Finalists decided in the Under 25's and Over 55's Comps

Under 25's

In the first semi final at Maddocks Lucas Benbow (Bayley) found reigning champion Ben Godding (Bayley) in good form. Ben played some solid match snooker as he took the first frame 54-16. An excellent 23 break helped seal his passage into the final with a 60-8 frame win to take the match 2-0.

On the other table Ross Bowater (Bayley) found former champ Lewis Round (Eden) in determined mood to regain his title. Lewis potted fantastically to give Ross little chance and a nice 27 break helped him take the opening frame 58-14. Two further breaks, both of 31, quickly took the second frame 82-6 and the match 2-0.

The final is set up nicely as defending champ Ben has won the trophy 3 times and Lewis has won twice before.

Over 55's

At Shifnal John Rawlins (Hadley) took on Dave France (Maddocks) in the first of the semi finals. After an even start it was Dave that got ahead and a nice 20 break helped take the frame 70-27. The second frame took a similar pattern to the opener and eventually Dave sealed his place in the final with a 66-24 win, aided by a 31 break.

On the other table a shock looked on the cards for long periods as defending champion Mick Reynolds (Dawley) faced Chris Smith (Bayley). In fact Mick is the only name on the trophy after winning in both of the 2 years since the tournament began, but it was Chris that dominated the early stages of this one.

Chris potted well to take the first frame 62-20 and began equally well in frame 2. Mick was looking out of sorts and in real danger of relinquishing his title, but he dug in and ground his way back into the match. Out of nowhere he knocked in a 22 break and managed to level the match, winning 71-43.

The decider was a real tight struggle but a nice 21 break gave Mick the upper hand for the first time. Chris hit back with some great long pots but, after a titanic near 3 hour battle, it was Mick that clinched the frame 67-38 and allow him to take his place in the final next month.

Both finals take place at Shifnal on Tuesday 6th March with the usual 7.30pm start
