GREAT NIGHT OF POTTING, DRAMA AND SPORTSMANSHIP AT DIVISIONAL INDIVIDUALS In Division One defending champion Michael Mancini was in no mood to give up his title easily. In the Last 16 a 33 break helped him to beat Keith Price 60-4, and the 4 was from a foul! In the quarter final another 23 break saw him past Ben Godding 67-5 to see him into a semi final meeting with Aaron Sparkes, who was also potting well in beating Dave France 51-3 in his quarter final. The semi final was a much closer affair, going to the final black. Aaron attempted a double to the centre pocket, catching the knuckle and sending the black towards the green pocket. Michael jawed the black and it fell about 6 inches shy of the yellow pocket, leaving Aaron to sink it to end Michael's reign and clinch his deserved place in this year's final. In the other half Ade Henry potted well to defeat Ade Smith 63-11 including a nice 22 before another solid display saw him past John Rawlins 66-25 to book a semi final berth against John Fallows. John started the night with a 28 break in a quick fire battle with Chris Morgan-Adams which saw him win 59-16. In his quarter final Craig Baugh began well only to see John knock in a lovely 39 and seal his semi final spot 69-21. It was John who continued his fine form making a 29 break to seal his place in the final against Shifnal B team mate Aaron with a 61-27 victory over Ade. Results: Last 16: Michael Mancini (33) 60-4 Keith Price; Ben Godding 44-38 Craig Reynolds; Dave France 63-36 Kelvin McLeod; Aaron Sparkes W/O Dan Morris; Craig Baugh W/O Ian Eldridge; John Fallows (28) 59-16 Chris Morgan-Adams; John Rawlins W/O Tom Mulholland; Ade Henry (22) 63-11 Ade Smith. Semi Finals: M Mancini 44-55 A Sparkes; J Fallows (29) 61-27 A Henry DIVISION TWO: In his first season back after a number of years, Alan McDonald is really proving a dark horse and a player not to be taken lightly and he took his league form into the singles. A nice 25 break saw him past James Steele 57-22 before another strong performance in the quarter final against Rich Benting 69-39 took him into the semi finals. Another new player is Tomass Gailums making his debut in the league this term. Tomass's early form has already earned him a call up to the inter town squads and he began by beating the much fancied Roy Leneveu 45-33. A 63-32 victory saw him past Barry Roden and to a semi final meeting against Alan. With the scores just 18-10, Alan was taken ill and looked set to forfeit. Tomass quickly offered Alan a break of 15-20 minutes to see if he felt better, remarkable sportsmanship. After a short break Alan returned, still a little unwell but wishing to continue nevertheless. A tight encounter continued until Tomass went 18 in front with 18 remaining. Alan kept his composure and cleared to force a re-spotted black. After a few nervous safety exchanges it was Tomass that clinched his place in the final 56-49. In the bottom half James Beckett beat Tony Morgan 56-30 before overcoming the experienced Andy O'Brien 59-29 to seal a semi final place where he would face Dean Harris. Dean began with a fine 57-20 win over Ron Broad before defeating Dave Downward 52-29 to clinch his semi final place. The semi final encounter was another tense affair and could have gone either way. In fact it was probably fitting that it also went to a re-spot, with James edging it 52-45.
