CONSOLATION
CUP SEMI FINALS In the first semi final second division
Maddocks F took on first division Shifnal E. First frame of
the night saw Maddocks F captain Neil Pearson take on Shifnal
E's Sean Cross which inevitably turned into a cagey affair.
Sean was unlucky with several in offs and with Neil potting
well it was the Maddocks player who went into a commanding
lead but Sean took the final 18 points on offer to reduce the
deficit to 27. With the Maddocks boys already receiving a 185
point start with the handicap this was just the start the
captain had wished for. Next up was Shaun Lane for the Shifnal
side who took the early lead in frame 2 but rolling back the
years was veteran John Archer for Maddocks who put in a fine
display with his new cue to take the game 63-58 and extend the
teams advantage to 217, surely an uphill task now for the
division 1 side. Shifnal captain Chris Griffiths was all too
aware of his teams predicament and put in a solid display of
snooker to go into a 40 point lead against Geoff Tudor with
just the colours remaining and with both players sharing the
final 6 balls Chris pulled 38 back for his side. .The fourth
frame had to be a decisive win for the division 1 Shifnal team
if they were to have any chance in this match but when the
major colours all went safe after the first few safety
exchanges it was always going to be tough for Chris Gifford to
get any kind of advantage. In the end Mick Pearson held his
own for the Maddocks side and lost by just 12 points giving
his side an unbeatable 167 point advantage going into the
final frame. Kirk Stevenson and Lee Cross played out the final
frame in what was an entertaining match played in good spirit.
Good luck to the Maddocks boys in the final. FULL SCORES: Neil
Pearson 77 Sean Cross 50 John Archer 63 Shaun Lane 58 Geoff
Tudor 33 Chris Griffiths 71 Mick Pearson 49 Chris Gifford 61
Kirk Stevenson 37 Lee Cross 38 (Report by Andy Kendrick)
Shifnal hosted the second semi final between Maddocks D and
Dawley B with Dawley defending a narrow 40 point advantage at
the start. The first frame was a tight affair with neither
player able to really get going. In the end it was Dawley's
Liam Goodman that snatched it 52-45 over Rich Parker to extend
his side's lead to 47. The next frame was no different and
produced almost exactly the same outcome as John Davies edged
past Graham Arnold 59-51, Dawley now 55 ahead. The third frame
was another battle but it was Maddocks' Maj Ilyas that kept
awake the longest to beat Barry Roden 76-41 and take the first
frame for the Oakengates outfit, closing the gap to 20. In the
fourth frame Luke Fletcher got in first for Dawley but once
James O'Hara got in he never looked back and he finished with
a nice 22 clearance to win 88-36 putting Maddocks in front for
the first time by 32. Anchor man Roy Lowe rolled back the
years with some excellent potting and never gave Andy Garbett
anything to go at, eventually winning the frame 56-19 to see
Maddocks through to the final by 69 points. Well played to all
and thanks to everyone that came along to give their support
on the night.
