TEAM
KO SEMI FINALS The first semi final saw Eden G take on Bayley
D at Shifnal. Frame 1 - Steve Powell (Eden) v Ade Smith
(Bayley) Steve started the match in confident fashion quickly
opening up a 20 plus lead and threatening to overwhelm his
opponent by stretching the lead to 30 points. Ade however then
came back into the match but not enough to close the gap
completely. Steve looked to be well in control when he
unfortunately went in off the pink giving Ade the chance to
clear pink and black to finally lose the frame by 61 points to
52 points. Frame 2 – Craig Reynolds (Eden) v Dave Dudley
(Bayley) Dave went off to a flier potting everything in sight
to open up a 28 points to nil lead with Craig struggling to
get to grips with the table. Dave then missed a relatively
simple blue giving Craig the chance to reduce the deficit.
Dave missed yet another chance on the blue and Craig punished
him by making some small breaks to forge into the lead by 60
points to 30 points. Craig eventually winning the frame by 70
points to 48 points. Frame 3 – Graham Copson (Eden) v Ryan
Dudley (Bayley) Yet another frame where the game swung way
then another with Graham settling in very quickly and going 30
points in front. Ryan wasn’t firing at all and Graham took
full advantage with some good potting and good safety play.
Ryan then found his potting boots and put together a nice 28
break ( should have been at least 33 having missed an easy
blue!) to trail by only 2 points. However Graham got his act
together in time by taking the last 3 colours to take the
frame by the score of 62 points to 42 points Frame 4 – Roy
Lenevue (Eden) v Ben Godding (Bayley) Another finely contested
frame with both players potting well but also spurning some
very good chances at the same time. Both players would pot a
good red before hanging the attempted colour over the pocket.
Roy took control of the frame in the final colours winning the
frame by 54 points to 36 points Frame 5 – Rich Jones (Eden)
v Chris Morgan Adams (Bayley) At this stage of the contest
Eden were 39 points ahead allowing for the Bayley handicap
difference of 30 points. Chris started with a rasping first
red but was unable to take the early initiative in the frame
as Rich was picking off the odd red and colour to keep his
nose in front. The real turning point was when Chris potted a
red and broke the bunch of reds to perfectly land on the pink
with a sizeable break at his mercy, he failed to pot the pink.
Rich then took advantage and stretched his lead and playing
some decent safety went on to win the frame by the score of 60
points to 43 points. This ultimately gave the final result as
Eden 307 points Bayley 251 points Congratulations to the Eden
G team on reaching the Final of the Team Knockout with a well
deserved win over the defending champions Bayley D Thanks to
Shifnal War Memorial Club for the use of the table and to the
people who turned up to support both teams. (Report by Willie
Brown) In the second semi final it was two division 1 sides
Shifnal B and Hadley B who locked horns at the Bayley club
with the Hadley side receiving a 70 point start from the
handicapper. In the first frame Aaron McCann and Aaron Sparkes
shares the spoils in a close encounter ending with the Shifnal
Aaron winning by 14 points. Frame 2 was always going to be a
pivotal point in the match as Mat 'maximum' Davies took on
Laki Badhan. In the end it was the form man Mat who ran out a
convincing winner taking the frame 118-15 and putting his team
ahead in the match. Next up Phil Dix and John Fallows locked
horns and both players potted well with only 14 in it with the
green on the table. As we all know the colours can make a big
difference in these games and when John cleared up what could
have been an 11 point loss was a 39 point victory and putting
his side into an even stronger position. Hadley needed some
inspiration to get back into this game and Damien Currier was
the man on next to try and get his team going again. Lynsay
Knox had other ideas and held his own to see the frame out
with just 4 points the difference. Shifnal went into the final
frame 82 ahead and it was recent centurion Tommy Mullholland
tasked with getting them over line against Hadley captain Ken
Booty. Tom won the frame by 4 and it's the division1 table
toppers who go into the final. SCORES Aaron McCan 42 Aaron
