OVER 55'S SEMI FINALS:
First through to the inaugrial
Over 55's Final is Willie Brown who defeated Spencer Rowley
2-1 at the Bayley. Spencer looked favourite as he took the
first frame 68-24 with Willie struggling a little for form. As
the night wore on the match was always in the balance with
neither player able to stake a sizeable advantage, Willie
eventually drawing level taking the second frame on the black
51-37. The deciding frame followed the same pattern before
Willie clinched his place in the final again winning on the
black 65-51.
Rob Withington drew the short
straw as he reffed the second semi final between Noel Stones
and Mick Reynolds, which turned into a titanic battle lasting
over 3 hours!! It was Mick that took the advantage as he won
the first frame 69-43. However Noel dug deep and opened the
second frame with a fine 32 break. Not to be outdone Mick hit
back with a nice 31 of his own as the frame was once more in
the balance. In the end Noel held his nerve to sink a lovely
22 clearance under pressure to level the match winning 78-69.
After a short toilet break the match resumed and in a tense
final frame it was Mick that came out on top helped, by his
own admission, by a little good fortune winning 71-43 and
sealing his place in the Final alongside Willie.
Well played chaps and
congratulations to the finalists.
