Match report kindly sent in by
John Rawlins.
Hadley A entertained eden A this
week in which promised to be an entertaining match.
The opening frame saw ian "
ernie " eldridge take on tom maxfield. Ian struggled to
get going , and missed a simple cut in on the black with the
rest with the reds split quite nicely. This allowed tom to
step in and take a nice 31 break...some good potting and
safety from both players followed , but the deficit was a
little too much to claw back against one of the leagues
finest players..tom winning 67 36.
Frame 2 saw 2 more exciting
players in action as steve clayton entertained mike mancini.
Steve also struggled with his potting, missing one or two
balls that he normally would knock in without hesitating,
but you cant give an up and coming talent like mike those
chances, mike going on to win the frame 62 25.
The 3rd frame of the evening saw
a rejuvinated alan turner take on another up and coming
talent lewis round. It was alan who took an early lead, only
to see lewis get back into the game with a couple of
wonderful pots, however the potting did not last as he
seemed to struggle after that, and alan took full advantage
taking the frame 61 50 with himself playing some fine
snooker..
Frame 4 saw a battle of the old
wellington billiard hall stalwarts, as home captain john
rawlins faced chris " lalli " morris. John went
off into an early lead, with a couple of good pots, lalli
really didnt bring his A game with him tonight, as he
struggled to string 2 balls together. John going on to win
57 16.
So , with the match all square
at 2 . 2. It was left to steve minshall to take on dan
" the turtle " morris. ( ask mike mancini about
the nickname....was soooo funny ! ) dan shot off into
a 31point lead, with some astounding long pots, leaving
steve absolutely nothing along the way when he missed.
However steve managed to play some great safety shots,
including one where he tucked the white right up perfectly
behind the green ball, only to see a red come down the table
and knock the black in, that was so unlucky, dan put him
back in to play and somehow steve managed to get out of the
situation, that seemed to be the turning point for the home
player, as he dragged his way back from the brink of defeat
taking an excellent pink along the rail, and sending the
white down the table to finish perfect on the black....thus
going on to win the frame 63 57. A great game boys,
well done !!! Thanks to the eden boys for an
entertaining night, and good luck for the rest of the
season. HADLEY A 3 v EDEN A 2
