CONSOLATION
CUP QUARTER FINALS: First up was second division Maddocks F
who hosted high flying first division Hadley A defending a 200
point advantage. Paul Lloyd out scored Geoff Tudor 97-22 in
the opener to reduce the deficit to 125. Kirk Stevenson scored
well but couldn't prevent Steve Clayton from further closing
the gap to 87, Steve winning 82-44. The third frame was
tighter but in the end visiting skipper John Rawlins edged out
Mick Pearson 57-35, Maddocks lead now 65. In the next frame
John Archer found Darren Weston in good form as the Hadley man
won 81-20 to leave the home side just 4 points ahead going
into the final frame. However the comeback wasn't to be as
home skipper Neil Pearson followed on from last week's
excellent break to hold off the experienced Alan Turner, Neil
winning 65-20 to seal the match for Maddocks by 49. Next up
was another Maddocks side, as the D team visited Bayley Z,
with the home side starting 120 ahead. Graham Arnold edged out
Bayley's Rich Benting 67-30 in the first and Roy Lowe
continued the fightback as he beat Steve Dawes 56-18 to
further reduce the deficit to 55. The third frame was a really
close affair but in the end Allen Francis couldn't stop Maj
Ilyas nicking it 44-31, Bayley still ahead by 42. In the
fourth frame James O'Hara managed to beat Tony Morgan 68-20 to
put the first division side in front for the first time by a
slight 6 points. It was a battle of the skippers in the last
frame but returning Michael Wainwright did enough to seal the
win for The visitors as he beat Iain Atkinson 55-36, Maddocks
through by 25. All of the consolation cup quarter finals were
1st v 2nd division affairs and the next was Shifnal E v 2nd
Club A. The home side were looking to overturn a 170 deficit
and Shaun Lane began by beating Ian Ferriday 77-35. Chris
Griffiths continued the good start as he defeated Keith Mears
70-41 to leave the visitors 99 ahead. It was the Cross
brothers next for Shifnal as first Lee beat Nick Holmes 76-24
then Sean beat Mike Thompson 64-20 to reduce the advantage to
a mere 3 points at the start of frame 5. The final frame was a
close contest but Shifnal's Chris Gifford did enough to hold
off Lloyd Giles 59-39 and put his side into the semis by just
17 points. The last QF saw Dawley B entertain Maddocks C with
the home side defending a 60 point lead. In the opener it was
the visitors James Hayward who took the frame winning 61-44
against John Davies, reducing the start to 43. Ash Kent
continued the bright start for Maddocks beating Liam Goodman
79-39 to reduce the arrears to just 3. Luke Fletcher stopped
the rot for Dawley beating Ian Cleary 63-37 to restore the
lead to 29 but still anyone's game. Home skipper Barry Roden
further extended the advantage to 61 by beating Graham Hoof
73-41. Andy Garbett held his nerve in the last to see Dawley
through as he beat Joe Oliver 55-16 to win by 100. TEAM KO
QUARTER FINALS: At Shifnal top seeds Shifnal B took on Newport
B who held a 120 advantage at the start. Matt Davies had a 68
break on his way to defeating the unfortunate Austin R 121-16
to reduce the deficit to just 15. Tom Mulholland continued the
good start as he beat Colin Farge 82-41 to put the hosts ahead
by 26. Aaron Sparkes played well to beat Steve Speeke 105-23
before John Fallows out scored Wayne Weeks 92-23 to put
Shifnal 177 up going into the last. Linsay Knox edged past Les
Stirling 56-24 to seal a 209 point victory. Shifnal F
travelled to first division Hadley B with a 100 head start. In
a very close first frame N Ward edged past Gareth Lloyd 58-42
to reduce that lead to 84. Laki Badhan beat Spencer Rowley
75-27 in the next to further reduce the deficit to 36. The
third frame proved to be the closest of the whole round as the
home side's Phil Dix squeezed past Willie Brown by a solitary
point 62-61. Home skipper Ken Booty played well in the fourth
frame to beat Terry Lloyd 105-15 putting Hadley ahead for the
first time by 55. Another close frame ensued but Aaron McCann
held his nerve to beat Chris Petford 58-53 to seal a win by
60. High flying top flight side Maddocks A played host to 2nd
division leaders Eden G in what always looked a mouth watering
tie. Visiting skipper Graham Copson went on first looking to
defend their 120 advantage. He did better than that by
defeating Phil Davies to extend the lead to 141, winning
80-59. Richie Jones continued his skippers good start by
beating Dave France 54-30, the lead now 165. The third frame
was closer but Shaun Harris couldn't stop the momentum as he
was edged out 48-59 by Steve Powell. Craig Reynolds took the
fourth frame for Eden beating Leigh France 74-45 and putting
his side into a 205 point lead. Ian Duffy had a good go but
his 85-38 victory over Roy Leneveu was not enough, Eden going
through by 158. The final match of the QF was 2nd in the first
division Dawley A v 4th in the second division Bayley D, with
the visitors beginning with a start of 170. Sean Nolan started
to reduce the arrears beating Dave Dudley 65-38, Bayley now
143 to the good. However Ben Godding again showed good form to
defeat Keith Price 63-52 to extend the visitors lead to 154.
Another of the Bayley young guns Ryan Dudley held his nerve to
only be edged out by the experienced Adam Moore 88-52, the
lead now 118. Dawley's Ade Henry played very well to beat Jim
Lewis 104-22 and give his skipper every chance in the last
with the lead now reduced to 36. With just pink and black on
the table Mark Jones required just one snooker as he was 22
ahead in the frame, 14 behind in the match. Unfortunately he
knocked the pink in when trying to lay a snooker thus beating
Chris Morgan-Adams 66-38 but losing the match by just 8
points.
