Division
Two.
Shifnal
D v Bayley Z.
A very tightly fought game
here. Jimmy Langley and tugboat kicked it off. It was a
battle. Cracking reds, poor misses,in offs and fouls all over.
Went to the black and after potting blue n pink,Jimmy then
went for a thin cut on black and went in off. Guinness please.
Next up Karl Wilson and James Steel squared up. Another nip
and tuck frame that twoed and frowed with Karl finally
flicking the black in the corner bag, when he went for the
middle, hilarious and comical, unless you were James. So third
up is Geoff French and Tony Morgan. Some great potting and
tactical play in this one too. It went on a bit and there was
rumoured to be a couple of the lads asleep at one stage ha ha.
Anyway Tony took the frame on the pink. Forth game wasn\'t a
classic with both Mokesh and Alan Francis making hard work of
it. Mo nicked it. So to the deciding frame between Dean Harris
and Iain Atkinson. Don\'t want to be too cruel so I\'ll just
say Dean played well and Iain had an off day. On a closing
note, the bar takings were triple the usual Wednesday. Thanks
Zed team, come back soon. Great set o lads.
After finally registering their
first league win the Cue team from the Bayley travelled to
Shifnal to take on the high flying F side. Matches between
these teams are always closely fought encounters and this
one proved to be no different. In the first frame it was the
visitors Andy Elliott who did enough with some assured
potting to edge out Shifnal's Tony Lloyd 60-31. The second
frame was an absolute cracker for the neutral. Gareth Lloyd
opened up a fifty point lead with a lovely 39 break and
looked to be levelling the match in quickfire fashion.
However Bayley's Danny Weaver had different ideas as he
knocked in a fine 30 break himself and clawed back to within
13 points with just pink and black left. Gareth left the
pink in baulk with the black on its spot but Danny smashed
it in almost too well really, as the cue ball landed on the
top cushion right behind the black. Not to be deterred he
chalked his cue before firing the black into the middle
pocket for a re-spot. Neither player deserved to lose but
after a short safety exchange Gareth sent the
black up into baulk but cruelly the cue ball travelled into
the black pocket, leaving Danny the victor 79-72. In the
third frame Spencer Rowley took the lead early on but Rob
Cook came back with the help of the run of the balls giving
him three free balls and it was Rob who sealed the win for
Bayley 60-39. In the next frame it was Noel Hitch who got in
first but missed a black off its spot letting Chris Petford
in with a 16 break to take the initiative. Noel potted well
to edge in front but Chris wouldn't go away and as the frame
drew to a close it was the Shifnal man who sank the pink to
come out on top 55-39 and get a point on the board. The last
frame of the night was very tight for long periods with
Willie Brown showing his experience, but Spencer Clarke is
in fine form this term losing only one frame in all
competitions to date. in the end he dug deep to take the
frame 62-34 and seal a fine 4-1 win for the Bayley side.
Despite the result on another night the score could easily
have been different.
