Dawley
A travelled to Maddocks F looking to overturn a 200 point
handicap. Ade Henry was first up taking his frame 77-22
against Geoff Tudor to reduce the arrears to 145. Keith Price
edged past Kirk Stevenson 72-56, the deficit now 129. The next
two frames saw impressive wins for both Pete Nolan 84-14 and
Adam Moore 78-15 against Anthony Stevenson and John Archer
respectively. At the start of frame 5 Dawley were ahead by 4
points so everything was still to play for but the experienced
Mick Reynolds held his nerve to defeat Neil Pearson 69-31 to
seal the win by 42 points.
First
division Broseley A hosted undefeated second division outfit
Bayley D and needed a good start if they were to overhaul
Bayley's 100 point advantage. Eddie Mullard did just that in
beating Ryan Dudley 75-18, the deficit now just 43. However
Ian Postins couldn't quite follow suit as Chris Morgan-Adams
hit back 70-31 to increase Bayley's lead to 82. This was
proving a topsy-turvy affair as Broseley's Mark Worsdell again
reduced the deficit to 45 in defeating Brian Aberdeen 56-19.
The pattern continued as the in form young gun Ben Godding
extended Bayley's advantage once more, beating Terry Askew
72-24, the lead now 93 going into the final frame. This proved
too much although Andy Carson edged past Jim Lewis 50-34, it
wasn't enough and Bayley went through by 77.
Another
2nd v 1st division clash was Shifnal D against Maddocks C with
the hosts starting with a 130 advantage. It was the visitors
Richie Heighway who took the first frame 78-47 against Jimmy
Langley, reducing the deficit to 99. James Hayward edged out
Shifnal's Geoff French 48-41 further reducing it to 92. Ian
Cleary was next up for Maddocks and he defeated Mokesh Mehmi
60-39. With their lead now 81 Mark Hebden dug in and squeezed
past Ash Kent again on the black 42-35 to extend the advantage
to 88. In the final frame Shifnal's Dean Harris held firm to
win 74-28 against J Fellows to seal the match by 134 points.
Shifnal
E faced a 170 point handicap as they travelled to Bayley Cue.
Chris Lawson won the first frame against Danny Weaver 62-59
but only took 3 points off. Visiting captain Chris Griffiths
began potting everything and looked to be running away with
his frame, however the experienced Rob Cook kept his nerve and
cleared the last few colours. Chris winning 62-31 and the home
sides lead now 136. The next frame was a cracker with Sean
Cross laying snooker after snooker but in form Spencer Clarke
held firm to win 59-53 and extend the lead to 142. Lee Newton
looked out of sorts in the early part of frame 4 in his first
frame for 6 months with Sam Drake taking the advantage. Lee
shook off the rust and eventually found his potting form to
complete a fine 55-42 victory. With Bayley now in a seemingly
unassailable 155 point lead noel Hitch and Shaun Lane played
out the final frame. Shaun potted the final pink and black to
win 61-42 leaving Bayley the victors by 136.
Current
league champions Maddocks A visited Bayley Z looking to avenge
last seasons defeat at the same stage. Despite facing a
deficit of 210 there was to be no repeat as Phil Davies beat
Rich Benting 87-9, Leigh France won 81-8 against Paul Rhodes
and Shaun Harris defeated Tony Morgan 79-16 to put Maddocks 4
points to the good. Allen Francis fought well against Dave
France but Dave edged it 57-36 to give the visitors a 25 point
advantage for the last frame. Ian Duffy potted well to clinch
victory 76-8 over Iain Atkinson and seal a 93 point match win.
The
first all 1st division tie saw Hadley A entertain Bayley E
with the visitors starting out with a 40 point cushion. Paul
Lloyd looked to make inroads but could only reduce the lead to
29 in beating Andy O'Brien 66-55. Steve Hoof hit back for
Bayley defeating John Rawlins 54-38 extending the advantage to
45. In the third frame a fine 24 break helped Ali Jones defeat
Steve Clayton 106-25 to increase the lead to 126 points.
Hadley took the last two frames but the damage was done as
neither Steve Minshall's 69-44 win over Dave Beyer, nor Darren
Weston's 45-31 win against Dave France were enough. Bayley
running out winners by 87.
Back
to the battle of the divisions as Dawley B hosted current
league one leaders Shinal B, starting with a 160 point head
start. Matt Davies got the ball rolling for Shifnal as he cut
the deficit to 62 beating John Davies 111-13. John Fallows
beat Rob Gajewski 75-32 leaving Dawley ahead by just 19. Aaron
Sparkes proved too strong for Liam Goodman, winning 92-32 to
put Shifnal ahead by 41. The returning Angus Way continued the
visitors fine form edging past Barry Roden 51-22 to extend the
lead to 70 going into the final frame. It was always a big ask
and Andy Garbett just lost out to Linsay Knox 64-35 leaving
Shifnal the victors by 99.

just 57. However Eden's Steve Powell stopped the rot winning
52-41 against Chris Smith leaving Craig Reynolds to defend a
68 point lead in the last frame. In the end Craig ran out a
55-21 winner over Dan Oliver sending Eden through to round two
by 102 points.
Maddocks
E travelled to Newport B in the battle of two promoted sides
with the home team holding a slender 30 point start. The first
frame was a tight affair with Newport's Colin Farge squeezing
past Mark Wall 57-54. Andy Jones hit straight back for the
visitors beating Mick Beech 71-44 leaving Newport still ahead
but only by 6 after 2 frames. Wayne Weeks defeated Steve
Downes 64-44 to extend Newport's lead to 26 so still anyone's
game to win. Maddocks again hit back through Simon Yeates
winning 55-37 over Steve Speeke, the lead cut this time to
just 8 points. It was the experienced Les Stirling who came
out on top in the decider 69-35 over Nick Pearce putting
Newport through by 42.
In
the closest tie of the round Maddocks D faced Hadley B
beginning with a slight 20 point advantage. James O'Hara began
strongly for the home side beating Ken Booty 50-21 to extend
that advantage to 49. The experienced Roy Lowe was just edged
out by Laki Badhan 64-61 but Maddocks still held a 46 lead.

that lead to just 13 points as he beat Maj Ilyas 68-42. In the
final frame Hadley's Phil Dix held his nerve to defeat Ken
Davies 62-40 to give the visitors the win by a slender 9
points.
New
to the league Bayley Lads hosted a strong Shifnal F side and
only having a 70 point advantage meant it was always going to
be an uphill struggle. Despite this they all rolled up their
sleeves and played with a smile, a lesson to all of how
snooker is meant to be played. Gareth Lloyd beat Josh Devey
96-17, Spencer Rowley out pointed Ron Broad 55-30, Willie
Brown defeated Mike Cooper 68-28, Rob Wright beat Will O'Hara
65-16 and Chris Petford edged past Ross Bowater 64-37. Shifnal
going through by a 150 point margin.
Newly
promoted Eden A hosted Anstice B (Dawley) looking to continue
their impressive early season form, despite conceding a 50
point start. Michael Mancini showed why he has only dropped
one frame in all competitions to date, taking the first frame
75-29 over Frank Williams cutting the deficit to just 4. Noel
Stones then rolled back the years to beat Chris Morris 119-16
and restored the visitors lead to an impressive 107 points.
Lewis Round looked to be on his way to at least halving this
deficit until a lovely 45 clearance from Nigel Wallcroft
snatched the frame 55-45, the lead further extended to 117.
Gurd Singh dug in and took the next frame 72-26 against Steve
Smallwood reducing the arrears to 71. Eden's Dan Morris won
the last frame 74-30 over Billy Watson but it wasn't quite
enough as Anstice march on winning by 27 overall.

extended his unbeaten start to the season winning 73-11 over
Keith Mears to put his side 82 in front. Nick Holmes edged out
the home sides A Goulding 70-52 to reduce Allscott's lead to
64. Mike Thompson continued 2nd Club's fight back taking the
third frame 64-25 against Nick Gwynne reducing the deficit to
25. When Lloyd Giles beat Dan Brentnall 55-34 it meant there
was just a 4 point gap in Allscott's favour and all to play
for. In the final frame Kev Waland held his nerve to squeeze
past Ian Ferriday 59-45 to seal Allscott's passage to round
two by just 18 points.
After
their bye in the first round Eden Elite make up the sides
through to round two. The draws for both main and consolation
cups will be made at Shifnal on Weds 21st
