Division

Last years league winners
maddocks A entertained hadley A at home tonight,
The first frame went to the
visitors with steve clayton taking on ian skelton. A
cracking frame of snooker from both players, which went to
the last couple of balls, and could have gone either way, but
it was steve who held his nerve well to come out on top with
a 60- 47 victory.
Frame 2 also went the way of the
visitors with in form darren weston pulling out all the
stops, winning 76 - 2 against a very unlucky phil davies,
knocking in an early run of 26 along the way.
The 3rd frame went the way of
stalwart dave france, showing no mercy against the luckless
john rawlins, with a score 78 - 26, finishing off the
frame taking all the colours with a sweet little 25 break.
Frame number four was a
wonderful battle between two fine players, leigh france and
ian " ernie " eldridge.
Leigh took an early 30 point
lead, only to watch ernie claw his way back into the frame
with some incredible potting. It was nip and tuck all the
way down to the final black ball. Ian missed a relatively
easy cut by his standards, but managed not to leave a pot on
for leigh. Leigh then played a wonderful safety shot,
leaving the cue ball tight on the bottom cush. This would
have probably won him the frame against most players, but
ian had other ideas as he slammed the black into the bottom
sack without touching the sides.
Frame 5 was the game everyone
wanted to see between mr reliable shaun harris, and ex pro
paul lloyd. The frame started in fine style, with some
excellent potting and safety from both players. The first
real opportunity fell to paul , he was sitting on a break of
33, when he slightly lost position by milimetres on his next
red, he decided to go for a red into the middle bag, which
meant stretching over the black ball which was hanging over
the corner pocket, he adjusted his shirt accordingly to play
the shot, and eagle eyed ref dave france was quick to spot
the corner of his shirt scrape the black ball. A correct
decision, and a real shame for paul, as im sure he would
have knocked in a significant break from that position.
Shaun rallied back well to get
back into the frame, when paul put him in a virtually
impossible snooker, although shaun got close to hitting it a
couple of times, the miss was called and he was put back in
to play. Paul then opened up a bit of a lead, leaving
shaun requiring 3 snookers, he managed to get the one
which put paul in all sorts of bother, after alot of
studying, the whole room seemed to stop and watch how he
would cope.. but paul being paul, played a world class shot,
spinning off 4 cushions, glancing the yellow and leaving it
safe, shaun had another couple of attempts, but paul got in
to clinch the high scoring frame 89 - 57. Credit to both
players for a truly wonderful frame of snooker. Final score
4 - 1 to the hadley boys.
Division
Two.
A bit off a one-sided match but
played in a great spirit the Bayley Lads came with a smile
and left still smiling. Their only success came in a tense
low scoring 4th frame which was won on the black after both
Steve Smallwood and Ross Bowater had the last ball at their
mercy before Ross clinched the frame with a great pot 32-31.
Frank Willams Nigel Wallcroft Noel Stones ana Billy Watson
scored heavily to win the other 4 frames for the Anstice B
team now playing from Dawley Social Club who have made the
Madeley team very welcome.
