Division
one.
Hadley A entertained Shifnal B, and could only field four players
due to two of the team dropping out recently. However, the match was played
with the away team already informed of our position. Alan Turner had a
reasonable frame against Aaron Sparkes, but Aaron was too strong in the end.
Mick Hughes put up a good show against the formidible Matt Davies, but Matt
prevailed to take Shifnal, two nil ahead. Steve Clayton than drew Angus Way,
and this was a really good frame to watch, with both players putting in a great
performance. Steve won this one to give us our only point of the evening. Andy
Kendrick then stepped up to play John Fallows, and after a bit of nip and tuck
from both players, John knocked in a sixty-six break. End of match, but played
in the best of spirits. Hadley A will not have a team next season, due to old
age and such things, but we have all enjoyed the many years we have played in
the league.
Division two.
The final game of the first half of the season produced an
exciting local derby between two Bayley sides who were 2 divisions apart last
season. The unbeaten Andy O'Brien continued his impressive run to take the
first frame for the 'visitors' including a fine break of 24 along the way. Dave
Beyer opened his own account to extend the E sides lead by taking a tight and
closely fought second frame. However the Cue teams Chris Durham stopped the rot
in the next to halve the deficit. The fourth frame looked at one stage to be
heading for a re-rack before Lee Newton held his nerve to draw the sides level
and force a final frame decider between the two captains. Both players
exchanged some decent safety in another tight affair but in the end it was Noel
Hitch that managed to take it to complete a remarkable comeback and complete
only the second win this term to date. Finally with only the cup games next
week we would like to everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from
the Bayley Cue lads.
