TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 2013/14

Division One.

Another night and another player enlisted into the ranks for the Dawley side !! High scoring first two frames saw Dawley take a 2-0 lead as Callum Wraight beat John Banks in a close frame that saw Callum take the frame on the colours 89-60. An even closer second frame saw Sean Nolan beat Simon McLeod on a re-spotted black, frame score 59-52. Frame three had them falling asleep in the aisles as Mark Jones played Mick Brezwyn. A drab frame with both players struggling badly. With Mick 16 points in front with the last four colours remaining Mark pressed the memory recall button and cleared the lot to pinch victory from the jaws of defeat. That gave Dawley the match win but up next was Pete Nolan v Tom Maxfield. After two swift visits Tom was well clear after knocks of 36 and 32. Game over, frame score 71-2. Final frame: Yet another \'on the night signing\' for Dawley as Paddy McDowell cleaned 15 years of dust of his cue to make up the numbers for Dawley. And it told as Tony Watkins played well to give Broseley another point on the board with a frame score 60 to 8. Match score Dawley 3, Broseley 2.

Division Two.

With the bottom half of the 2nd division getting tighter by the second, only 3 frames separated 6th placed Newport and their hosts, bottom of the table Bayley. It was the visitors Craig Davies who took the first frame 66-26 v the unfortunate Rob Cook, who took a big chunk out of his tip minutes before the match. When Wayne Weeks clinched the next frame 59-33 against Chris Durham it looked very good for the Newport side. However they hadn\'t reckoned on the Cue teams recent form as they had turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 win in both of their last 2 league games. Firstly Steve Weatherall pulled a frame back winning 47-7 v Allan Davies. Lee Newton continued the fightback 70-31 v Steve Speake levelling the match. A tense final frame ensued and it was home skipper Noel Hitch who came out on top 57-32 v Les Stirling to continue the remarkable run for at least another week.
