Bayley
Q vs Dawley B. \"You cannot teach an old dog new
tricks\" which was initially demonstrated in the 1st
frame between Rob Cook and Wally Harper. The frame remained
finely balanced throughout with neither player managing to
make much headway in a tactical contest, which left Rob
potting the black to force a repsot. Wally won the coin toss,
putting Rob to play first and when the chance presented itself
Wally utilised all his experience to calmly pot the pressure
black required. Frame 2 saw Steve Weatherall vs Billy
Fletcher, and with Billy not able to gain a foothold, Steve
lapped up the chances to take the frame and level the match at
1-1. Frame 3 saw the young pup (OK, but not in the Juniors age
bracket) Lee Newton take on Doug Morrey. Lee whose snooker
seemed a little out of sorts, did not have any answers to the
pedigree wealth of experience that Doug has amassed. No
lessons were required by Doug as he found a way (however many
cushions needed) to get out of each snooker he found himself
in, continuing on to put Dawley back in the lead. Frame 4,
with Rich Tranter vs Liam Goodman, and after last weeks loss
on the black you could see Rich was out to prove a point.
However an even contest resulted up until the last red, where
Rich played a clever snooker which produced consecutive fouls
and free balls. Make no bones about it, this was the turning
point to which it played out in Rich\'s favour to level the
scores at 2-2. Frame 5, match decider between Noel Hitch and
Geoff Davies, with Geoff off and running like the proverbial
greyhound, showing a classy display of potting ability. Geoff
had opened up a 42 point lead, with Noel requiring 4 snookers
but showing no signs of calling it a day. Some errors from
Geoff along with well played snookers from Noel brought him
back into the match. Noel had potted a well taken blue, and
looked to have taken it to the black as pink went in only for
the white to continue round the table and drop in the middle
pocket. Geoff finished it off with nice pot on the pink, using
up the dogs life of luck, but earning the visitors Dawley B a
well deserved win 3-2 over Bayley Q.
