Hadley
A versus Maddocks A.
Maddocks
A probably should have won a first divison title by now, don't
know why not! But this week they visited Hadley A, who have
really had a good season to date. In Maddocks home game,
Hadley A had a great result winning 3-2, best result for many
a year against Maddocks!. In the return match at Hadley, the
opening match was between Andy Kendrick and Shaun Harris.
There was nothing between the players, until Andy played a
poor safety shot, and Shaun knocked in a 36 break So 1-0 to
Maddocks. Next frame saw our star player, John Williams taking
on the evergreen Mick Reynolds, (wish I could muster his
concentration) and after a really tough match, John, who was
always playing catch up, did the business, and won the frame.
Next up was our top class reserve, Steve Clayton, who
played Ian Skelton. Steve started a little slowly against Ian,
and although Ian had a 29 break, Steve levelled the scores.
Graham Darrall then took on Phil Davies with Graham starting
really well. However, Phil found his usual potting prowess,
and made a 36 break to level the match. In the last frame,
Alan Turner took on Dave France. This was a drawn out game,
with lots of good safety play. Alan manged to gain the
advantage in the match towards the colours, then did his bext
to give it away, finally winning on he black ball.
Shifnal
B versus Broseley.
In
a must win game for Shifnal B, and with broseley holding a
cushion at the top of the table, it couldnt have got of to a
worse start for Shifnal, with talisman Matt Davies suffering
only his second defeat of the season, but John Banks
thoroughly deserved his victory aided by a 35 break on the
way.The next frame was understandably nervy to start with, and
stayed nip and tuck throughout, but it was Aaron Sparkes who
cleared the colours up to pink to get Shifnal level.Third
frame saw Tom Maxfield in no mood to slip up, and with a 46
break along the way easily beat Linsay Knox.Frame four saw Lee
Barker, standing in for the unfortunate Mick Brezwyn who
suffered a leg fracture two days before, taking on John
Fallows. Lee quickly established a 40+ lead, aided by a 30
break, but john fought back to trail by some 15 points on the
colours. However, a crucial miss on the yellow from john
allowed Lee to take the colours he needed and give an ellated
Broseley the victory. In the last frame, Shifnal\'s
dissappointed captain Angus Way had to put frustration to one
side and take what may well be a crucial last frame. However,
after building up a 40+ lead a careless missed red allowed
Niel Caswell back in to the frame, and Niel played really well
to reduce the deficit to single figures, but it was Angus who
took brown, blue & pink to take the frame. Broseley now
have one hand firmly on the league title, and play 2nd
placed Anstice next week in what may well be a title decider,
while Shifnal are left with an outsiders chance at the title
if other results go there way.
Third
Division.
Bayley
Q vs 2nd Club B. \"You never miss the water till
the well runs dry\" but to start off with there
was certainly no drought when it came to impressive
snooker. Frame 1 saw Jimmy Langley vs Dave Lloyd, with
Jimmy opening up the early lead due to a torrent of
luck, plus a well taken 28 break. This did not deter
Dave as he continued to claw back the points, leaving
it about level going on to the colours. It all come
down to a final black ball with Jimmy producing an
accomplished pressure pot to win 57-51. Frame 2, Chris
Durham vs Dave Lloyd Jnr and this time it was the 2nd
Club man in full flow as an impressive potting display
opened up a 40 point lead, but Chris also fought back
before Dave took the colours require to win 57-42 and
level the match at 1-1. Frame 3 saw Noel Hitch take on
G.Owen, with Noel calling on his fountain of snooker
experience, he clinically picked off the pots along
with a sprinkling of snookers to give Garry little
chance to get a foothold in the frame, allowing Noel
to win 74-27. Frame 4, Lee Newton vs Patrick Kershaw
saw a frame that went back and forwards, but with some
solid constant potting it was Patrick who continued to
soak up the pressure to win 63-31 and level the match
at 2-2. With Steve Weatherall ready to play 5th
for the Bayley Q, the proverbial well run dry for the
2nd Club lads as they were unable to field a last
player. Although Steve in his home captain finale was
able to bow out with a rare 147 scoreline it was a
shame that an equally balanced match had to be decided
like this, with a 3-2 win going to the Bayley Q. Many
thanks to 2nd Club for a sporting match. Also cheers
to all Bayley Q players that have contributed this
season which has got us to where we are in the league
and the cup. So with my last proverb home report
completed it\'s time for me to sign off (so remember
\"He who laughs last, laughs longest\") All
the best for the season run in from Steve. |
