Bayley
Q vs Anstice D. Too many Cooks spoil the broth - but the
Bayley Q\'s Rob Cook had given advance warning that he could
not play due to coming down with the cold / flu. This had left
Captain Steve Weatherall selecting his only 5 available
players on the night for the visit of Anstice D. Frame 1 saw
Jimmy Langley vs Jon Calvert with the balls dictating a large
proportion of the frame due to bunching up down the 1 corner
of the table. Along with some bad luck for Jon, Jimmy took
more of the potting chances he required to win the first frame
57-30. Frame 2 had Chris Durham taking on Tom Gowers, with
neither player finding the early part of the frame easy going,
but eventually Chris found his potting stride to pull away to
wrap up the second frame. Frame 3 saw Steve Weatherall vs new
signing Chris Woods (the first outing on the night for one of
last years Division 3 winners). Chris made the early running
opening up a 20+ lead, tactical play followed with Steve
closing up the deficit going into the colours. Finally Steve
potted the pink needed to win 55-42 and claim Bayley Q\'s
first match win of the season. Frame 4 with Lee Newton
building an early lead over Joe Rixom, but Joe made a spirited
fight of it causing Lee a bit of a wobble, but Lee came out on
top to notch up another frame for the home side. Frame 5 saw
an outing on the night another of last years Division 3
winners in the the shape of Noel Hitch who was taking on Lee
Foster. Both players showed some of the best potting during
the night but a nice 23 break plus some astounding luck down
by the green pocket (a test was done to see if Noel had his
cue or Charlie Chaplins walking stick, such was the comedy
value) allowed Noel to complete a fine 5-0 win for the Bayley
Q. A bit more rub of the green and I am sure Anstice D will
cause teams alot more problems than their luck allowed them on
the night. Bayley Q vs Anstice D. Too many Cooks spoil the
