1 - 3 Bayley Q are winners of
the 2nd / 3rd Division Playoff match
Frame 1 saw K.Mears take on
R.Cook, with Keith taking some early pots to open up a 21
point advantage. But the pressure started to creep in to both
of the players games as Rob managed to close the gap. A nervy
exchange on the colours with Keith taking quality pots on the
blue and pink forced a black ball decider. A couple of shots
down the line found Kieth with an unfortunate in off to decide
the first frame in the Bayley Q's favour. Frame 2 saw
I.Ferriday vs J.Langley. A bit of a scappy frame started off,
before Ian found his potting form to open up a points
advantage, but some clever safety and some good potting from
Jimmy brought it down to yet another black ball game. Jimmy
potted an excellent doubled black to tie the scores at 47-47
to force a respotted black situation. Ian won the coin toss
and elected to put Jimmy in (saying double that 1 then).
However both players engaged in impressive safety shots before
Ian sent the black round the table and sweetly in to the
middle pocket to tie the match at 1-1. Frame 3 saw D.Walsh
take on L.Newton. Neither player created a major opening
during early safety exchanges while trying to judge the speed
of the table, but Lee settled in and continued his impressive
form from last weeks consolation cup final. With his potting
form found he complied breaks of 24 and 33 playing the best
snooker on the night and run out a clear 83-20 winner, to put
Bayley Q 2-1 up. Frame 4 saw N.Robinson vs N.Hitch with Neil
getting off to the early start in the points before Noel
mounted a comeback. Once again a tense frame ensued on the
colours with Neil potting good shots on the blue and pink to
force yet another black ball decider. After an exchange of
shots it was Noel who held his composure to pot the all
important black to secure the playoff match win 3-1 to the
Bayley. Frame 5, with D.Ferriday still yet to eat after
travelling from the Shrews bury snooker league it was decided
the frame between him and Steve Weatherall (Captain cough a
lot) was not necessary to play. My thanks to 2nd Club A for a
very sporting encounter who on another night could have had a
very different result. Also thanks to all players from both
teams who took part in refereeing and scoring on the night.
Thanks to Maddocks plus Ken Davies for their assistance with
the venue on the night, and to players from other teams who
come along to support / spectate.
