Chris Ward Individual Singles
Final played at Shifnal War Memorial Club on 24th April 2013
The final was contested between
Matt Davies and Angus Way , both of the home club with Matt
attempting to win the trophy for the eighth time in nine years
and Angus appearing in his first Chris Ward Final.
Frame 1
A slow start to the match with
both players playing safe in the early stages with Angus
edging ahead by 14 points Then a slight error from Angus
allowed Matt in to take a 66 break on his way to winning the
first frame by 74 points to 26 points
Frame 2
A more tactical frame this time
with both players playing some excellent safety shots , Matt
edging ahead by just over 30 points with two reds left on the
table. Matt then left Angus a glimmer of a chance at this
stage to take the remaining reds and colours , but having been
frozen out for so long Angus failed to take the opportunity
Matt winning the frame by 62 points to 14 points.
Frame 3
Again a safety exchange from
both players , and then the highlight of the match where Matt
knocked in a flawless break of 102 to take the frame by 118
points to nil.
Frame 4
This turned out to be the final
frame of the match and followed the pattern of the previous
frames, Matt not giving Angus a look in and when the
opportunity presented itself Matt knocked in a break of 49 ,
comfortably winning the frame by 67 points to 3 points.
FINAL RESULT MATT DAVIES 4
ANGUS WAY 0
Congratulations to Matt on
winning his eighth Telford Singles title and also to Angus on
reaching the final and to both players in playing the match in
such a sporting manner.
