TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 17th November 2010

 DIVISION 2

A good solid home performance by the Bayley lads. Tom Mulholland and Wally Harper’s game was a tight safety battle, which Tom eventually won on the pink. Kev West potted well from the start, and maintained it throughout, to comfortably beat Tom White. Doug Morrey potted well in beating Craig Whitehead, who by his own admission struggled to get going. Danny Olliver got in early and built up a 50-point lead, which was too much for Barry Roden in the end. Dickie Olliver rolled back the years and hardly missed a ball in beating Liam Goodman in the last. Good 4-1 that should keep things tight at the top.

In an open first frame Chris Morgan-Adams made more of his chances to put Bayley A in the driving seat, beating Laki Badhan 63 points to 38. Darren Pountney then duly levelled the scores with a convincing win against Arthur Burrows, 79 points to 13. Jon Wright then came out firing with a quick fire 39 break, which Maxwell Hodson never really recovered from, putting Hadley B 2-1 up. Steve Fletcher in the next frame may feel himself very unfortunate to lose, controlling the frame all the way until the end, Ken Booty needing snookers, watched Steve unfortunately glance off the pink and go in off. Ken then took a good pink and black to pinch the frame 56 points to 54. Bayley could not field a 5th player so the Hadley outfit won overall 4-1.

OTHER RESULTS: Coddon C 3 (Ollie Wall, Garry Owen, Matt Bothwell) 2nd Club A 2 (Ian Ferriday, Toby Welsh Hadley B 4 (Darren Pountney, Jon Wright, Ken Booty, Kev Whitehead)   Shifnal F 3 (Spencer Rowley, Chris Painter, Chris Petford).

 DIVISION 3

Match up between the divisions bottom two teams. Brian McMillan opened the scoring for Newport with some great potting, winning 67 – 9, with reds left on the table. Mike Turnock was in control in the second game, but Roy Francis took the last two reds and colours to sneak a 48 - 44 win to level. In a low scoring match, Mokesh Mehmi won 30 - 18 against Tony Morgan. Rushpal Bassi and Allen Francis played a really safe game, for over an hour, with Rush winning 47 - 11. In the last match, Iain Atkinson potted well and had a good run of the balls as he beat Mark Hebden 59 - 32 to make the score 3 - 2 to Newport

This looks like a one sided match 4-1 to Antice B over Allscott, but three of the frames Antice won could have gone either way. Stew Wimbush had to pot the pink in the first frame to beat Kev Welland, who had his chances at the end, but didn’t take them. George Hammond cleared with a 25 break in a nip and tuck frame win over John Shelvock, and Noel Stones struggled to beat David Finney in the last. The other two frames were won comfortably by Nigel Wallcroft over Nick Gwynne and Allscotts only win by Jason Allen, over Billy Watson.

OTHER RESULTS:  Bayley Q 3 (Chris Durham, Steve Weatherall, Richard Tranter) Maddocks B 2 (Maj Ilyas, Neil Warrender).

 DIVISION 1

Frame one, Matt Davies potted well in the early stages to see off Lee Elcock, and in frame two, between Aaron Sparkes and Graham Wiley, although a tight affair, it was the home player taking it on the colours. In the next frame, Angus Way knocked in a superb 58 to see off a resolute Jesse Lowe 79-6, and things went the home sides way in the next, with Lindsay Knox bouncing back from last weeks defeat, with a nice potting display to see of Stu Russell. In the last Ade Henry put some respectability on the score, beating a below par John Fallows.

Coddon B played the Bayley F at home this week, and although the Bayley side could only field three players due to illness, the Bayley side managed to win two of the three frames in a good match between the players that were there. Mick Hughes played extremely well to beat Kirk Steventon, but late substitute, Andy Phelan, then lost to Mick Pearson. A good potting match between Neil Pearson and Alan Turner saw the third frame go to the Bayley team.

OTHER RESULTS: Broseley A 5 (John Banks, Dave Shaw, Neil Caswell, Graeme Long, Mick Brezwyn) Coddon A 0 (); Maddocks C 1 (Steve Hassack) Dawley A 4 (Carl Walker, Sean Nolan, Alex Nolan, Mark Jones).
