The end of
an era this week, with the season all but over apart from play
offs. Sadly, as you all know by now, the Coddon club has
closed, where I personally have enjoyed playing throughout the
years, and secondly, another blow to our league, the Bayley A
who have had a team for as long as I can remember, have
finally called it a day. A couple of the players are retiring,
and sadly earlier this season we lost poor Steve Nichols too.
My thanks to the team, past and present for affording us the
pleasure of their company whenever we met and played.
Division
One.
Well,
what a finish to this division, after the teams fighting for
the title went into their last matches all level. Antice had
no easy match as they had to play Maddocks C, and although
they held the home advantage there must have been an air of
tension to say the least. Ian Duffy got the home side off to a
winning start with Kieth Price putting them 2-0 up. Maddocks C
then pulled one back with Steve Hassock beating Neil Price.
Shaun Harris took the next, and in the last Tom Maxfield
narrowly beat Darren Wilkie for the home side to record a 4-1
victory.
Meanwhile,
the other side contesting the honours had to visit the
Maddocks A team. The undefeated Matt Davies remained just
that, when he beat Phil Davies for his side to go one up.
Aaron Sparkes increased the lead, with Angus way making no
mistake in the next. Dave France then beat Lindsay Knox, who
has struggled with his form this season, but in the last,
although a close frame John Fallows got the final point which
means that there will have to be a play off for the title.
T.B.A.
Matt
Davies has the most wins in this division, 22 and undefeated.

It
is Hadley B who take the honours in this division winning by a
margin of three points, and two of Hadley’s players, Darren
Pountney and Laki Badhan, share the most wins with Chris
Lawson from L.D.S. B, all on eighteen wins each. Eden A fill
the runners up spot which is a commendable result given that
this is their first season back in the league and will join
the top flight next season. Hadley were away to L.D.S.C, and
in the first frame Kev Whithead in a close frame put the
Hadley side one up. Ken Booty made it two before Laki Badhan
continued his good from by taking the next. John Wright put
Hadley firmly in the driving seat before Darren Pountney
completed the rout with and easy win in the last frame. So,
it’s well done to Hadley who will be playing first division
snooker next season.

Division
Three
Bayley
Q vs Newport A. It was the last league match night of the
season and for a lot of teams it was squeaky bum time. Steve
Weatherall and Brian McMillan got things under way in an edgy
frame from the outset; Brian held the early advantage only for
Steve to swap the tables (not literally, although this may
have helped) going into the colours. However it was Brian with
a perfectly weighted blue, pink and black clearance to win for
the visitors. With Bayley Q knowing they needed a match win on
the night, frame 2 saw Rob Cook take on Wai Loon Loo. Some
early pots were exchanged on both sides but Wai following on
from last weeks 25 break showed some neat potting skills to
win 64-31. Pressure fell on to Bailey’s Lee Newton against
Mike Turnock. Some solid potting on both sides but Lee built
up a steady lead to the point where Mike required 3 snookers.
Unfortunately for Lee some high point misses getting out of
clever snookers, plus an angled pink from Mike, saw it go down
to the wire. Mike potted a pressure pink with the white
awkward by the cushion, but his follow up on the black was not
on target for his chosen pocket, but the gods of luck were on
his side as it glued itself to the rail on the way back down
into the yellow corner pocket. Bayley Q's night had not gone
to plan and the same continued as another close frame between
Chris Fletcher and Rushpal Bassi, saw Rushpal pull out some
fine safety shots to claim it on the pink. It was Richard
Tranter for the Bayley who at last showed some resolve as he
took on the splinter laden Mokesh Lal, and despite some clever
snookers (splinter or no splinter) Rich was not to be denied
winning 66-38. Bayley Q took it as an open ended compliment
that Newport A were very keen for this fixture to be based in
the 3rd division next season, and given that these two sides
occupied 10th and 11th spot earlier in the season, both have
the capabilities to go for a promotion spot next year. ALSO A
BIG THANK YOU TO ALL 3rd DIVISION SIDES FOR AN ENJOYABLE
SEASON, AND WE HOPE TO SEE A FULL COMPLIMENT OF 12 TEAMS IN
THE DIVISION FOR NEXT SEASON.
In
this division Noel Stones has most wins being undefeated with
22 wins.
