This top
of the table clash was a thriller. In frame one the ever
reliable Matt Davies faced Keith Price, with both players on
the top of their game. Keith took an early 30 lead, but Matt
responded well to close the gap. Keith then missed his
position on the final green, and Matt cleared to put his side
one up. In the next Darren Weston played Ian Duffy, who is
having a cracking season. Ian was quickly out of the blocks
and opened up an unassailable lead to level the scores. In
frame 3 Az Sparkes played Neil Price, and it was the away
player who started best, but Az came back well, and in a table
clearing 25 break put his side in the lead. In frame four John
Fallows played another old timer in Shaun Harris, both potting
well early on, but John is in good form this season and took
the remaining balls to give his side the win. It was just by
how many as Shifnal Captain Angus played young Tom Maxfield.
It was tight early doors, and when Angus played a safety shot,
leaving Tom in a chinese snooker, with the balls open, he
thought he might leave something, but Tom had other ideas and
knocked in a brilliant long red, leaving himself a hard shot
at the black. Tom also took this on and potted it going on to
compile a very good break of 87 to leave the score 3-2. With
the Shifnal lads facing the harder run in, this looks like a
good result for the Anstice lads

Bayley
B bounced back from last weeks disappointing defeat, with a
solid home win 4-1 to 2nd Club A. Danny Oliver was up first
against Ian Ferriday, and with Danny struggling a bit with his
game, Ian took full advantage and deservedly won the game
comfortably 58-20. Craig Baugh kept up his great form beating
Grenville Thompson 83-13 with some classy long pots. Tom
Mulholland got back to winning ways beating Dave Welsh 66-18,
taking the last couple of reds with high value colours to take
the frame. Dickie Beddall has had his best season for a few
years, and knocked in some fantastic long balls with the
occasional slice of luck that you associate with Dickie! Mike
wasn't at his normal fluent best, but take nothing away from
Dickie who won the frame 53-23. Last up was the always
impressive Ben Sewell, who even with a bad back still played
better than certainly I could ever dream of! As is customary
with Ben he knocked in a solid 34 in the middle of the frame,
but by his own admission lost concentration trying to get
perfect position. Toby didn’t get many chances and was
limited to long pots from the back cushion to try and get in,
and this proved to be the difference with Ben taking the frame
73-14. Much needed win and should all but secure a playoff
place baring any disasters!!! Touch wood

Bayley
Q vs. Hadley A. Frame one saw some impressive flowing potting
from Rob Cook, as he took on Richard (Tugboat) Benting. Rich
put up his defences, but they were not as good as his other
team (Spurs vs. Milan), so Rob won the frame 67-45. Frame two
with Captain Chris Fletcher taking his form in the right
direction to win 51-22 against Danny Francis. Tony Morgan was
left wondering if his mad motorway dash was for the best, as
Lee Newton secured the match win for the Bayley with a score
of 74-0. Al Francis potted the better individual shots, but
could not string enough together, losing 48-25 to Steve
Weatherall. Richard (1,2 shuffle) Tranter, made it a rare
night to remember for the Bayley lads with a 67-5 win over
Iain Atkinson. Hadley A stated you don’t get more consistent
than them of late, leaving Bayley thankful to claim a 5-0 win.
Rob was so delirious he could not remember Iain's name, with
Iain claiming Al had played twice then, as Hadley left
laughing.
