DIVISION
ONE
It
may be the first week of a new season but it was ‘business
as usual’ for the joint favourites for the first division
title as both Anstice A and Shifnal B recorded near perfect
starts.
Anstice
A hosted newly promoted Bayley F and a patient break of 45 saw
Ian Duffy take the first frame against Phil Whitby. Good
potting from Keith and Neil Price was good enough to see off
Steve Watkin and Mick Hughes. Shaun Harris was unlucky to go
in off the blue to give Andy Kendrick Bayley’s only point
and a close battle in the last went to Simon Yeats for a 4-1
victory.
It
was the same scoreline for Shifnal B who visited Bayley E with
victories for Mat Davies, John Fallows, Nigel Stallard and
Angus Way. Ali
Jones was the only winner for Bayley as a 28 break saw him
home against Aaron Sparkes.
Maddocks
C got off to a flyer last season but lightning would not
strike twice as they went down 4-1 to Little Dawley A.
Maddocks point was courtesy of Joe Oliver while the
winners for the Little Dawley men Mat Bailey, Lee Elcock, Stu
Russell and Ade Henry.
Broseley
A were narrow 3-2 losers to Dawley A with the highlight of the
match a break of 53 from John Banks.
Carl Walker, Sean Nolan and Andy Garbett put the Dawley
side 3-0 up with John and Mick Brezwyn picking up the 2 points
for Broseley.
DIVISION
TWO
Newly
promoted Hadley B were away to 2nd Club A for their
opener and lost the first frame to Mike Thompson but wins from
Laki Badhan, Jon Wright, Ken Booty and Dave Smout
gave them a 4-1 victory and an impressive start to
their division two campaign.
Bayley
B hosted Shifnal A and the first frame was a tight one with
Craig Baugh eventually edging out Mark Worsdell on the black.
Next Tom Mullholland opened up an early lead but a poor safety
left Rich Davies a chance which he took plus the last 3
colours to win on the black. A quality frame between Kev West
and Andy Carson throughout until Andy needed a snooker with
the last 3 balls in very difficult positions. A valiant
attempt left Kev with awkward cueing and when he failed to
make contact with the blue Andy took the last 3 colours to
steal the frame. Mark Jones never gave Danny Oliver a sniff
and opened up a 20 point lead early on but a 24 break and the
last 2 reds with colours opened up a 20 point lead and gave
Danny the frame. Dickie Beddall took on Eddie Mullard in the
last, Eddie looked very impressive on his Telford League Debut
and knocked in a quality break of 38. Dickie potted some good
balls to give himself half a chance but Eddie never let him
back in.

DIVISION
THREE
Bayley
Q christened the clubs new snooker room with a closely fought
win over Anstice B. The 1st frame was nip & tuck all the
way until Rob Cook edged out the final colours
to get Bayley off to a winning start. Noel Stones took
the second frame to level the match followed by Mick Cahill,
who produced the best spell of potting on the night including
a smooth 24, opened up a 40 point lead over Lee Newton who,
despite a gutsy fightback just failed and put Anstice B 2-1
up. Another close tussle in the next with an exchange of
snookers between Steve Weatherall and John Darrock but in the
end Steve potted the pink to level the match at 2-2. In the
decider Rich Tranter & Billy Watson locked horns, and only
some solid potting by Rich at the end ensured that Bayley Q
got off to a winning start.
Hadley
A started their season how they mean to continue with a
resounding thumping from 2nd club B, Richard Benting recording
their solitary victory against Alan Kynaston, Although the
result was much closer than the scoreline suggests. Roy
Francis & Iain Atkinson were both in with a chance against
Dean Mouncastle & Roger Smith respectfully until the final
2 colours and Tony Morgan narrowly lost to Nick Holmes . Allen
Francis never got into his stride losing 46-4 against Chris
Cotterill making it a 4-1 victory for the Trench side. Allen
subsequently "retired" from snooker after 20+ years
of playing in the league, however, after another drink, he
announced his comeback, but only as an emergency backup!
Having a squad of only 6 players means that emergencies will
be coming thick & fast, see you next week Al!
