TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - CUP FINALS

Telford and District Amateur Snooker League (sponsored by Chris Hardy Tyres).

Team Knockout Final: Eden A v Newport B, with Eden having to concede 65 points on the handicap, this looked like a tough match against the Division 3 champions, first up was C Reynolds v A Davies with Craig in superb form from the start, knocking in some great long pots to secure an early lead, which he never gave up, winning 88-33, frame 2 S Powell v W Weeks, this seemed to be a more tight frame, both players having been in good form this season, yet again it was the Eden player who took the frame 61-27, frame 3 saw two veterans of the league L Stirling v M Reynolds, with Mick returning to the league after an absence and he is thoroughly enjoying his time back, as the score showed 96-21, putting the Eden lads in a strong position with two frames to go, frame 4 saw C Farge take on R Jones and the Newport player played some superb snooker in this one, bringing his side a slim chance going into the last, taking the frame 58-25, alas Roger Lewis proved too strong for Steve Speake and took the frame, Making Eden A this seasons Team Knockout winners, my thanks to Frank Williams for sending the scores.

Consolation Cup Final: played at the Sir John Bayley Club, Lds B (Now playing from Eden) v Shifnal B, the Shifnal team from Div 1 had to concede 125 on the handicap, frame one saw the return of Nigel Stallard for the Shifnal side, he faced Pete Clarke, with the Shifnal player quickly out of the blocks with some nice pots to open up an early lead, Pete played a few good shots of his own, but failed to capitalise on those opportunities, the Shifnal man then knocked in a 28 break, with just the 7 colours left, Pete potted a brilliant yellow, followed by the green and brown, then Nigel duly cleared up the remaining balls to win 68-21, frame 2 John Fallows v Richie Heighway, this time it was the Eden player who started well with some great reds, but was unlucky not to get position they deserved, John seemed to be struggling with the table, then he knocked a full length of the table red in and made a nice 30 plus break, Richie responded with some good pots to reduce the gap, both players then shared the remaining colours to leave the score 68-37 to John, frame 3 A Sparkes v S Drake, with both players in form this turned out to be a high scoring frame, Aaron started the brighter earlier on, opening up a 30 point lead, Sam then produced some of his seasons good form with some brilliant potting to put him within touching distance, a few safety shots gave Aaron the chance to extend the lead once again, eventually winning 67-46, frame 4 M Davies v C Lawson, early on this looked like it was going to be a hard frame for Chris, as a double kiss on a red left Matt a long shot, which he duly knocked in with his customary aplomb, going on to compile a break of 50, Chris followed up by knocking in a fantastic long red and making a 20 plus break to get back into the frame, the points were shared up to the colours, when a rare miss by Matt on an easy blue gave Chris to clear up the remaining balls losing 94-43, going into frame 5 the Shifnal side were 25 up on the handicap, A Way facing C Gittus, a nervy affair to start off with, with Colin potting some good long reds, but as with his team mates before, he was unlucky not to get position on a colour, Angus replied with some nice shots to open up a 20 plus lead, Colin responded well, but could never quite get on terms, leaving Angus to see his side through and win the Consolation cup, a huge thanks to Steve Fletcher for stepping in at the eleventh hour to referee the match, as John Jones had been taken ill the night before, our best wishes for a quick recovery to John.
