Welcome back one and all to the start of this season’s
snooker league. Fortunately we only have one bye this season,
and welcome newcomers, Allscott, and although not all new
players, Hadley B.
Shifnal B got off to a winning start when they played the
Bayley A side at Shifnal. Lindsay Knox was the solitary loser
for the Shifnal side, losing to one of Bayley’s best,
Steve Fletcher. Matt Davies recorded a 93-0 victory over his
opponent with Angus Way, and John Fallows also winning after
Aaron Sparkes had set them on their way.
LDS A were at home to Broseley A, and Broseley had the match
won by the fourth frame, the result 3-2 to Broseley.
Dawley A didn’t start too well losing their first home
match to Maddocks C, 4-1. Mark Jones for the Dawley side,
had a 32 break when he beat Graham Hoof, but that was the
only win for Dawley. Steve Hassack also had a 37 break in
his win over Andy Garbett.
Maddocks A started their campaign at home, and new signing
G. Wilkinson made an impressive debut in the last frame with
breaks of 66 and 44 playing Paul Proctor in the newly promoted
Audco C team. So, a good 4-1 win for the Maddocks A side.
Bayley E will be well pleased with their 4-1 victory over
Shifnal F. Shifnal had to wait until the last frame for their
only win of the evening, and that came when Chris Petford
beat Dave France 54-30.
Second Division
Bayley B opened their campaign with a fine 5-0 win at home
to Dawley B. Closest frame of the evening was between Kelvin
McLeod and Tom Roden, that score 40-39 to Kelvin. Another
new signing made his winning debut, Tom Mulholland, who beat
Barry Roden.
Another 5-0 result recorded in this division, was Bayley
F who took all five points from Shifnal A. Three frames were
on the black, and a hard fought match it was. Phil Whitby
returned to the fold and maybe playing much more often than
last season, although he plays like he’s never been
away from the game for too long.
Coddon C were at home in their fist match and recorded a
4-1 victory over the Second Club A side. The Second Club also
waited until the last frame of the evening for their point,
when Neil Robinson got the better of Mark Tusel, 80-35.
Maddocks B, who did so well in the last two frames of last
season to stay up, lost their first match 3-2 against Min.
Fats A, despite having the home advantage. Another winning
debut from a Maddocks player, Geoff Tudor, who beat Mick Egan.
Local derby match between LDS C and LDS G, ended with a win
3-2 for the G side. This match went to a decider with the
match win gained by Graham Copson for the LDS G side.
Third Division
Three 4-1 wins in this division, and the first mentioned
is Anstice B who were away to the Second Club B team. Nick
Holmes was the solitary winner for the Second Club, so, two
4-1 defeats for the Second Club teams.
Coddon B lost 4-1 when they entertained the Bayley D side,
with new signing Brian McMillan beating Dave Dudley 62-26
to gain that win, again, last frame of the evening.
The revamped Hadley A team lost their home match to Dawley
C, with the Dawley side, a player short. Three unrecognised
players on Hadley’s team card, with yet another player
in his first frame claiming a win. Lee Mayger beat Andy Shaw
76-38. That result, 3-2 to Dawley C.
The second Hadley side, Hadley B, new to the league, but
consisting of established players, were away to Newport B.
Hadley B won this match 4-1.
Finally, Bayley Q, also fielding new signings, started their
campaign at home playing Shifnal D. This result went to Bayley
Q 3-2, so a good start for most of the Bayley teams at the
beginning of the season.
As I have been working away, I am behind with reports etc.
but normal service will be resumed for the next report.
