Maddocks A top the division this week after visiting Bayley
A and winning this match 4-1. Mike Healey for Bayley, was
beaten in the opening frame by Dave France, with Bob Mason
suffering the same fate against Ian Eldridge. The next frame
saw Steve Nichols matched against Ian Skelton. This was a
good frame for the Bayley, with Steve nicking the frame on
a re-spotted black. Chris Morgan-Adams then lost to Phil Davies
for Maddocks to go 4-1 up. In the last frame Leigh France
made the final score 4-1 to Maddocks with a convincing win
playing Arthur Burrows.
Broseley A played hosts to Anstice A, and although the result
went to Anstice by the odd frame in five, this looked to be
an exciting match. Graeme Long lost to Steve Camp, playing
his first match of the season, but Simon McLeod levelled the
scores by beating Ian Duffy, 58-46. Neil Caswell then lost
to Keith Price, followed by two very close frames. Mick Brezwyn
just got the better of Simon Yeates 49-47, and then in the
final frame Neil Price beat John Banks 58-57.
Coddon A were at home to Dawley A, and it was Dawley A who
have started the season well, who won this match 3-2. Andy
Jones lost to Carl Walker in the first, for the away side
to register their first point. Mark Wall for Coddon was just
beaten by Pete Nolan, but then Tony Garmson got Coddon on
the score sheet with a win over A. Garbett. Dave Lloyd lost
by the narrowest of margins to Mark Jones, that score, 49-47
to Mark. It was Steve Downes for Coddon who took the final
point of the evening when he defeated Rick Bailey.
Following on from lasts weeks excellent result in beating
their A side 3-2, Maddock's C continued with their best ever
start to a season in continuing their winning run by beating
a slightly unlucky Bayley E side five frames to nil . Ian
Cleary started the match , achieving a well deserved first
win of the season by 43-23 against Andy O'Brien . Next up
was Darren Wilkie who pinched the frame 54-51after his opponent
John Squires missed a fairly straight forward black . Mick
Wincott , playing with much more confidence , then played
very well in defeating Ali Jones 61-22 . With their 4th straight
win under their belt captain Joe Oliver then won a fairly
mediocre frame by 50-18 against Dave Beyer , leaving Steve
Hassack to wrap up the match against Bayley captain Dave France
, and return to his normal winning ways . So far , an excellent
start to the season for a team who were only saved from relegation
last season by a team dropping out . Can they keep it up ?

Second Division
Minnesota Fats A are playing well at the moment, and in
their match this week they entertained Dawley B. Mick Pearson
opened for the home side and put his team one up after his
frame with Liam Goodman, Mick 45, Liam 39. The next frame
was a lot easier for Kirk Stevenson, who won a comfortable
frame against Tom White. Neil Pearson also had an easy win
over Nigel Brazenall. A close frame followed this, but it
was the away side who gained the winning point, courtesy of
Barry Roden who just pipped Dave Blagborough, 52-42. Phil
Bufton made no mistakes in the last frame to make it 4-1 for
Min Fats, as he beat Billy Fletcher comfortably.
Maddocks D met Bayley B at the Oakengates venue, with the
home side taking the opening frame, with Ian Courtney coming
out the victor of an exciting frame with Kev West, that score
54-52 to Ian. The next frame also went to Maddocks, this time
Fred Spragg beating Craig Baugh. The tide started to turn
for Bayley after that frame when Cheryl Caswell lost to undefeated
Tom Mulholland. The match was then levelled by Dickie Bedall
winning a tight frame against Roy Lowe. Bayley continued their
march by taking the last frame to secure a 3-2 win after Danny
Oliver scored a comfortable win over Maj Ilyas.
Bayley F were the home side in their fixture with Maddocks
B. Phil Whitby had a 29 break in his match with Wally Harper
in a good potting display by both players.
Mick Hughes ran out a comfortable winner over Les Hicks,
but in the next frame Doug Morrey produced a master class
of safety play against Alan Turner. A real war of contrition
this frame, with Doug taking the point. Next up, Andy Kendrick
put the home side 3-1 up with a win over Geoff Tudor. Graham
Darrall made the final score 4-1 to the Bayley team beating
John Archer.
Not much between Coddon C and Little Dawley G in the table,
and this week they were pitched against each other at the
Dawley club. G. Clements put the home side one up in a close
frame with Ollie Wall, 54-46. Rob Withington then lost to
Matt Bothwell to level the frame scores, before Tommy Bell
restored the lead for the Dawley side when he defeated Mark
Tusel. Roy Levenue lost a close frame with Garry Owen to set
up a deciding frame between Graham Copson and Daniel Ballard.
A very high frame score it was too, with Daniel winning the
match with a 74-66 score line over Graham.
Shifnal A need to step their game up a little before they
get too far adrift, having not found their form as yet. This
week they were the home side in the match between themselves
and Little Dawley C. A good start for Shifnal with Richard
Davies beating Pete Randall. Unfortunately that was as far
as it went for the Shifnal lads, but the scores on the doors,
so to speak, showed a well fought match between the sides.
Mark Wordsell lost 63-53 to Carl Kesterton, followed by Ian
Postins losing on the black to John Calvert. G. Lloyd just
lost out to Joe Rixom, 59-52, and in the final frame Mark
Jones lost to Gary Walls 57-47.
Third Division
Little Dawley B have only dropped four points total so far
this season, and will be well pleased with their performances
to date. This week the Little Dawley side played hosts to
Second Club B. Sam Drake got the home side off to a winning
start when he played Chris Coterhill. Alan Kynaston struck
back for the Second Club taking the frame from Mark Randall.
Richie Heighway made it 2-1 for the Dawley side beating Nick
Holmes, before Colin Gittus added another, getting the better
of Keith Mears. Chris Lawson took the final point on offer
with an easy win over Roger Smith to give his Dawley side
the 4-1 victory.
Anstice B, challenging the leaders, are also maintaining
their good start to the season, will this be their year? The
Anstice side were at home to Hadley A. Anstice went into a
4-0 lead in this match, but not without a fight from the Hadley
lads. The opener was won 43-40 by Steve Smallwood for the
home side when he played Richard Benting. John Darrock increased
the score beating Craig Dicken, and Noel Stones took the next
frame from Tony Morgan. George Hammond won a close frame with
Lee Mayger, and it was left to Iain Atkinson to get the only
point for his side, and this he did by beating Billy Watson.
Dawley C were at home to the struggling Bayley Q team, and
it was Sean Cross who inflicted the first loss of the evening
on the Bayley side when he beat Chris Durham. It was Lee Newton
for the Bayley side, securing his first win of the season,
and the only point for his side on this evening, taking the
frame from Chris Gifford. Neil Davis made it 2-1 winning against
Robert Cook. Andy Shaw made it 3-1 with a win over Andy Fletcher.
The last frame was a close affair with home player Luke Edwards
49, and Chris Bates 41.
Bayley D secured a 4-1 victory as they took on Newport B
at the Wellington club. Brian Aberdeen lost the opening frame
to Colin Farge before Dave Dudley levelled the score with
a win over Allan Davies. Dave Williams took the next for Bayley
defeating Keith Gardener. Mark Bedall proved too good for
Steve Speake with a comfortable win to send his side into
a 3-1 lead, and although a close final frame, it was Bayley’s
Jim Lewis who beat John Yapp 44-36 to make the score 4-1 to
the Bayley side.
The last match to report this week must have been similar
to a local derby game, as both of the teams mentioned used
to play their snooker at the same club. I’m sure someone
will correct me if wrong; however it was Coddon B at home
to Allscott. The Coddon team started well with a win in the
first, as Graham Nield beat Aaron Griffiths 48-34. George
Allen for the away side levelled playing Roger Lewis. The
Allscott side then went into a 2-1 lead as Steve Powell defeated
Steve Beech. Allscott continued the run, and also won the
next frame, and consequently the match, with Dave Finney taking
the frame from Mokesh Lal. The last frame was very close and
it was Brian McMillan who triumphed over Kev Wellan, just!
42-37.
