Into our third week of the season now, but this week I
can’t blame the post man for the shortage of results
coming in. All of the results came in from the third and second
division, but alas only three from the first, but even with
those few in, Maddocks still top the table, with their card
yet to appear.
Little Dawley A were hosts to the Bayley club A this week,
and it was the home side that took this match 3-2. Lee Elcock
beat Steve Nichols, who returned to the Bayley for for his
first frame of the season. Chris Morgan-Adams restored the
balance beating Phil Cottey, and then Jesse Lowe stepped up
to defeat Arthur Burrows. The match win was secured by Graham
Wiley who won the frame against Bob Mason. In the last game
it was Maxwell Hodson who gained the second point for Bayley
when he got the better of Ade Henry.
Bayley E, at home to Broseley, lost a close match 3-2. Graeme
Long got his first win of the season under his belt when he
beat Andy Obrien. Neil Caswell made it 2-0 playing John Squire
Jnr. Mick Brezwyn then saw off John Squire Snr. with an emphatic
win. Ali Jones stopped the rot when he defeated John Banks,
and in the last Dave France beat Simon McLeod in a very close
frame.
Shifnal F were playing Coddon at the Shifnal club, and the
Shifnal team came out of this match with a 4-1 victory. Coddon,
haven’t started too well, although in this match the
opening frame went their way with Dave Lloyd securing the
first frame for Coddon to get them off to a good start. Unfortunately,
after that frame Coddon never really got back into the match.
The next one went to Chris Painter against Steve Downes, followed
by Rob Wright beating Andy Jones. The trend continued with
Roy Martin adding another point to the tally, seeing off Tony
Garmson. The final frame went to Dave Peplow when he beat
Mark Wall.
Second Division
Bayley B top this division this week, and it was the Bayley
B side playing at home to Little Dawley G. who took this match
3-2. Chris Baugh won the first playing G. Clement. Tom Mulholland
made it three wins in a row for himself, beating D. Levenue
58-31. Kev West made it 3-0 as he took on Tommy Bell, and
it looked like there was no stopping the Bayley side. However,
the next frame saw Roy Levenue for Little Dawley win his frame
against the very useful Danny Oliver, with Graham Copson adding
a second point for the Dawley side with a win over Kelvin
McLeod.
Coddon C started brightly enough with Matt Bothwell getting
the first frame of the evening for his side when he beat Aaron
O’Donnell. The next frame saw Neil Pearson for the away
side, Minnesota Fats A, take the next, with his win over Mark
Tusel. Daniel Ballard restored the lead for Coddon whilst
having a 22 break as he defeated Mick Egan. Garry Owen then
lost to Kirk Stevenson to set up a deciding frame between
Ollie Wall and Phil Bufton. This one went to Phil, thereby
giving the match win to the Little Dawley Side.
Little Dawley C, newly promoted to this division, were at
home to the Bayley F side, and this match went to the Bayley
side who were unfortunately a player short. Little Dawley
will acquit themselves well in this division, as this result
indicates that this was a tough match for the Bayley side.
Joe Rixom lost to Phil Whitby on the black and it looked as
close in the second frame with Carl Kestrton losing out to
Bayley new signing, Steve Watkins, 53-44. In another high
scoring frame John Calvert beat Mick Hughes, and then in the
last Gary Wall lost to Andy Kendrick.
Dawley B were the home side in the match between themselves
and Second Club A. The Trench side opened up with a win courtesy
of Ian Ferriday defeating Billy Fletcher, with Tom White levelling
the scores with an easy win over Paul Crooks. Nigel Brazenall
then got the better of Dave Welsh for Dawley to go 2-1 up.
In the fourth frame it was Toby Welsh for the Trench side
that set up a decider by taking the frame from Barry Roden.
The decider was won by Liam Goodman who played Mike Thompson.
A local derby match next with Maddocks B taking on Maddocks
D. As happens so often in these local derby matches, the result
was a 3-2 win, and the win went to The “B” side.
Les Hicks got his first win of the campaign playing Cheryl
Caswell. I would imagine Les had a few score years of experience
to draw on in this frame, and great to see him still enjoying
his snooker. Another well known campaigner, Doug Morrey won
the next frame for Maddocks B, when he beat Roy Lowe. At 2-0
up it was Ian Courtney who started a revival in a close frame
with Geoff Tudor. M. Ilyas then won his frame with John Archer
to set up another deciding frame. This time it was between
Roy Adams and Fred Spragg, with Roy coming out on top and
gaining the match win for Maddocks B.
Third Division
Hadley B were away to the Second Club B this week, and this
team looks a stonewall certainty to win this division. The
Trench side were no match for Hadley with Chris Coterhill
losing to Matt Bailey 86-8. Nick Holmes did get a frame when
he beat Kevin Whitehead, who, incidentally, used to play for
the Hadley A side. The next frame was close, but Darren Pountney
beat Alan Kynaston 51-40 to make it 2-1 for Hadley. D. Smout
took the score line to 3-1 beating Keith Mears. The final
frame saw K. Booty, another ex Hadley A side player, win his
frame 77-8 against Roger Smith.
Bayley Q are having a difficult start to the season, and
this week was no different as they took on Little Dawley B
at the Bayley club. Robert Cook for Bayley lost the first
frame to Ritchie Heighway 72-6, with Ritchie getting a 26
break during the frame. Sam Drake for Dawley made it 2-0 beating
Chris Fletcher. The Bayley side continued to struggle, with
their next player, Chris bates losing to Colin Gittus. No
chance for Steve Weatherall in the next, as he was beaten
comfortably by Chris Lawson. Mark Randall for the Dawley side
completed the rout with a victory over Richard Tranter.
Shifnal D, mid table at present, came up against Anstice
B this week, at the Shifnal club. Shifnal took an early lead
when Andy Easthope beat John Darrock. Sanjay Chauhan then
had a 33 break in his frame with Mick Cagill, that score,
59-55. Another break in the next frame, but this time it was
from Anstice player, Noel Stones who had a 28 on his way to
a win over Terry Askew. George Hammond then levelled the match
against Arthur Aston in a very close frame, to leave a decider
played by Geoff French and Billy Watson. Billy took the frame,
and the match in this frame.
Newport B have got off to a slow start, and this week they
lost at home to the Dawley C team. Back to the fold, Colin
Farge sprung into action with a winning start defeating Luke
Edwards. Chris Gifford replied for Dawley with a comfortable
win over Richard Goldie. Newport’s turn next, with Allan
Davies beating namesake, Neil Davies. Steve Speake lost the
next frame against Dawley player Sean Cross, who had a nice
31 break in the frame. The deciding frame in this match was
won when Andy Shaw beat Les Stirling, leaving Les still looking
for his first win!
Allscott have settled into league snooker very quickly, and
I hope they are enjoying the experience. This week saw them
as the home side, when they entertained Bayley D. Aaron Griffiths
got the home side off to a good start taking the first frame
from Jim Lewis. Dave Dudley took the next for his team when
he beat Jason Allen to make it 1-1. A very close match followed
with Steve Powell getting the better of Dave Williams 48-42.
Calum Starling then lost to Brian Aberdeen to set up a deciding
frame between Carl Starling and Mark Bedall. A tight frame
between the two players with Carl just edging out Mark, 49-39.
Last but not least, Hadley A were playing at home against
Coddon B. The opener went to Coddon with Brian McMillan having
a 29 break playing Roy Francis. Richard Benting made it 1-1
beating Dave Lloyd Jnr. Tony Morgan put Hadley back into the
lead with a win over Roger Lewis. Mokesh Lal them beat Al
Francis to set up yet another deciding match in this weeks
fixtures. This one saw M. Ebdon beating Iain Atkinson 47-39
to give the match win to Coddon.
