Anstice A were the home team in this weeks match with the
LDS A side. Keith Price opened the match, and made a 29 break
during his win over Lee Elcock. Keith’s’ brother
Neil found his opponent, Graham Wiley difficult to beat, but
in the end Neil came out the winner of this contest, 64-58.
Not to be outdone by his team mates, Simon Yeates made it
3-0 beating Jesse Lowe. Adam Moore has hit wining form in
his last couple of frames, and he continued with that form
when he played Stu Russell. That was also a close affair with
Adam winning 59-47. Ian Duffy made no mistake in the last
frame to inflict the white wash on LDS A when he had a comprehensive
victory over Ade Henry.
Bayley E took on second placed Maddocks A at the Bayley club,
and in the opener Andy Obrien came up against Ian Eldridge,
who is yet to lose a frame so far in this campaign. Ian continued
his winning ways compiling a 52 break, has he beat Andy. Dave
Beyer took to the table next and drew Ian Skelton. Another
break in this frame, again from the Maddocks player, Ian,
and this time it was a 54 which gave little chance to Dave
of winning the frame. Ali Jones gave Phil Davies a good run
for his money, but in the end it was Phil who triumphed with
a 65-54 score line. John Squire was the next player on, and
he became the only winner of the evening when he defeated
Dave France. It was then back to winning ways for Maddocks
as Leigh France made it 4-1 to the Maddocks side with a win
over his namesake, Dave France from the Bayley side.
Broseley played at home to the struggling Bayley A side,
and in this match it was John Banks who went to the table
first to play Chris Morgan-Adams. John took this frame 81-25
against Chris. The next frame must have come as a shock for
Steve Nichols from the Bailey, as he stepped up to play an
on fire Simon McLeod. Simon had a good break of 55 during
the frame, and ran out with a score of 110 plays 0! The next
frame also had some great snooker played, this time it was
Graeme Long who beat Arthur Burrows, and Graeme knocked in
a 61 whilst winning this one. All going well for Broseley,
and in the next it was the ever steady Mick Brezwyn to play
Steve Fletcher. Mick had two breaks in his frame, one of 40
and another of 32. This hardly gave Steve the chance to compete,
and so Mick made it 4-1. In the last frame Neil Caswell didn’t
want to be the odd one out, but Maxwell Hodson had different
ideas, and it was Maxwell who gained a much needed point for
the Bayley lads.
Following a couple of bad results the Maddock's C side returned
to winning ways with a clean sweep against a Coddon A side
who are finding it tough at the moment . First up was Steve
Hassack who played extremely well in defeating a very capable
Dave Lloyd by 65-11 . Next was Darren Wincott against Andy
Jones and this game could have gone either way but Darren
eventually potted a good long black to pinch the frame 51-47
. A scrappy game then followed with Darren Wilkie taking the
frame 62-28 against a quite resilient Tony Garmson . Having
just returned from Egypt that morning a tired Joe Oliver then
took on Steve Downes and with Joe winning the early battle
of safety play , he took the 4th frame quite comfortably 64-19
. In the final frame of the evening Ian Cleary played Mark
Wall , but with Ian having started the frame well , as much
as he tried very hard Mark could not get the snookers required
and Ian went out a deserved winner by 62-28 . A 5-0 win was
an excellent way to return to winning ways and captain Joe
Oliver was delighted with this result , especially against
a team who last year had finished one point above them in
the relegation dogfight .
Second Division
Bayley F are doing well so far this season, and they have
hit the front of this division with a game in hand. This week
the Bayley side were away to LDS G, and although securing
a 4-1 victory, this was a tough match. LDS G were flying in
the early stages of last season, and it was Rob Withington
who opened the match for the Dawley side playing Phil Whitby.
Rob potted well to keep the pressure on Phil, and ran out
a comfortable winner in the end. Graham Copson was next up
for Dawley, and he played Alan Turner. This was a scrappy
frame, but although chasing the game, Alan was dogged enough
to come through, and won the frame on the pink after Grahams’
safety shot didn’t quite come off. The next frame saw
recent signing Stu Ross up against Graham Darrell. A good
frame this one, and it looked like this was going to the Dawley
side, with Stu playing very well. However, in the end it was
Graham who pulled through with a score line of 54-43. Roy
Levenue was never at the races with Mick Hughes, and Mick
made it 3-1 to the Bayley, but the frame scores could have
been so different by then, still that’s snooker for
you. In the last frame Tommy Bell potted out of this world,
and Andy Kendrick knew he was in a real tough match in this
one. Andy stuck with his game, and kept coming up with the
answers to Tommys’ game with some good potting of his
own, and when it came down to a black ball finish, after a
few good safety shots from both players, Andy potted a superb
black to take this frame, and make it 4-1 to Bayley F.
Minn Fats A, at home this week to Shifnal A, found the Shifnal
team on their game, so to speak. Aaron O’Donnell started
well for the home side with a 59-44 win over T. Lloyd, but
in the next frame there it was a really close between Mick
Pearson and Chris Crook, but it was Chris who came out the
winner in the narrowest of margins, 47 to Chris and 43 to
Mick. The next frame saw the very useful player, Dale Blagborough,
step up to play Gaz Lloyd. Dale had only lost one frame so
far this season, and kept his record intact with a comfortable
win over Chris. Mick Egan didn’t fare so well when he
played “Beamer” Steve Jones. With Steve winning
this one to set up the decider between Phil Bufton and Ian
Postins. This could have been a black ball finish, but it’s
always difficult to assume this from the card unless it is
mentioned! However this point went to the Shifnal A side,
and looked like a final ball finish, who knows? That score
line, 61-49 to Ian.
Bayley B met up with the Maddocks B side at the Wellington
club this week, and in the first frame it was Tom Mulholland
to play Wally Harper. Wally got the win in this one to put
his side into the lead. Doug Morrey added a second point for
the Maddocks side with a close win over Kev West, but in the
next, Danny Oliver, always one hundred percent concentration,
played John Archer. In this frame it was Danny who came out
the winner. Richard Bedall, back to form of late, was next
on against Geoff Tudor, and Richard won this one comfortably.
So to a decider, and in the last Craig Baugh for Bayley was
drawn to play Roy Adams. Craig came out of this one with a
win for his side to take a 3-2 victory.
Coddon C, mid table, were the home side in their match with
LDS C. A very close opening frame with home player Mark Tusel
coming up against Joe Rixom. The final score in this was 50
for Mark, 52-for Joe, Joe giving his a side an early away
point. Pete Randall made it 2-0 as he beat Garry Owen. Daniel
Ballard was next to the table and in a high scoring frame,
Daniel turned the tables for the home side and produced a
63-51 win over John Calvert. Matt Bothwell carried on in the
same mode, levelling the score when he played Carl Kesterton.
The decider was fought out between Ollie Wall and Gary Walls,
but it was Gary for LDS C who took the win for the Dawley
side.
Maddocks D will be well pleased with their victory over the
Second Club A side, who suffered a 4-1 defeat. The first frame
looked a cracker according to the score card, with Graham
Arnold playing Ian Ferriday. That score line was Graham 80,
and Ian 72. Ian Courtney added the second for Maddocks with
a win over Paul Crooks. Cheryl Caswell then defeated Mike
Thompson, and Maddocks were 3-0 up, and flying, however, in
the next frame, a very low scoring frame, Toby Welsh pulled
one back for the Second Club. That was to be the only point
of the evening for the Trench side as Fred Spragg returned
Maddocks to winning ways with a win when he played Dave Welsh.
Third Division
Hadley B have now pulled six points clear at the top of this
division, and this week the result was 4-1 to the Hadley side.
Ken Booty scored 63 to Graham Neilds 3, to set Hadley off
to the first win. Kevin Whitehead had an equally impressive
score line playing Mokesh Lal for the second point, and in
the next it was John Wright beating Brian Macmillan to make
it 3-0. Darren Pountney added the fourth playing Mark Ebdon,
but Dean Hatton for the Coddon did get a solitary point for
Coddon, and having a 25 break when he beat D. Smout.
LDS B lost a little more ground on the leaders this week
although gaining a match win on home ground. This week LDS
B played hosts to Bayley D who entered this division this
season. Ritchie Heighway started the match with a win for
the home side playing Brian Aberdeen, but in the next Dave
Dudley levelled the scores with a win over Pete Clarke. It
was Bayley who gained the upper hand in the next frame as
Sam Drake came up against Dave Williams. Dave won this one
for his side to go 2-1 up. It was Mark Randall’s turn
to win a frame next, and this he did to take the match to
a decider beating Mark Beddall from Bayley. In the deciding
frame Colin Gittus won frame, and match, getting the better
of Jim Lewis.
Dawley C and Anstice B were drawn against each other this
week at the Dawley venue. These teams are on level points
after this weeks result. Luke Edwards played the first frame
with Noel Stones, and Noel had an easy win over Luke, with
a 32 break during the frame. Sean Cross for Dawley went one
better in his frame with John Darrock, with a 45 break on
the way to beating john. Andy Shaw lost his frame when he
played George Hammond. And that frame put Anstice into a 2-1
lead. Chris Gifford then put the ball back into Dawley’s
court when he beat Mick Cahill. In the last frame it was Jamie
Mills who played Billy Watson to decide who won this match.
This was a great win for Jamie with a 64-1 score line over
Billy.
Shifnal D are one point above Hadley A who were their adversaries’
this week, at the Shifnal club. Shifnal D got didn’t
get the start they would have liked, as “Tugboat”
Richard Benting, defeated Geoff French in the first frame
to give his team mates a 1-0 lead. Terry Askew made amends
for that defeat with a win over Roy Francis, and in the next,
his team mate, Sanjay Chauhan made it 2-1 to Shifnal with
a comprehensive victory over Tony Morgan. Pete Wharton added
the third point, and match win for Shifnal with a win over
Al Francis. Arthur Aston came up against Iain Atkinson in
the last, and it was Iain, playing well so far this campaign,
who gained the second point for the Hadley A side, who are
nicely placed mid table, and enjoying a good season so far
to date.
Second Club B, who are rooted to the bottom of the division,
were at home this week to the new entrants of our league,
Allscott. Alan Kynaston opened the match when he played Kev
Welland, and it was Kevin who returned to winning ways this
week, and so gave his team a 1-0 lead in the match. Kev’s
team mate, Steve Powell, currently holding the highest break
in the division, made it 2-0 with a win over Nick Holmes.
The next frame was very close, but in this one it was Chris
Coterhill from the Second Club who breathed life into his
team when He beat Dave Finney 57-48. Roger Smith for the Second
Club continued the revival with a victory over Nick Gwynne,
and thereby setting up a decider for the match win. Another
close frame followed, and this was fought out between Keith
Mears from the Second Club, and he played Jason Allen. The
score line in this was 48 to Jason, and 37 to Keith, so another
win for the Allscott team, 3-2.
The last match reported, is the one between Bayley Q, playing
from home, and their opponents were Newport B. These two teams
are marginally above the aforementioned Second Club B. The
home side started with Chris Fletcher losing out to Colin
Farge, but Chris Durham restored the balance in the next frame
when he played Allan Davies. Chris Bates for the Bayley club
won a close fought frame against Richard Goldie to give his
side a 2-1 lead. Steve Yapp made no mistake in giving his
side the match win when he beat Andrew Fletcher, and in the
last frame, Richard Tranter made the score line respectable
with a win over Steve Speake.
