Match Report - 16th September 2009

Anstice B have started the season well, and in this weeks match they recorded a 4-1 win at home to Coddon B. Some close frames in this match as the first frame went to Stu Wimbush against Brian McMillan, 50-42. Even closer the next with Mick Cahill 44, and Dave Lloyd junior 41. The usually steady Noel Stones then suffered a defeat at the hands of Mokesh Lal, with Mokesh taking that frame 75-36. Yet another close, and high scoring frame next, with George Hammond beating Roger Lewis 75-65. Billy Watson took the last frame against Graham Nield, 53-16.

Dawley C have also started well in their campaign, and this week saw them register a 4-1 win, when new team Allscott visited the Dawley side. Sean Cross won the first playing Dave Finney, but Steve Powell restored the balance by beating Neil Davis. In a close frame Chris Gifford then beat Jason Allen 54-43. It was Andy who sank it to take Dawley into a 3-1 lead. The last frame was a comfortable victory for Luke Edwards as he beat Aaron Griffiths 51-10.

First Division

Although we are having postal problems at the moment, I would prefer to try and keep up to date with the reports when I can, which means there may be more than the usual amount of teams not mentioned.

Coddon A played the league winners this week, Shifnal B, at the Coddon club. Tony Garmson gave the home side a good start when he beat Aaron Sparkes in the first frame of the evening. However, that was as far as it went with, Angus Way beating Andy Jones, followed by Matt Davies with a 64 break, and a comfortable win over Mark Wall. The fourth frame was a lot closer, with Lindsay Knox for Shifnal, just getting the better of Steve Downes, 63-55. Dave Lloyd then lost to John Fallows in the last frame, 67-27.

Shifnal F were the home side in the encounter with Anstice A this week, and the Shifnal side have yet to find form losing this match 4-1, the same result as last week. Home player John Briscoe came up against Ian Duffy, who had a 64 break in his last match. Ian won this frame 52-21. Chris Painter then played Keith Price, with Keith having a 38 break on the way to his 73-21 win. Roy Martin was next up for Shifnal, and he suffered the same fate going down to Craig Reynolds, 63-16. Rob Wright was then defeated by Neil Price 54-15, but in the final frame Chris Petford won a consolation point with a victory over Simon Yeates, 68-22.

Broseley met Maddocks A at Broseley, and they found the Maddocks side to strong in this encounter, losing match 4-1. A good start to the season for Maddocks then; could this be their year? John Banks opened the match, and Broseley started by winning the first frame, John banks 70, Leigh France 35. Ian Eldridge the beat Mick Brezwyn to level the scores, and the next frame between Graeme Long and Ian Skelton ended with a narrow win for Ian, 57-55. Phil Davies made it 3-1 when he beat Simon McLeod, and in the final frame, ex-professional, Gary Wilkinson beat new signing, S. Shakespeare 70-5, getting a 47 break during his win.

Second Division

Dawley B, at home to the Coddon C team this week, fared slightly better than last weeks result, and took two points from the Coddon lads. Grant Heighway lost the first frame to Daniel Ballard, with Tom White for Dawley following suit. Tom lost to Matt Bothwell. The wining streak continued for the Coddon team with Gary Owen beating Nigel Brazenell. The tide started to turn a little after that, as Barry Roden got the better of Mark Tusel to get one back for Dawley. Liam Goodman doubled Dawley’s tally for the evening with a comfortable win over Ollie Wall.
