Team knockout final / Consolation cup final (Telford and
District Amateur Snooker league - sponsored by Hardy Tyres).
Both held at the Coddon sports and social club. Bayley B v
Shifnal A no report card, Bayley B ran out the winners in
a very competitive match, congratulations to all the players
concerned.
Anstice A (40) v Hadley B (100), Hadley fresh from their
overwhelming title win in Division 3 faced an Anstice side
who narrowly missed out on the Division 1 top spot, the Madeley
side began well, with N Price facing K Booty, with both players
in superb form this was going to be a cracker and so it proved,
both matching each other shot for shot, Neil took the advantage
early on and never relented, taking it 72-46, frame 2 C Reynolds
v J Wright, yet again it was the Anstice player who started
well, knocking in some great shots to take an early lead,
John responded well with some good pots and safety of his
own, but Craig finished with a colours clearance to win 90-42,
frame 3 K Price V D Pountney, these two were on the same side
the season before, so this was going to be a very tight frame,
with both players showing each other the respect their deserve
and so it proved in the score 58-57, frame 4 I Duffy V K Whitehead,
this was probably the turning point in the match as things
were quite evenly matched at this stage, Ian though produced
some brilliant snooker, not only with his long potting, but
great safety too, he never gave his opponent a chance and
took the frame 116-1, leaving the Hadley team with an uphill
struggle in the last, which was between S Harris & M Bailey,
two very good players on their night, but with Ian winning
so convincingly in the previous frame, Shaun only had to keep
Matt at bay to secure another Team Knockout cup, eventually
taking the frame 66-25, well done to the Anstice team on yet
another great season.
Other competition results:
Trebles: A Sparkes/N Stallard/M Davies v
K Price/N Price/I Duffy, both winners of this competition
in the last few years this was going to be a tight match,
in the first A Sparkes faced one of the seasons in form players
K Price, in the early stages Aaron took the advantage with
some neat potting giving him an early 20 point advantage,
Keith responded well with some good pots of his own, then
with the last red up and Keith 22 behind, he laid a great
snooker which gave him 20 points, leaving him only 2 behind,
but a determined Aaron potted the last red and cleared the
colours to give his side a 37 lead going into the next, where
Matt Davies faced N Price, Matt started in fine form knocking
in some great pots, including a forty plus break, leaving
Neil few opportunities eventually taking the frame 96-6, leaving
N Stallard 127 up going into the last against I Duffy, although
Ian started the frame with an impressive 44 break, Nigel responded
by potting a couple of small breaks to safely see the Shifnal
lads regain the title they won a couple of years ago.
Chris Ward: Matt Davies v Tom Maxfield,
these two faced each other in the Shropshire Star county knockout
where Matt won 4-0, this turned out to be a cracker of re-match,
both players in great form, frame 1 Matt knocked in fantastic
76 to go one up, in frame 2 Matt knocked in another superb
59 before breaking down, Tom responded with two breaks of
his own of 22 and 41 to make it one all, Tom then went 2-1
with breaks of 22 and 25 to win 71-63, and in a match swinging
one way then the other, it was Matt who too the next two frames
63-26 and 56-8 to go 3-2 up, with Tom clinging on in frame
six after Matt knocked in breaks of 23 and 27 to take an early
lead, Tom got himself back into the frame and ultimately the
match by winning on a re-spotted black to make it level, with
all to play for in the decider, things looked very good for
Tom as he knocked in a 52 break to put him 30 up with only
27 left, then misfortune as Tom playing a safety on the yellow,
double kissed and went in off, leaving Matt 26 behind, Matt
then did what we have seen him so often, he cleared with a
very good 27 under pressure to snatch the frame and the Chris
Ward Individual 4-3.
