Matt Davies knocks in a super 131 to put holders through
to next round.
Team knockout 1st round (sponsored by Chris Hardy Tyres).
Starting at Shifnal with the holders Shifnal B playing in
a local derby against the D side and what an explosive start,
With Matt Davies playing T Askew, with T breaking off, which
turned out to be his only shot of the game, as Matt sunk a
brilliant first red to start his break, then when he reached
41, he took on a difficult brown, but sunk it with aplomb
and split the remaining reds to carry his break on, the last
difficult red was on the cushion and he gained great position
from potting the blue, to sink the last red and after potting
the pink, he sank the remaining colours to record a brilliant
131 break, it was a tough act to follow for J Fallows and
S Chauhan, both playing well but John running out the winner
72-24 in frame 3 there was a great performance from P Wharton
for the D side, as he out-potted the young gun A Sparkes by
76-62, frame 4 say L Knox keeping up his seasons good form
with a 76-39 win over G French, A Way then sealed the holders
path into round 2 with a 69-25 win over B Easthope. In the
match between Shifnal A and Bayley E it turned out to be a
tight affair, in the first A O’Brien beat R Davies 55-47,
then 2 great wins in the next for Bayley E from D Beyer v
M Ainsworth 87-14, D France v M Jones 91-49, the fight back
began with S Jones defeating J Squire 49-45, leaving a tense
affair in the last with A Jones potting the final pink to
secure the win against I Postans 63-55. the Anstice the B
team took on Dawley C, with the scores level, the match couldn’t
of started any better, with a draw M Cahill 57-57 C Gifford,
frame 2 saw J Darrock beat L Edwards 58-33 and it was good
win the next N Stones 89 (38 break) N Davis 29 (21 break),
frame 4 saw the old timer G Hammond put his side further in
command 47-39 A Shaw, leaving J Mills too much to do in the
last, as he defeated B Watson 44-41. in the match between
Bayley D and Hadley B, it was the Hadley boys who came out
on top, K Booty started to pull back the 90 point deficit
with a win against D Dudley, in the next C Whitehead pulled
those back with a win against D Smout, frames 3 and 4 saw
J Wright and M Bailey pull 51 points back, leaving Hadley
42 behind, with ex div 1 player D Pountney going on last for
Hadley and knocking in a break of 44 to put his team through
to round 2. in the match Dawley B v Broseley A, the away side
had to pull back 95 on the handicap and G Long got going with
a superb 94-40 win over B Roden, in the next the trend continued
with N Caswell, potting brilliantly to outgun L Goodman 101-47
frame 3 was a tighter affair with W Weeks facing S McLeod,
Wayne started the better but Simon came back into the game,
knocking some great long pots in, to secure a 72-38 win, frame
4 M Brezwyn put his side into a commanding lead with a great
display 99-15 over N Brazenall, leaving the home player G
Heighway facing an uphill task, even though he beat J Banks
60-41, it was not enough to help his side through. At 2nd
club the A side faced Maddocks C, who are flying high in div
1, and it was D Wilkie who did the damage in the very first
frame defeating the league chairman 103-12, Daz knocking in
breaks of 27 and 64, to carry on his good seasons form, the
next 2 frames were tight G Hoof beating B Lane 36-31 and then
a fantastic win for the home team as T Welsh defeated I Cleary
60-42, but wins from M Wincott 68-26 over D Welsh and S Hassack
72-7 over N Robinson proved too good for the 2nd club lads.
