Maddocks D are flying, and this week was
no different as they romped to a 5-0 win at home to the Second
Club B side. Cheryl Caswell had a 24 break to open the match
and beat Alan Kynaston 58-5. Graham Arnold also had a 24 break
and beat his opponent Josh Wall 62-7. Tom Courtney added the
third point in another comprehensive win over Keith Mears.
Poor old second club had only compiled 15 points from the
first three frames! Fred Spragg continued in the same style,
this time a 55-20 point’s victory over C. Coterhill.
The last frame was much closer, but M. Ilyas was not to be
out done, as he made it a straight five for Maddocks, beating
R. Smith 47-39.
Little Dawley C lost ground in their match this week when
they played away at Shifnal D. Terry Askew had a 25 break
in the opening frame with Joe Rixom with a finishing score
line of 71-28. Another break in the second frame, again to
a Shifnal player, this time Sanjay Chauhan with a 23, and
a 64-27 win against Sam Hamilton. Yet another break in the
next frame of 22, but this time to the Dawley side, with John
Calvert beating Arthur Aston 56-9. The fourth frame was a
close affair but Geoff French got the better of Scott Bevan
44-34. An exciting finish to the match when Barrie Easthope,
playing Carl Kesterton took this frame on a re-spotted black,
Barrie 64, Carl 57.
Little Dawley B, currently at the bottom of the table, were
at home to Hadley A this week, and recorded a 3-2 win over
the Hadley side. Hadley started well with wins from Ken Booty
playing Steve Tranter, Ken winning this 51-5. The next frame
also went to Hadley, this time Kevin Whitehead with a 49-17
win playing Pete Clarke. After that the match went in the
opposite direction completely with the Dawley side taking
the next three frames and the match. Mark Randall gained an
easy victory over Richard Benting 55-1, followed by Colin
Gittus beating Allen Francis 54-39. In the last frame Dan
Soltys won a close frame against Iain Atkinson 54-50.
Bayley Q were at home to Newport A this week and raced into
a 3-0 lead with wins from Steve Weatherall 59, Graham Groucott
14, then Rob Cook with a 62-35 win over Chris Hughes. This
was followed by a good display from Chris Durham who had a
21 break during the frame, and a 22 clearance at the end of
the frame. This was against Andy Yates and that score Chris
57, Andy 40. So close to being another point for Bayley, but
in a high scoring game Paul Stokes took the next for Newport
64-56 in his frame with Chris Fletcher. Same again in the
last frame when Pete Smith got the better of Chris Bates.
First Division
Two top flight teams played each other this week, when Broseley,
at home, met up with Minnesota Fats B. Minnesota B, who are
currently in pole position, added more misery for the faltering
Broseley side, beating them 4-1. Carl Walker got Broseley
off to a winning start by beating Darren Pountney, but that
was as far as Broseleys challenge went. Keith Price took the
next from Graeme Long, followed by new signing, Craig Reynolds
taking the frame from Neil Caswell. In a closer game, Simon
Yeats beat Simon McLeod, and in the final frame the usually
steadfast Mick Brezwyn suffered a 50-6 loss to Ian Duffy.
Minnesota, with their new signings are looking good at the
moment.
Having said that, the Anstice lads are giving it a good go
so far, and this week at home to Bayley A, gained a 4-1 victory
over the Wellington side. Laki Badhan had a comfortable win
over Arthur Burrows, as did Mick Musgrave beating Spencer
Rowley. Bob Mason suffered the same fate, going down to Steve
Camp. Chris-Morgan Adams in a close game pulled one back for
Bayley, when he defeated Nigel Wallcroft. Neil Price made
sure of the last frame beating Maxwell Hodson. Four one to
Anstice.
With a score card missing from the Shifnal B side, it could
be quite close at the top of the table. Shifnal were away
to the Bayley E side who seem to be struggling to find early
season form yet again this season. Shifnal took this match
5-0 with not a close frame in sight.
Maddocks C will be well pleased with their 5-0 victory over
the Coddon C side, at the Maddocks club. A close affair the
first frame, with Darren Willkie getting the better of Matt
Bothwell 58-51, but the next frame was clear cut, Ian Cleary
64, Garry Owen 61. Graham Hoof then beat Mark Tusel, followed
by Steve Hassacks win over Mick Stokes. In the last frame
B. Wincott took the frame from Frazer MacKinnon to make it
a clean sweep.
Coddon A, newly promoted as are Coddon C, are also still
finding their feet in this division, although their 3-2 defeat
at the hands of Dawley A was not a bad result. Coddon, who
were at home, lost the first frame with Sean Nolan racking
up a 93-7 win over Steve Downes. The next frame could not
have been closer, and in a high scoring game, Mark Wall beat
Pete Nolan 59-58. Andy Jones took the next, beating Liam Goodman,
with Mark Jones levelling the match for Dawley when he defeated
Nick Pearce. In the last frame, playing his second fame of
the season, Rick Bailey took the match for Dawley with a 55-48
win over Tony Garmson.
Second Division
Shifnal F continued their winning run with a 3/2 victory
over LDS. In a closely fought frame an unlucky in-off on the
blue by R Withington was the turning point as Chris Painter
capitalized by winning 61-40. S Copson levelled the match
with some good long potting in defeating John Bristow 59-26.
In another tight frame, following several shots at the black,
G Wiley prevailed and edged out an "out of sorts"
and luckless Rob Wright to put the visitors ahead. Roy Martin
was fortunate in fluking a snooker on the blue against R Lenevev
but this shouldn't deflect from good pots on the blue and
pink to tie the match at 2-2. In the decider Chris Petford
continued his unbeaten record this season with a well taken
run of 39 in his 70-14 defeat of T Bell.

With no card in from Dawley B and Audco C having a bye, the
next team in the table, Bayley B were at home to Shifnal A.
The Bayley lads won this match 3-2. C. Baugh took the first
for Bayley against R. Davies, with K. McLeod adding the second
when he beat G. Lloyd. C. Bristow then beat M. Francis to
start a revival, but that didn’t last long as the useful
Dan Oliver won the match for Bayley with a 46-14 win over
M. Jones. In the last frame C. Crook got Shifnals second point
of the evening with a 48-38 win over Kevin West.
Second Club A, although with home advantage lost their match
with the Bayley D side 3-2. Bayley D who haven’t really
started playing this season yet, started with a win in the
opening frame courtesy of Dave Dudley who beat Tom Firmstone
51-28. Ian Ferriday made it one each beating Brian Aberdeen,
then Mark Bedall for the Bayley lads made it 2-1 beating Mark
Thompson. Dave Williams made sure of the match win with a
comfortable victory over Toby Welsh 62-18, before Neil Robinson
gained the last and second point for the Trench side. That
score Neil 52, Daz Rhodes 37.
Minnesota Fats A, mid table, were at home to the Maddocks
B side. The Maddocks B side were in fine form, and won this
match 4-1. Wally Harper won his frame with Mick Pearson 53-33,
with Les Hicks adding to the total with a narrow victory over
Matthew Kilvert, 45-44. Neil Pearson pulled one back for Minnesota
when he beat Doug Morrey, but there was to be no comeback
as John Archer, who will be relieved to get his first win
under his belt, and Roy Adams made it 4-1, John beating Mick
Egan 56-28, and Roy in a close frame beating Phil Bufton 45-41.
