There was no report last week due the author being on holiday!
However, snooker, like life, goes on, although fading a little
more each season. Not the case with Minnesota Fats B though
this season. With a little new blood in their team, and after
last weeks 4-1 win away to the Bayley A side, this week saw
the Minnesota Fats B team go one better, with a 5-0 victory
at home to newly promoted Coddon C. looking at the scorecard
the result never looked in danger, and Min B are two points
in front of the Shifnal B. at the top of the table.
Shifnal B, played very well against Anstice A last week at
home, gaining a hard fought 3-2 win, with breaks of 47 from
Keith Uzzell against Steve Camp, and Matt Davies with breaks
of 57 and 34 in his frame with Laki Badhan. Shifnal were away
to the Coddon A side this week and came a way with a 4-1 result.
Once again another break for Matt Davies, this time a 53 playing
Andy Jones. The last frame will have pleased Steve Downes
who beat Angus Way whose form has been terrific at the start
of this season, that score line, 64-56 to Steve.
Meanwhile the Anstice A side afore-mentioned were at home
to Maddocks A and produced a very good result beating the
Maddocks A side 4-1. Phil Davis in very good form, was the
only winner for the Maddocks side recording a 40 break in
his match with Steve Camp. Nigel Wallcroft made a nice 57
break in his frame against Ian Eldridge but unfortunately
it looked like Maddocks were firing blanks on this particular
evening.
Little Dawley A, who last week beat the Coddon A side 3-2
at home, were away to the Bayley E side. This week saw the
Little Dawley side record a 4-1 win to see them in third spot
in this division. Little Dawley looked to have won this match
comfortably and in the past two weeks Jesse Lowe must have
felt very unlucky losing his last two matches by a few points
in high scoring games!
Broseley must have been wondering when their season was due
to start after losing nine out of ten points in the two opening
matches, but in last weeks match there was a sign of revival
as they beat the Dawley A side 4-1 at Dawley. This week’s
match was at home to a difficult Bayley A side, and this result
was 3-2 to Broseley. Simon McLeod had a 46 break against Arthur
Burrows but this was topped by Mick Brezwyn who seems to have
taken a new lease on life out on snooker this season, with
a 71 break. Mick beat Steve Fletcher 87-31, no mean feat.
Second Division
Audco C have taken this division by storm and after a 4-1
win away to Maddocks B last week were entertaining the Bayley
D side at home. Although Craig Whitehead from the Bayley side
gave Anthony Heathcote a close game, with the score 53-43
to Anthony.
Dawley B were at home to the Maddocks B side with the Dawley
side winning a deciding frame when Alex Jones beat John Archer
82-13. Winners from the Maddocks side were two players I grew
up with Les Hicks and Doug Morrey. Nice to see them still
using the old table craft which they taught me when I used
to shell out shillings to them!
Just two cards in from the second division this week!!!
Third Division
Maddocks D, still on a roll after their recent 4-1 win over
the Hadley A side maintained that form to record the same
result again this week, this time at home to the Anstice B
side. Noel Stones again opened the scoring for Anstice with
a 46-1 victory over Ken Davies, but of the old school players
that he his playing with; Noel seems to be the only one showing
any form, as the next four frames went to the Maddocks side.
Mick Cahill had a 23 break but still lost to Graham Arnold,
73-32. Cheryl Caswel had a 22 break in her win over Steve
Smallwood, obviously enjoying her snooker in this, her second
season.
Little Dawley C have collected five points over the last
two weeks, and in their latest match at home to the Second
Club B side, they lost 3-2. The match was level after four
frames and the decider saw Keith Mears take on new player
to our league, John Calvert. Keith came out on top in this
frame for the Trench side, winning a low scoring game 35-26
to gain victory for the Trench men.
Bayley Q were at home to the Hadley A side, both teams being
familiar as they used to play from the same club, which has
sadly been closed for a few years now. Kevin Whitehead got
the Hadley side off to a good start beating Steve Weatherall
and having a 41 break during the match. That was followed
by Ken Booty, also from Hadley chalking up the next win against
Rob Cook. Ken also had a break of 20. Chris Bates hit back
for the Bayley lads to beat Danny Francis, with Chris Fletcher
nearly following that result up, but just losing out to Richard
Benting 47-44. The last frame went to Iain Atkinson who made
it 4-1 to the Hadley side. Could this be Hadley’s year?
Newport British legion B had a good 4-1 win over the little
Dawley B side, who were visiting Newport. The Little Dawley
side didn’t get their first frame win until the third
game when Colin Gittus got the better of newcomer M. Revitt
51-35. After that S. Speake and Les Stirling made it a comfortable
4-1 to the Newport side, and are now on level pegging with
their Newport A side.
Thanks to all who sent reports in, although I didn’t
get time to paste them due to two weeks tables to compile?
Please continue to send them as the next time I am away I
will compile a two week report in one.
