There will be no report for next week’s snooker,
as I am away, but the report after that will combine reports
for both weeks. After the divisional knockouts last week,
the league got back into action as normal.
Current leaders of division one, Minnesota Fats B, were at
home to the Bayley A side who gave them a good run for their
money. Ian Duffy and Keith Price gave the Minnesota team a
two frame lead, but the Bayley side came back with wins from
Ali Jones and Dave France to set up a decider between Simon
Yeates and John Squire. Simon took this frame for the match
win, 3-2 to Min. B.
Dawley A, at home to Anstice A side, lost this match 3-2,
and at present the Anstice lads have second spot with the
results that are in.
Bayley A were at home to the Maddocks C team, and in a close
encounter beat the Maddocks side 3-2. Darren Wilkie had a
32 break in his win over Spencer Rowley
Coddon A although losing their home match against the Broseley
A side 3-2, will probably be well pleased with the result.
John Banks playing Matt Bothwell in the last frame, made a
good 38 break, but still lost the frame 65-56 to Matt.
Second Division
With byes, and lack of score cards in this week, the table
shows the Dawley B side at the top of division two. The Dawley
B lads were away to the hapless Bayley D side. The Bayley
D haven’t got their act together at all yet, and this
week was no different as they lost 4-1. Craig whitehead came
close to getting a second point for Bayley, but just lost
out to Grant Heighway 49-40. I happened to look over to that
match in progress, and thought Johnny Cash had appeared, but
it was my mate, Don Pugh, who incidentally was the losing
player for Dawley.
Little Dawley G had a cracking match with the Bayley B side,
with four of the five frames decided on the black ball. Tommy
Bell took the first 59-48 against Craig Baugh, followed by
Rob Withington who beat D. Stones 46-44. Graham Wiley won
his frame for little Dawley easily before Graham Copson took
another black ball game, 50-48, playing Richard Bedall. Finally,
Roy Levenue added to the excitement of the evening beating
Kev West 62-55.
Minnesota Fats A were away to Shifnal, and came back with
four of the five points on offer. Neil and Mick Pearson had
comprehensive wins, Neil over Mark Wordsell and Mick over
Tony Lloyd. Kirk Stevenson was also a comfortable winner,
but Mick Egan lost the only point of the evening when he was
defeated by Chris Bristow, 53-19. The last frame was close
with Phil Bufton getting the better of Chris Cook 54-40.
Second Club A are mid table, and they took the short trip
to play the Maddocks B team. Wally Harper for the home side,
lost to Ian Ferriday in a high scoring game, 62-41, with Tom
Firmstone, for the second club, adding another point by beating
Les Hicks. Doug Morrey pulled one back for Maddocks beating
Bob Lane, but then Toby Welch won the match for the Second
Club when he beat John Archer. Steve Pritchard took the last
frame with a comfortable win over Paul Crooks.
Third Division
Maddocks D are still on top of this division in spite of
a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Newport A. Newport were at home,
and this match went to the wire after being tied 2-2. In the
decider Andy Yates played Cheryl Caswell and won the deciding
frame 62-43.
Little Dawley C meanwhile, were entertaining the Newport
B side, which went much the same way except in this instance
the deciding frame went to Little Dawley for a 3-2 win, when
Carl Kesterton beat Les Stirling 54-28.
Anstice B fared much better than of late, and in their home
match with the Bayley Q side returned a 4-1 result. Chris
Bates for Bayley, gave the Bayley lads the first win of the
night beating Steve Smallwood 41-26. Chris Fletcher did his
best to make it 2-0 but that score ended 46-45 in favour of
Mick Cahill. After that game the remaining wins were quite
comfortable for the Anstice team.
Second Club B are not too far off the pace after their good
4-1 win over Shifnal D. After the first two frames it was
1-1, but home player Keith Mears for the Second Club, took
the third in a close game 50-41, playing Arthur Aston. Another
close match followed with A. Kynaston beating Geoff French
49-36. The last frame saw R. Smith defeat Barrie Easthope
54-47, yet another close game.
My thanks to everyone who turned up at the presentation evening,
and many thanks to our sponsor Chris Hardy who presented the
prizes. Well done to the committee who do so much to organize
the event, and to Angus Way for his help on the evening.
