There were very few cards delivered on time for the snooker
report lat week-end, so I decided to hold over the report
for a week. It is not always the teams fault as the post is
so haphazard. Anyway, better to have a full report later than
some of the skimpy ones that are becoming par for the course.
I would ask the teams if they could make an effort to put
their team names on the card, and also, the names of the participating
players, as last week one card arrived with the scores, but
no names to say who had won! So, back to the report.
Third Division
Maddocks D have a very comfortable lead now at the top of
the table, and this weeks result consolidated that position
when they beat Newport B 4-1 at Maddocks. The home side went
into a 4-0 lead with Ian Courtney, who leads the averages
at present beating Richard Goldie with a 28 break during the
frame. The last frame was the only point for Newport and this
was taken by Les Stirling who beat Cheryl Caswell 67-18.
Anstice B, who are going well at the moment, were surprised
by Hadley A when the Hadley side visited them this week. New
signing P. Smout won the first frame for the visitors, and
a second was added by Richard Benting to give Hadley a 2-0
lead. It didn’t stop there however, as Ken Booty made
it 3-0 with a great win over Noel Stones 69-16. The last two
frames were taken by Anstice when George Hammond beat Al Francis,
and then team mate Billy Watson getting the better of Iain
Atkinson 58-40.
Newport A are on level points with Anstice after a comprehensive
5-0 win at home to Little Dawley D. Chris Hughes took the
first point from Luke Edwards 57-40, but the next frame between
Geoff Groucott and Andy Shaw was very close, with Geoff winning
41-40. Equally close the next, when Alex Turnbull got the
better of Chris Gifford 56-49. Andy Yates made it 4-0 with
yet another close scoring frame, this time 49-39 to Andy.
In the last frame Pete Smith made it a clean sweep beating
Allan Smallwood 50-35.
Apart from Little Dawley B, who are bottom of the division,
the four teams above them are all on the same points, one
of these teams being Second Club B, who this week played Little
Dawley B at the Trench club. Second club went into a 3-0 lead
before Ginnette Gittus beat Nick Holmes 56-43, followed by
Colin Gittus just beating Josh Wall 41-40. The Gittus family
seem to have a winning formula of their own; they just need
to pass it on to the rest of the team.
Shifnal D at home to Bayley Q lost this match 3-2, a good
win for the Bayley lads. Robert Cook gained the first win
over Terry Askew 45-16, but Sanjay Chauhan hit back to level
the match playing Chris Durham. That score 63-10 to Sanjay.
The next frame saw Peter Wharton win 80-56 in a high scoring
frame against Steve Weatherall, and having a 23 break during
the frame. Richard Tranter set up the decider by beating Arthur
Aston, and Chris Bates duly obliged for the Bayley and won
the decider comfortably, playing Barrie Easthope, 60-15.
First Division
Minnesota Fats B still lead the way in division one, but
what a game fight the Coddon A side produced when they visited
the current leaders. Keith Price played the first frame against
Tony Garmson, and set out the stall so to speak. Keith is
on fire at the moment and made a superb break of 70 against
Tony, and winning by 91-7. Craig Reynolds made it two beating
Mark Wall, before Ian Duffy stepped into the fray and also
won, this time playing Nick Pearce. Ian had breaks of 34 and
41 during that frame. In the next frame however, the usually
steadfast Simon Yeates went down to Steve Downes 69-48, and
in the last game of the evening Andy Jones defeated Darren
Pountney to make it a good result indeed for the Coddon lads.
More displays like this will get the Coddon team settled in
first division I’m sure.
Bayley A were at home to Shifnal B and could have done without
this result as they went down to Shifnal 5-0, which puts them
into a relegation battle now! Kevin Uzzel had breaks of 24
and 26 when he beat Steve Nichols, but the next match was
a lot closer with Chris Morgan-Adams losing out to Aaron Sparkes
74-61. Steve Fletcher didn’t get too many chances from
Matt Davies and lost that frame 64-18. Spencer Rowley played
Angus Way and from where I was standing, seemed to have missed
a lot of good opportunities to win his frame, but Angus took
it 52-36. The last frame saw super sub, Nigel Stallard complete
the rout with a 56-28 win over Maxwell Hodson.
Little Dawley A made the trip to the Coddon C side, who are
finding it quite a task to compete in this division at the
moment. Little Dawley took this match without a serious challenge,
4-1, although Frasier Mackinnon won his frame against the
very experienced Jesse Lowe in a high scoring frame, 68-50.
Maddocks C, at home to the Bayley E side, may have thought
this match might not be too difficult in view of the poor
form showed of late by the Bayley E side. This was not to
be though as the Bayley E side came to life after a comatose
start to the season. Andy O, Brien got Bayley off to a win
beating Darren Wilkie 56-13. D. Beyer them had a good win
over Stu Hassack before Graham Hoof pulled one back beating
Dave France 41-26. The next frame saw Ian Cleary lose to Ali
Jones by 67-11. Joe Oliver then stepped up to make the score
more respectable with his victory over John Squires, always
a tough competitor to beat, 53-30.
Dawley A were at home to the Maddocks A side, and lost this
match 3-2. Liam Goodman lost the first frame to Ian Eldridge
who is in good from at present. Ian recorded breaks of 30
and 53 in his 102-15 win over Liam. Sean Nolan replied to
that frame with a comprehensive victory over Phil Davies,
who is a lot better than this score line intimates, but Phil
is well out of form at the moment. Take nothing from Sean
though with a nice 36 break and a 72-1 final score. Rick Bailey
has been playing well in his return to the league and although
putting up a good fight went down 60-39 to Ian Skelton. Leigh
France for Maddocks won a tight frame 60-53 when he played
Pete Nolan. In the last frame Mark Jones made the final score
3-2 beating Dave France.
Second Division
Little Dawley G still remain at the top of this division
and this week they were at home to The Second Club A side.
Ian Ferriday put the Trench side one up in a close frame with
Tommy Bell, and Paul Crooks made it 2-0, Graham Wiley losing
that frame. In the third frame Roy Levenue beat Toby Welsh
with Graham Copson for Little Dawley levelling the match and
having a 35 break during his victory over Mike Thompson. The
deciding frame was a close fought frame between Rob Withington
and Bob Lane with Bob winning 68-56, the first match lost
this season by Little Dawley G.
Shifnal F, at home to Dawley B lost the first frame of the
evening to Dawley with Grant Heighway beating John Briscoe
53-51. That was as far as Dawley got on the night though,
with Shifnal recording an easy 4-1 result. In the last frame
Chris Petford made a nice 46 break against Alex Jones winning
by 79-7.
The Audco C team played Bayley B at Audco this week, and
this match was a 3-2 win for the Audco side. After a galloping
start, Audco seemed to have slowed a little, but are putting
the wins back together again. Paul Trevor beat Chris Baugh
53-21 in the first frame, with Paul Proctor taking the second
against Kevin Mcleod. Anthony Heathcote then lost to Dan Oliver,
who is still maintaining his good form, and then in the fourth
frame John Williams for Audco made a nice 45 break in his
frame with Richard Bedall, that score 86-6. In the last frame
Roger Lewis lost 66-7 to ?? No name on the card!.
Bayley D, at the foot of this division, were at home to Maddocks
B, and the Bayley boys lost this match 3-2. Les Hicks, in
good form started with a win for Maddocks beating Jim Lewis,
with Wally Harper adding a second for Maddocks against Dave
Williams. Craig Whitehead stopped the rot with a win in a
very high scoring game with Doug Morrey, 84-60. Daz Rhodes
made it two each, beating John Archer to set up the decider.
Marc Bedall lost this frame to Roy Adams 49-27 for Maddocks
to take the spoils.
Bayley F have a little gap between them selves, and second
from bottom Shifnal A, who they played this week at the Bayley
club. This match went to a decider with Chris Crooks hardly
putting a foot wrong in the decider. Chris also had a 32 break
in his win over Graham Darrell to take this match 3-2.
There are still some results outstanding so if anyone could
get them to me I will add them to the table next time.
