Happy New Year to all who read the reports, and hope you
all had a good Christmas. My first match report of the New
Year, Minnesota B at home to Maddocks A. The Min B side are
still leading the table by one point, and this week the Min
B team had a 4-1 win over the Maddocks A side. Keith Price
took the first frame beating new signing D. Millward, but
Ian Eldridge levelled the scores when he defeated Darren Weston.
Darren doesn’t seem to have played to his normal form
this season! Sean Harris made a return to the scene and he
got the better of Ian Skelton to make it 2-1. The next frame
saw the highest break of the season so far when Craig Reynolds
made a superb 93 break playing Dave France. The last frame
saw Darren Pountney take the fourth and final point against
Leigh France.
Anstice A are just one point behind the leaders, but unfortunately
their five nil victory had to be claimed, as the Coddon A
side didn’t field a side.
The only other result in from this division, was from Coddon
C who are still to win a match this season. Coddon C were
at home to Dawley B and the Coddon side fought well to take
the match to a decider, only to see the experienced Rick Bailey
beat their last player, Mick Stokes, 50-20.
Second Division
Little Dawley G continue their winning streak and this week
they were pitted against the Maddocks B side at Little Dawley.
The match started evenly enough with G. Clements defeating
Wally Harper. Wally’s team mate, Les Hicks, then making
the score even after he beat the useful Roy Levenue. However,
that was the end of the Maddocks challenge as the next three
frames were taken by Little Dawley G to maintain their impetus
at the top.
Audco C were at home to Minnesota Fats A this week, and won
this match 3-2. Mick Pink made a rare appearance for the Audco
side, and had a comprehensive win over his opponent, Kirk
Stevenson in a high scoring frame which saw Mick knock in
a 30 break during the frame. Anthony Heathcoat made it two
for the Audco lads with Paul Proctor adding a third. Roger
Lewis then lost his frame to Min Fats player, Mick Egan, before
the last frame, which also went to Min Fats courtesy of Phil
Bufton beating Andy Lycett. Third place now for Audco, but
I think they will still be figuring for the honours at the
end of the season.
Dawley B have a good run going, and they managed a 3-2 win
over the Second Club A side at Dawley. The Dawley lads had
to make a quick couple of signings to enable them to play
their match, and this they did, so credit to them. The match
was played at the Dawley club and the first new signing, Tom
White lost to Ian Ferriday, hard to beat at anytime. The second
new signing, making his debut for the Dawley team, but not
without snooker experience, was Alex Nolan, and he beat Paul
Crooks to level the score. Grant Heighway lost his frame,
first loss for three weeks, when Bob Lane took that frame.
Barry Roden set up the decider after winning his frame with
Dave Welsh, with the decider won for Dawley by Alex Jones
against Toby Welsh.
Shifnal F and Shifnal A, at opposite ends of the table were
matched together in this weeks fixtures, and it was the team
nearer the top, Shifnal F, who came out on top in this match.
Rob Wright opened up the assault on the Shifnal A side beating
Chris Bristow, with Chris Painter adding the second and recording
a 31 break in his frame. The next frame was very close but
G. Lloyd for Shifnal A, just got the better of Fred Harper
67-53 in a high scoring frame. Roy Martin and Dave Peplow
took the fourth and fifth frames to make it 4-1 overall score
for Shifnal F keeping the pressure on leaders L.D.S.G.
Third Division
Maddocks D increased their lead at the top this week with
another 4-1 result, this time at home to the Little Dawley
B side. Maddocks raced into a three frame lead courtesy of
Ian Courtney, Graham Arnold and Ken Davies, but Colin Gittus
clawed a point back from Cheryl Caswell whose form has dipped
a little of late. Fred Spragg added the last point to the
tally to make it 4-1 to Maddocks D.
The Second Club B were at home to the second in the table,
Antice B. The frames were very close in this match except
for one of the score lines, but the Anstice lads came out
4-1 winners. Chris Coterhill lost 42-53 to George Hammond,
and that was followed by Alan Kynaston just losing out to
Mick Cahill, 56-49. Another close frame next, this time the
frame going to Second club player Steve Archer, against Billy
Watson, 56-53. Noel Stones had a comfortable win over Nick
Holmes, and Roger Smith for Second club won the second point
of the evening with a win over Steve Smallwood, that score
51-42 to Roger.
Shifnal D had a 3-2 win over Little Dawley D with Shifnal
at home. The Shifnal team took the first two frames with Terry
Askew and Sanjay Chauhan winning their frames playing Danny
Bedworth and Andy Shaw. Sean cross for L.D.S.D. then took
a frame when he beat Arthur Aston 47-20. Geoff French won
the fourth frame and the match with his win over Luke Edwards.
The final frame saw Chris Gifford get the better of Barrie
Easthope to make it a 3-2 result for Shifnal.
The last match to report was a local derby match between
Newport A and Newport B. Just one point separate these two
teams after this match, which was a 3-2 victory for the B
side. A. Davies lost out to Chris Hughes giving the A side
the lead, but the next frame could not have been closer with
Richard Goldie beating Geoff Grocott 55-54. Paul Stokes restored
the lead for the A side with a win over M. Rivit. Steve Speake
made it 2-2 beating Andy Yates and in the last frame of the
evening Les Stirling beat new signing Geoff Howles to give
the win to his side, Newport B, 3-2.
