Minnesota Fats B still top the table this week, but although
at home to the Bayley A side, Min B came up against a spirited
fight from the Bayley club lads. Keith Price gave the home
side the first point of the evening when he played Spencer
Rowley, whose form has dipped recently. Bob Mason pulled off
a great win over Darren Pountney in a close frame next, beating
Darren 54-43. Craig Reynolds didn’t have it all his
own way, but overcame Maxwell Hodson 66-43. The next frame
looked to be an exciting frame with Chris Morgan-Adams nicking
it from Darren Weston, 61-59. So, a decider, and that was
between two top class players, Steve Fletcher and Shaun Harris.
Shaun took the deciding frame by 59-38.
Shifnal B, chasing the leaders, did their cause no harm with
a 5-0 victory over Anstice A, at the Anstice club. Aaron Sparkes
took the first frame from Neil Price 66-35, with John Fallows
adding the second in a high scoring frame with Steve Camp;
that score, 79-58 to John. Almost an inevitable win it seems
these days, from the very talented Matt Davies, this time
84-12 playing Laki Badhan. Angus Way stepped up next to defeat
Nigel Wallcroft 63-33, and in the final frame Lindsay Knox
completed the rout with a 59-34 win over Keith Blackham.
The first division now looks like a two horse race with no
one else really challenging, and the next team in the table
is Little Dawley A, who were away to Cordon A. This result
went to the Coddon side 3-2. Lee Elcock for LDSA beat Andy
Jones in the first frame, but Tony Garmson levelled with a
win over Phil Cottey, 54-23. Steve Downes who is having a
great run so far this season, then beat Stu Russel 57-23 to
make it 2-1 for Coddon. Mark Wall made the match win safe
by beating Jesse Lowe in a close encounter, that score, Mark
49, Jesse 39. The last frame saw Ade Henry make it 3-2, beating
Nick Pearce.
No result in from Maddocks A, and the next team in the table,
Broseley, were at home to Dawley A. Broseley A, who have not
been able to field a regular team this season are mid table,
and won this match 3-2. Sean Nolan from Dawley put his side
into the lead against another useful player, Simon McLeod.
R. Dubicki, making only his second appearance for Broseley,
beat Pete Nolan 75-7 to make it one each. Mark Jones then
put Dawley back into the lead again, this time defeating Neil
Caswell 59-19. Steady Mick Brezwyn set up a deciding frame
after he beat Rick Bailey, recently returned to the Dawley
fold. In the last frame John Banks had a comfortable win over
Liam Goodman, 71-21.
Bayley E seem to have consolidated their position in the
first division after a few shaky results earlier in the season.
This week the Bayley E side were at home to Coddon C, who
now look certain to make a quick return to the second division.
Bayley E took the first four frames with Andy O’Brien
winning the first against Garry Owen, 61-22. Next up, D. Beyer
beat Mick Stokes 67-34 to make it 2-0. Ali Jones carried on
the winning streak by beating Matt Bothwell 70-15, before
John Squire added the fourth point with a win over Mark Tusel.
Fraser Mackinnon recued a point for the Coddon when he beat
Dave France.
Second Division
Little Dawley G were at home to Bayley F this week, where
their lead was reduced to just one point at the top. The match
opened with super sub, Phil Whitby stepping in for Andy Kendrick,
and Phil put in a good performance to beat Tommy Bell. Tough
match this one but Tommy made a poor shot on the green ball
which gave Phil his opening to take the frame 58-33. The next
frame saw Graham Wiley play Alan Turner. Another difficult
frame with some great safety play from both players. Alan
took an early lead, but Grahams tenacity saw him come back
to get in front. The game could have gone either way, but
after Graham missing the brown, Alan took the four colours
to win on the black. G. Clements was always in a comfortable
lead playing Richard Jags, but Richard came right back into
the frame to end up losing on the black. So, a good close
match so far, and in the next frame we saw Roy Levenue up
against Mick Hughes. Mick played one of his best games to
date with all of his old assurance back, and even threw in
a few good safety shots for good measure. With the match win
secured, Graham Copson was the last player up, and he was
matched with Graham Darrell. The Little Dawley player potted
like a demon with good safety play too, and with so few chances
falling Graham Darrel’s way, the end score was 67-33
to the Little Dawley man.
Dawley B were at home to the Shifnal A side this week and
suffered a 4-1 defeat. This result means they have lost touch
with the leaders now, and they may find it a hard task to
get back with Audco C above them with a game in hand. Kev
Jones for Dawley lost the first frame to Gareth Lloyd, but
Alex Nolan made the scores level with a win over Mark Wordsell,
53-33. The next frame was close with Steve Jones for Shifnal
beating Tom White 61-48. The run continued with Chris Bristow
getting the better of Barry Roden 71-27. Chris Crook made
it 4-1 to the Shifnal side with a comfortable win over Alex
Jones, 50-10.
Shifnal F turned up the heat on the leaders this week with
a 5-0 win at Shifnal playing Bayley D. Bayley D are a struggling
side this season, and this defeat sees them stranded at the
bottom of this division, a full match behind the rest, so
lots of work for them to do! Rob Wright started the ball rolling
with a victory over Dave Dudley 61-32. The next frame was
a lot closer, but that one also went to Shifnal courtesy of
Chris Painters win over Craig Whitehead, 69-58. Roy Martin
gave Bayley no respite by adding a third point with his win
over Dave Williams, 57-33. Dave Peplow added the fourth, Dave
64, Jim Lewis 14, and in the last the whitewash was completed
by Chris Petford who beat Brian Aberdeen 63-20.
Third Division
No result from Maddocks D this week, but they still remain
in top spot, with their main rivals Anstice B losing this
week to Shifnal D team. Terry Askew had a 23 break and beat
Mick Cahill in a very close frame, 62-55. Sanjay Chauhan then
lost his frame with Steve Smallwood which levelled the scores.
Peter Wharton regained the lead for Shifnal in yet another
close frame, this time the score was 49 to Peter and 43 to
John Darrock. The score lines of this match just illustrate
how close to winning a match can become, with the next frame
going to Arthur Aston 44-40 in his match with George Hammond.
In the last frame, Noel Stones made no mistake in his frame,
and beat Geoff French 72-47.
Newport B, at home to the Second Club B side, lost this match
3-2. Alan Kynaston beat Richard Goldie in the first game of
the evening to give the Trench side the lead. That was added
to by Keith Mears victory over Keith Gardner. Matt Revit pulled
one back for Newport with a win over Nick Holmes, 46-11. Steve
Speake nearly set up a decider for his team mate, but just
lost out 59-52 as he lost to Chris Coterill. The last frame
went to Newport, and Les Stirling with a 57-30 point win over
Roger Smith.
Two teams at the wrong end of the division met this week
when Bayley Q were paired up with Little Dawley D. The first
two frames went to the Little Dawley side with wins from Danny
Bedworth 57, Steve Weatherall 28, followed by Andy Shaw beating
Rob Cook, 44-33. Richard Tranter started a revival when he
got the better of Sean Cross 49-34, and then Richards’s
team mate, Chris Bates setting up the decider by beating Luke
Edwards, 57-11. The last frame could have gone either way,
but it was Chris Gifford who took the spoils with his win
over Chris Durham, 45-35.
