First thing to mention before it's too late...there is
an Inter-town match between Shifnal and Telford taking place
at the Anstice War Memorial club on Friday the 23rd of January,
starting at 7:30 pm.
In division two there is no result yet from Little Dawley
G, so top spot goes to Audco C who were away to Shifnal A
this week. Audco recorded a 4-1 win over Shifnal A. The first
frame was won by John Williams of Audco, who recorded a mighty
win of 100-26 against Mark Jones. The next frame went to Mick
Pink who beat Gareth Lloyd 66-23. Roger Lewis had an easy
victory over Steve Jones, but the next frame was a closer
affair with Anthony Heathcote, just losing out to Chris Crook
53-47. The last frame saw Paul Proctor make the match score
4-1 to the Audco lads, with his win, 65-23 over Chris Bristow.
Shifnal F, in the van, so to speak, were away to the very
experienced Maddocks B, and maybe this reflected the result,
a 4-1 win to the Maddocks B side. Wally Harper won his frame
playing Chris Painter, followed by Les Hicks beating Rob Wright.
Really nice to see Les playing so well. This win was followed
by another ardent campaigner; Doug Morrey, who beat Roy Martin,
Roy is also from the old school of snooker that I grew up
with, long may the old school remain. John Archer will be
pleased with his victory over Dave Peplow, that score 48-37
to John. The last frame went to Shifnal F with another close
frame, this time Roy Adams lost out to Chris Petford, so a
consolation point to the Shifnal team!
Minnesota Fats A made a little ground on Dawley B when they
had the Dawley team visit them at O,Gates. Mick Pearson took
Min A into the lead when he beat Kev Jones, and Kirk Stevenson
increased their lead with a win over Alex Jones. Barry Roden
stopped the progress with a win over Mick Egan. The next frame
saw Neil Pearson get the better of Grant Heighway, whose form
has dipped recently, so that result gave the win to Min A.
Alex Nolan won the last game for Dawley B to make the final
score, 3-2 to Min A, but Dawley B are not out of the reckoning
yet!
First Division
Minnesota Fats B went into this tricky fixture with plenty
of caution and really turned the screws on their opponents.
In frame 1 Darren Weston grit out a massive frame against
Sean Nolan eventually winning on the black but having to come
back from the green to win on the final ball. Keith Price
made it 2-0 with a comfortable victory in his frame making
it 2-0, Shaun Harris then put the match beyond reach with
an impressive display against Pete Nolan, getting his own
back on Pete from recent years gone by and beating one of
his bogey players. Craig Reynolds then played a good safety
game against Rick Bailey, coming out a comfortable winner
and making it 4-0. Darren Pountney then went on last against
Mark Jones and after a short bout of safety, managed to knock
in a great 64 break, in which he took 12 reds to ensure the
Min. Fats lads went away with full points. With news of the
other results from the night, this making a little headway
on the chasing pack.

Meanwhile, Darren’s former team, Little Dawley A, entertained
Anstice A at home. Lee Elcock took the first frame for the
Little Dawley side beating Steve Camp. Mick Musgrave levelled
for Anstice, with Keith Blackham, still for Anstice, putting
them 2-1 up when he beat Jesse Lowe. Stu Russell then got
the better of the useful Nigel Wallcroft to set up a deciding
frame. This was played between Ade Henry and Laki Badhan.
It was the Little Dawley man, Ade Henry who won the frame,
and the match. Even at this stage of the season, with such
a strong pool of players, looks like a Minnesota title yet
again.
Two results adrift for Shifnal B now, but even had they won
both missing matches, it would leave them trailing Min B by
a few points!
Coddon A were at home to the Bayley E side, and lost this
match 3-2. Dave Lloyd returned to the Coddon fold, and got
the Coddon lads off to a winning start beating Andy O’Brien.
This was followed by Steve Downes, who has shown great from
this season, adding the second point for Coddon. Unfortunately
for Coddon the next three frames, and the match went to the
Bayley side with wins from John Squire against Mark Wall,
then, Ali Jones beat namesake Andy Jones, with what looked
liked an exciting frame, and the score line! 76-75 to Ali.
The final frame saw Dave France beat Tony Garmson 41-30. After
conceding a five point giveaway last week, this result has
put Coddon A at the bottom end of the table.
Bayley A are keeping their heads above water, and this weeks
result was a 4-1 win against struggling Coddon C, at the Bayley
club. Daniel Ballard took the first frame for Coddon when
he defeated Steve Nichols, but that was as good as it got
for Coddon, with Bayley taking the next four frames. Bob Mason
beat Mick Stokes, and in the next frame the match was considerably
closer with Maxwell Hodson overcoming Garry Owen 71-64. Chris
Morgan-Adams victory over Frasier McKinnon was also a hard
fought affair, that score, 52-44 to Chris. In the last frame
Steve Fletcher had a comfortable win over Mark Tusel.
Third Division
No result from Maddocks D this week, but they still remain
in top spot, with their main rivals Anstice B losing this
week to Little Dawley C. The Anstice team had home advantage,
and got off to a winning start when Steve Smallwood beat Pete
Randall 67-11. The lead increased with Mick Cahill’s
win over Sam Hamilton, 62-16. John Calvert changed the course
of the match after recording a comfortable win over Billy
Watson. A tighter frame next , but Joe Rixom levelled the
score with a narrow win over Noel Stones, a good player at
any level. The decider was played between George Hammond and
Carl Kesterton, and this went to Carl who won the match for
Little Dawley C.
Hadley A, who have improved this season, gave the Shifnal
D a hard time with the final result being 3-2 to the Shifnal
side. Hadley, the home side saw Ken Booty in a thriller against
Terry Askew, in a high scoring frame, 68-58 to Terry. Kevin
Whitehead restored the balance, just, with his win over Sanjay
Chauhan, 55-40. Richard Benting saw his frame slip away to
Peter Wharton who knocked in a 21 break during the game. Allen
Francis for Hadley then came up against Arthur Aston, and
in a close encounter, Allen lost that one 46-34. A very low
scoring game next saw Iain Atkinson beat Geoff French 32-16.
Newport A were at home to the Second Club B side, and won
this match 3-2. Chris Coterhill took the first game for the
Second Club, with a close win over Chris Hughes, 64-51. The
next frame saw Colin Farge, who has only played a handful
of games this season; beat Alan Kynaston 72-13 to level the
match. Pete Smith regained the lead for Newport beating Nick
Holmes. So, a match in the making, and lo and behold, Keith
Mears stepped up for the Second Club, and took that frame
from Geoff Grocott to set up a decider. Andy Yates for the
Newport side made the match safe for Newport by beating Roger
Smith to gain the win.
In the bottom of the table clash, Little Dawley B had the
Bayley club Q visit them. Steven Weatherall got the Bayley
lads into the lead in a tight frame, coming out the victor,
51-43. Ginette Gittus then beat Chris Fletcher 47-28. That
was followed by Andrew Clarke gaining what looked to be an
easy win over Robert Cook. Chris Bates then stepped up to
set up yet another deciding frame when he got the better of
Colin Gittus. The last frame was probably very tense as reflected
in the scores, with Richard Tranter taking the match for the
Bayley lads, 36-25.
