League leaders Minnesota Fats B, had their lead in the
first division cut again this week as they met one of the
former first division winners, Broseley, at Min Fats. John
Banks took the first frame for Broseley with a win over Darren
Pountney, 56-29. The next frame saw Keith Price level when
he beat R. Dubiki, 60-35. Simon Yeates added another point
for Min B with a win over Neil Caswell, that score, 70-42
to Simon. The next frame went to Broseley courtesy of Simon
McLeod getting the better of Craig Reynolds. That set up the
decider between Ian Duffy and Mick Brezwyn, two of the most
methodical players in the league, and this outcome was a win
for Ian, giving the Min B side a 3-2 victory.
With Shifnal B gaining a 4-1 win over Bayley E this week,
there is only one point between first and second spot. Matt
Davies started well for the home side and put Shifnal 1-0
up with an easy victory over Andy O’Brien. Aaron Sparkes
was given a tougher match by D. Beyers, but still succeeded
in making it 2-0. John Fallows followed up with another easy
victory, this time the scores were 88 to John Fallows, and
6 to John Squires. Angus Way made it 4-1 to Shifnal beating
Dave France 59-13. Shifnal may have a tougher run in than
Min B, but the two top teams meet in the last match of the
season!
Anstice A, currently third in the first division, had to
visit the struggling Bayley A side this week, and this match
ended up in a 3-2 win for Anstice. Spencer Rowley, who has
not played too well this season, was matched up with Laki
Badhan, who has actually played well this season! The result
of this frame was a 61-1 win for Spencer, who after a drought
in his winning stats, has now won two in a row. Maxwell Hodson
was no match for Keith Blackham, and Keith Won that frame
58-9. Next up was Arthur Burrows who had a nice friendly game
with Neil Price, I say that as a bystander; lots of quips
but in the end Arthur couldn’t compete with Neil’s
power potting, and Neil went on to win that frame 59-24. Steve
Camp won the next for Anstice with a comfortable win over
Bob Mason. In the last frame, Steve Fletcher, five minutes
late, but fresh from his evening meal, took the last frame
for the Bayley lads with a win over Mike Musgrave.
Maddocks A had a 5-0 win when they played Little Dawley A
at the Maddocks club. Ian Eldridge took the first playing
Lee Elcock, followed by Ian Skelton beating Phil Cottey. Leigh
France than saw off Jesse Lowe, with Phil Davies making it
four against Stu Russell. In the last frame it was Dave France
who completed the whitewash with a win over Ade Henry. The
comment on the card was; Games little bit scrappy, but a lot
closer than the scores suggested!
Dawley A were at home to Coddon A this week, and the Coddon
team suffered a 4-1 loss. Sean Nolan took the first point
for Dawley beating Tony Garmson 72-54, but in the next frame,
a rare return to the table for Dave Lloyd, who won his frame
with Liam Goodman to level the match score. That was a close
frame, as was the next when Pete Nolan beat Andy Jones on
the black, 51-45. Mark Jones for Dawley then had a convincing
win against Steve Downes, 82-21 before Rick Bailey made it
4-1 with a win over Nick Pearce. This result means that Coddon
A may be battling against relegation.
Coddon C won their first match of the season this week when
they were at home to Maddocks C. Matt Bothwell started the
ball rolling for Coddon with a 51-2 victory over Mick Wincott.
Steve Hassack made it 1-1 beating Garry Owen, and then Joe
Oliver put Maddocks into the lead with an easy win playing
Mark Tusel, that score 77-12 to Joe. Frasier McKinnon squared
the match, also with a comfortable win over Darren Wilkie.
In the deciding frame Daniel Ballard beat Graham Hoof 54-29.
Second Division
With Audco C having a bye this week, Little Dawley G had
the opportunity to go back to the top of this division. However,
this wasn’t the case as they lost at home to Shifnal
F, also vying for honours this season. Graham Copson gave
Little Dawley the start they needed with a win over John Briscoe.
Rob Wright for Shifnal replied by beating Roy Levenue, and
the next frame was very close with Roy Martin edging out Rob
Withington, 55-44. Graham Wiley also had a close frame but
lost that one to Dave Peplow, 52-43. G. Clements took the
second point for Little Dawley with a narrow victory playing
Chris Petford, that score, 59-47 to G. Clements.
Shifnal A were at home to the Bayley B side, and Shifnal
A won this match 3-2. Apart from Bayley D who seem to be all
but down, there are three teams now at the bottom who will
be competing to stay up! Ian Postins, only playing his second
game of the season lost the first frame to Kev West 58-18.
Richard Davies for Shifnal then beat Kelvin McLeod on the
black, in a low scoring frame, 32-30, and in the next frame
Danny Oliver added another win to his impressive campaign
by beating Steve Jones 54-37. Chris Crook levelled the match
up, including making a 31 break during his win over Dick Oliver.
The decider also looked like a black ball game, and this one
went to Chris Bristow, who beat Dickie Bedall 50-44.
Bayley F were without key players this week, but still managed
a 3-2 win playing Dawley B at the Bayley club. In the first
frame between Richard Jaggs and Alex Nolan, Alex came out
the winner in a scrappy frame. Next up was Mick Hughes who
struggled early in the frame, but came back from twenty behind
to win, 63-42. New player for Bayley, L. Addison, playing
his first competitive frame of snooker, was beaten by Grant
Heighway to take Dawley into a 2-1 lead. Alan Turner then
beat Barry Roden to set up the decider between Graham Darrell
and Nigel Brazenall. Graham was cueing very well, and Nigel
didn’t get many chances to win the frame, and in the
end it was a 64-28 victory to Graham.
Bayley D look to be heading towards the third division after
another 4-1 defeat, this week at the hands of the Second Club
A side. Ian Ferriday and Paul Crooks put the Second club into
a 2-0 lead when Ian beat Dave Dudley 61-35, with Paul getting
the better of Mark Bedall, 58-15. Dave Williams pulled one
back for Bayley with a narrow victory over Toby Welsh. A very
good game followed with Craig Whitehead against Dave Welsh,
but it was Dave who finally won the frame 53-28. Meanwhile,
the last game was also coming to an end on the other table,
and that one saw Brian Aberdeen for the Bayley, lose to Mike
Thompson 49-28. This result leaves the Bayley lads six points
adrift at the bottom of the table with still some difficult
fixtures on the horizon.
Maddocks B find themselves third from bottom of this division,
and this week the Maddocks side were at home to Min Fats A.
Wally Harper got Maddocks off the mark in a tight finish beating
Mick Pearson 55-47. Kirk Stevenson replied for Min Fats to
level, when he beat Les Hicks. Doug Morrey restored the lead
for Maddocks with a win over Mick Egan. John Archer then lost
to Neil Pearson, which left Roy Adams and Phil Bufton to fight
it out for the match win. In a high scoring frame it was Phil,
for Min Fats that claimed the win, so 3-2 to Min Fats A
Third Division
Newport A took on the Bayley Q team, at Newport, and it
was back to reality this week for the Bayley Q lads after
their stunning victory lat week. New signing, J. Copper won
the opening frame for Newport, beating Steve Weatherall 66-43.
Chris Hughes then had an easy win over Rob Cook, with Colin
Farge, only playing his fifth frame of the season, beating
Richard Tranter, 64-39. Trevor Smith made it 4-0 in a close
frame with Chris Fletcher, but in the last frame of the evening,
Chris Bates stopped the whitewash with a comfortable victory
over Pete Smith.
Hadley A have fared well so far this season, but this week
they suffered a 3-2 loss at home to Little Dawley B. Kev Whitehead
put Hadley 1-0 up with Mark Randall levelling the scores playing
Roy Francis. Allen Francis then lost to Ginette Gittus followed
by Colin Gittus narrowly getting the better of Richard “Tugboat”
Benting, 53-44. Iain Atkinson brought some respectability
to the result by grabbing the last point on offer, beating
Dan Soltys 51-28.
Little Dawley D had a good win this week when they entertained
Newport B at Little Dawley. Luke Edwards lost the first frame
for the home side when Alan Davies won the opener with Keith
Gardener adding the second playing Jamie Mills, that score,
37-32 to Keith. Equally as close in the next frame when Sean
Cross beat Stevie Speake 54-45, and this win set Little Dawley
on the road to a match win as Andy Shaw made no mistake in
his frame to win 70-44. The next win was more emphatic with
Chris Gifford winning with an 83-19 score line, this time,
against Ian Stevenson.
