Shifnal B remain the holders of the Telford and District
Amateur Snooker League (sponsored by Hardy Tyres) Team Knockout
winners, following on from last weeks success from clinching
the Division 1 title.
In the final at Wellington's Sir John Bayley Club they pulled
back their 15 point handicap deficit to beat Division 1 opponents
Maddocks A. Matthew Davies won his first frame 66-42 against
Dave France to put Shifnal in the lead by 9 points even though
Dave took the last seven balls. In the next Ian Eldridge faced
John Fallows, with Ian in fine form resulting in a 90-38 victory
for the Maddocks man, meaning that Maddocks overall lead was
now 41 points. Frame three saw Ian Skelton v Angus Way, with
another Ian in inspired form as he notched up a hard fought
victory by 76 points to 37 - but then Aaron Sparkes took the
initiative in the next frame for Shifnal with a comprehensive
and brilliant potting display with a 97-7 defeat of Phil Davies.
The last saw Lynsay Knox start with an 8 point advantage
against Leigh France, with both players knowing the importance
of this frame, it was Leigh who found his potting range first,
but Lynsay had other ideas and produced a great comeback,
both players required the last two colours to win, unfortunately
for Leigh he went in off the pink, leaving Lynsay a long pink,
which he sunk to take the frame and the Team knockout back
to Shifnal for the second successive season. Thanks to match
official Frank Williams.
Consolation Cup
Coddon A staged a remarkable comeback to win the Consolation
Cup at the Shifnal War Memorial Club. In the final they overcame
some stern resistance from third division Newport B who received
a handicap start of 100 points.
Those 100 points were reduced after the first frame as Andy
Jones produced some excellent potting, to defeat Richie Goldie
by 91 points to 42. Coddon took the next frame too, as Steve
Downes beat Alan Davies by the slender margin of 57-33. Things
didn’t continue to go the Donnington side's way though
as in the next Steve Speke got the better of Tony Garmson
by 66-24 to leave Coddon some 79 points in front overall with
just two games left to play. Then a brilliant display from
Newport player Les Stirling saw that deficit increased to
79 points as he overcame Coddon Captain Mark Wall 59-49.
The final frame, as expected, proved to be a tense affair
with Coddons Dave Lloyd taking on Newport Captain Keith Gardner.
Dave rolled back the years with a vintage display against
an unfortunate Keith, potting everything available and leaving
Keith very few chances, Dave eventually potted all the remaining
colours to clinch the frame and the Consolation cup, Congratulations
to the Coddon lads. Thanks to match official John Jones.
