We start this report with last seasons holders, Shifnal
B who entertained the 2004/05 winners Bayley Q, with Shifnal
conceding 185pts on the handicap things started well in frame
1 with Matt Davies taking on Steve Weatherall, in the early
exchanges Matt opened up a good lead with breaks of 66 and
23 and going into the colours things looked bleak, but Steve
found some of his old form and took 5 out of the 7 remaining
colours to give the score a more respectable look, in the
next K Uzzell faced Rob Cook, this frame going the same as
the 1st, Kev winning 103-13, the next saw Angus Way knock
in a break of 47 to put the match firmly in the home sides
favour with an emphatic win over Chris Bates, frame 4 L Knox
took on Chris Durham, this time it was the away player who
took the early initiative to open up a 20 point lead, Lindsay
struggled to get back into the match, with Chris playing much
the better, eventually winning 60-33, things returned to normal
in the last with the ever dependable John Fallows beating
Richard Tranter to put the Shifnal lads through to round 2.
Things also went well for the D side, taking on Dawley A,
and in what was to be a decisive opening frame T Askew put
the brakes on P Harper, only losing by 4pts, this was the
incentive to kick-start a good win, with S Chauhan beating
G Heighway 53-37, K Jones responded for Dawley defeating A
Aston 90-49, G French then replied for the home side beating
B Roden 69-32, even though A Jones took the last for Dawley
beating B Easthope 81-44, it wasn’t going to be enough.
At the Bayley their D side took on Coddon A who had to concede
85pts, things started well for the D side with Dave Dudley
extending their lead beating T Garmson 69-38 in frame 2 D
Williams put the D side further ahead with a fantastic win
over M Wall 82-47, in the next S Downs started the fight back
for the Coddon side with an emphatic 91-23 win over D Rhodes,
A Jones continued the comeback clawing back another 55pts
beating M Beddall 73-18, leaving the Coddon only 28pts behind,
C Whitehead steadied the home sides nerves and put them through
to the next round beating N Pearce 58-45.
On the other table Bayley B faced the leagues newest side
Lds D, Bayley having to pull back 80pts, K West got things
going with a 62-34 win over A Smallwood, D Bedworth took the
next for Lds 58-45 over K McLeod, in frame 3 R Beddall defeated
A Shaw 58-23, the next saw D Oliver beat S Cross 62-51, the
last saw just a 19pt difference between the sides and amazingly
Danny Oliver levelled the point score beating C Gifford 61-42,
this resulted in a tense re-spotted black ball, with Danny
eventually slotting it home.
The Maddocks saw a derby match between the B and C sides,
the C side conceding 65pts, D Wincott started well for the
C side winning 74-23 over W Harper, the next saw L Hicks settled
things down for the home side beating D Wilkie 58-56, frame
3 saw J Oliver defeat J Archer 45-38, but the home side responded
again with D Morrey beating B Wincott 50-40 and in the last
R Adams played superbly defeating S Hassack 59-39 to put the
B side through.
Maddocks A had to pull back 165pts against Lds B and P Davies
got off to a flying start winning 110-9 over P Clarke, the
next 2 frames saw I Eldridge beat M Randall 64-34 and L France
beat D Solty 56-50, in the fourth I Skelton jawed the black
on a break of 75 on his way to victory over another league
debutante Ginete Gittus whom I would like to welcome to our
league, D France wrapped things up the A side winning 60-22
over C Gittus.
Newport A go through to the next round with victory over
Bayley A side, the first two frames going the way of the home
side C Hughes 86 B Mason 33, C Farge 52 S Rowley 36, M Hodson
responded for the Bayley side 62-52 over A Turnbull, but further
victories from P Stokes and A Yates put the home side through.
Dawley Social A were beaten at home by Maddocks C, the home
side having to pull back 105pts, Dawley pulled back 57pts
in the first two frames S Nolan beating G Arnold 61-26, L
Goodman beat C Caswell 57-35, but things then turned round
when I Courtney extended Maddocks lead with a good 68-28 win
over P Nolan, even though R Bailey reduced the deficit in
frame 4, it proved to much to pull back for the home side,
Maddocks going through.
Anstice B took on Shifnal F, R Wright pulled the whole handicap
back in frame 1, beating S Wimbush 87-20, M Cahill then put
the home side back in front winning 67-52, then up stepped
N Stones in frame 3, knocking in a 60 break to win 108-21,
G Hammond put them further ahead against D Peplow, and even
though C Petford won the last for Shifnal, it’s the
Anstice lads who go through.
2nd Club Trench A are also through to the next round with
a good win at Lds A, I Ferriday and B Lane put the 2nd club
in a strong position in the first 2 frames and they never
looked back. It wasn’t such good news the 2nd Clubs
B side as they lost out at home to Shifnal A by just 28pts,
wins for Shifnal A from M Wordsell, C Crook, G Lloyd and C
Bristow with only K Mears winning for the home side
