One match to left to play for some of us after this weeks
fixtures, and what an exciting end to the season for the teams
at the top and bottom of the divisions.
Minnesota Fats B were at home in a local derby with Little
Dawley A this week, and the match went to Minnesota 4-1. This
win almost guarantees them the title. Ian Duffy led the charge
with a win over Lee Elcock, followed up by Keith Price beating
Phil Cottey. Next up saw Simon Yeates take the frame from
Jesse Lowe, 80-47. Shawn Harris added the fourth when he beat
Stu Russell, and in the final frame, although Craig Reynolds
would have liked to make it five, Ade Henry played a good
frame of snooker and with a 44 break during the frame, won
by 82-18.
Meanwhile, challengers for the title, Shifnal B had to visit
Coddon C. On paper this match could have taken Shifnal a little
closer in the race for the title, but it didn’t quite
work out that way. Aaron Sparkes for the visitors got the
first for Shifnal with his win over Matt Bothell. Angus Way
took the second frame from Garry Owen with Matt Davies making
it 3-0 when he played Mark Tusel. The fourth frame involved
Daniel Ballard against John Fallows, and this proved to be
an exciting match with the frame going to Daniel with a score
line of 61-54. With no player showing for the last frame,
the last point was gifted to Shifnal, but that one point for
the Coddon side, may well be enough to see Shifnal finish
as runners up to Min B.
Struggling Maddocks C were at home to the Anstice A side
this week, and would have welcomed any points forthcoming
to ease their plight. Steve Hassack went in first to bat,
so to speak, and found Steve Camp far too good, and the first
frame went to Anstice. Joe Oliver was next up and suffered
the same fate against Neil Price. Darren Wilkie then tried
to stop the wining sequence, but fell by the wayside with
a defeat from Laki Badham, who also had a 45 break in his
frame. Graham Hoof steeped up to the table next, to see if
he could fare any better, but things went from bad to worse
as Graham succumbed to Mike Musgrave. The best chance of the
evening fell to Ian Cleary, who had a close match with Keith
Blackham, but this one also went to Anstice with Keith winning
64-49. so, this relegation battle may be between the Coddon
A side and Maddocks C, with the Bayley A side on the fringe
of that confrontation.
Broseley have done well considering the turmoil in their
camp, for instance not having a settled side for the season.
This week they entertained the Coddon A side, above mentioned!
and found the Coddon side a formidable proposition. Neil Caswell
for Broseley, lost the first frame to Mark Wall, to give the
visitors the lead. In a close fought frame, Tony Garmson made
it two for Coddon with a 54-51 victory over R. Dubicki. New
signing, G. Edwards then stepped up for Broseley and made
a fine debut performance as he beat Steve Downes, narrowly,
62-51. A very close frame in the fourth with Dave Lloyd for
Coddon securing the match, this time. 53-51 playing Graham
Long. Mick Brezwyn won the last frame easily by beating Andy
Jones. A good result for the Coddon lads, and for Broseley,
a reflection of what could have been with a regular side!
Second Division
Little Dawley G maintained their impressive form to the
season with a 3-2 win over Minnesota Fats A. Mick Pearson
took the first for Min Fats when he beat Graham Copson, but
Graham Wiley levelled with a win over Mick Egan. Neil Pearson
then won the next frame, a close match with G. Clements, 58-48.
Roy Levenue had an easy win over Phil Bufton to set up the
decider between Tommy Bell and Kirk Stevenson. This one went
to Tommy, 84-11. This gives Little Dawley G the advantage
in the position for runners up and promotion.
The accolade a couple of weeks ago for Bayley F was cruising.
This week it was more like crashing after a lack lustre display
against relegation fighting Maddocks B. Fair play to the haddocks
B side, they may have done enough to stay in the division,
but will have to sit it out and see now, as this was their
last match of the season. Richard Jaggs started against Wally
Harper and needing three snookers on the colours managed to
get three of them, but then went in off the blue, frame over.
Next up was Mick Hughes who played so well last week, and
he drew a former wellington billiard hall player, Les Hicks.
Mick was twenty in front on two occasions, but in a cracking
safety game, Les won on the black, after Mick had missed several
chances. Graham Darrell met another billiard hall veteran,
Doug Morrey. Doug played really well and lo and behold, 3-0
to Maddocks. Next up, Andy Kendrick, and say no more, lost
to John Archer, quite comfortably, I might add. The writing
was on the wall, and next up Alan Turner playing Roy Adams,
managed to stay in the frame until the final three colours,
potted the blue and rolled the pink into the jaws for Roy
to pot. Game set and match. Well done Maddocks B.
Local derby match between Bayley D and Bayley B this week
ended in a 4-1 win for the B side. Kevin McLeod won the opener
for the B side with a victory over Dave Williams. Kevin West
added the second beating Craig Whitehead. The third frame
was very close but Danny Oliver maintained his winning ways
with a 43-38 win over Mark Bedall. Jim Lewis did his best,
but also just lost out to Richard Bedall 55-43. Dave Dudley
secured the only point of the evening for the “D”
side with a comfortable win over Dave Stokes, 64-20.
Third Division
Maddocks D saw their season end with a 3-2 win over Bayley
Q, and with a ten point lead pending results, this win should
be enough for them to win this title. Maddocks started well
with Ian Courtney beating Chris Fletcher in the first frame
and Ken Davies taking the second in a close frame with Chris
Durham, that score, 67-54 to Ken. Another close frame followed
and this time it was between Roy Lowe and Robert Cook. Robert
Cook for Bayley took this one, 56-48.
Little Dawley C also had a local derby in this weeks fixtures
and this match was played between the “C “and
the “B” team. The “C” team took the
honours in this match 4-1, which means they will go up with
Maddocks D. Joe Rixom won the first frame beating Ginnette
Gittus, with the a win from John Calvert adding the next.
Newcomer, Sam Drake, playing only his second frame this season,
won the only point for LDS B by beating Steve Jones. Pete
Randall made it 3-1 getting the better of Colin Gittuss. The
last frame of the evening was a much closer affair, but this
one also went to the LDS C team, when Mike Rhodes, also only
playing his second frame of the season won against Dan Soltys,
47-37.
Anstice B will spend another season in this division after
their result playing Newport B. The result was 3-2 to the
Anstice side who were playing from home. John Darrock got
the home side off to the start they wanted beating Richard
Goldie 74-35. The next result though, went to Newport with
a good win from Keith Gardener who defeated Mick Cahill. Noel
Stones restored the lead for Anstice with a comfortable win
over Steve Speake, also having a 25 break in the 78-2 victory.
George Hammond then beat Matt Revit to seal the win for Anstice,
but in the last frame, Les Stirling beat Billy Watson 66-10
to make the final score 3-2.
Little Dawley D are on level points with the Second Club
B Trench side, after they played each other art the Trench
club. Nick Holmes opened for the home side but found Chris
Gifford in winning form and lost that frame 50-23. Alan Kynaston
suffered the same fate against Luke Edwards, that score, 60-28
to Luke. So, two up. And the next player up was Matt Kynaston
who was drawn with Sean Cross. Little Dawley continued the
winning ways and it was Sean who won this one. Chris Coterill
from Second club, then stopped the rot with a win over Andy
Shaw to get the first, and has it happened, the only point
of the evening for the Second club team. The last frame for
little Dawley was secured by Matt Walkers win over Jim Hayward,
50-30.
I am away next week-end, so if you can, please get the results
to me ASAP, so that I can try and get some report together
for the final match of the season. If there are as few a cards
as this week, it shouldn’t be too difficult! Thanks.
