TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 9th January 2008

I have had a phone call from Mr. Colin Pink, who has arranged an exhibition match at Hinstock village hall with Stephen Lee. It will be held on the 23rd of February. There will be ten or eleven players playing a frame against him, and admission tickets are £15-00 including a buffet. If anyone is interested please contact me, or Colin Pink on 01952 550393.

First Division

Normal service resumed this week in our snooker league, although only four results in from the first division.

Broseley A maintained their push towards regaining the league title with another good performance against the Anstice A team at the Anstice club. Broseley took the first four frames before Keith Blackham snatched the last frame from John Banks to leave the score line at 4-1 to Broseley.

Bayley E were at home in a local derby match with their Bayley A side, and although playing very well in this campaign, they saw the Bayley a side take three of the five points on offer. A much needed win for the A side as they have been struggling with their form of late.

Audco A, although winning the match 4-1 found their opposition tough, with Andy Kendrick having to pot three good balls to win his frame, and Richard Jags winning by fluking the black ball against Paul Maxfield. Tom Maxfield played very well coming from behind with a nice 28 break to take the only frame of the evening for Bayley F defeating Mick Hughes.

Little Dawley A will be well pleased with their win over the Maddocks A side. Only Phil Davies and Ian Skelton showed any form in this match for the Maddocks side who seem to be having an indifferent season this time around.

Second Division

Coddon A are building an unassailable lead in this division, and this week was no exception as the Coddon side visited the Bayley club to play Bayley B, and came away with a 4-1 win. Nick Pearce had a good game with Dan Oliver who knocked in a 31 break during the match, but the score line was very close, 56, 52 to Dan.

Second club A played their Second Club B side and came out 4-1 winners to keep up their challenge towards the push for first division snooker.

Shifnal F lost their impetus this week as the Coddon C side beat their Shifnal side 4-1 giving the Coddon A side a big boost towards promotion.

Dawley B played the Maddocks B side this week, at the Dawley venue, and the match started with Ray Clements playing Wally Harper. Must have been a good match to watch this, with Wally losing on a re-spotted black, and the score line, 89 plays 82! The match result ended in a 4-1 win for the Dawley side with Doug Morrey being the only winner for the Maddocks side.

Minnesota G had a much needed 5-0 win over the Little Dawley G side to stop themselves becoming adrift in this division. Wayne Weeks produced a nice 39 break during his game with Graham Wiley.

Third Division

Comrades A, currently playing at Shifnal, had a good 4-1 win over the Shifnal D team, so you could say in effect it was like another derby match. Comrades are doing well this season and the only defeat in this match came when Sanjay Chauhan beat Mark Jones 58-12 with a nice 25 break during the frame.

Little Dawley C, although at home to the Audco B side lost this match 3-2. Gary Walls had a nice 28 break when he Andy Lycett, 61-27. Little Dawley C remain in fourth position in this division but due to the byes have a game in hand.

Hadley A continued their impressive form with a closely fought victory at Anstice B, Kev Whitehead & Ken Booty gave the Hadley boys a 2-0 lead with victories over Johnny Darrock & Mick Cahill respectively , however Anstice pulled the next two frames back , Noel Stones got the better of Tugboat & George Hammond defeated Al Francis . With the match tied, Iain Atkinson shaded victory on the black against Billy Watson to give the Hadley boys a 3-2 victory, gaining some revenge for their 4-1 defeat in the 1st game of the season.

Maddocks D were at home to the Newport British legion this week and inflicted a 4-1 defeat over the Newport side. Newport’s form has dipped this season and this result now leaves them second from bottom in the table.
