The first division title is still in the balance this week,
but Broseley must be favourites now, after their match with
the challenging Minnesota fats B side. Broseley were the home
side in this fixture, and won the match 4-1. John Banks had
a 43 when he beat Ian Duffy 68-39, with Keith Price restoring
the balance by beating Graeme Long 56-43. That’s where
the challenge ended as Broseley went on to win the next three
frames. Si Thomas beat Simon Yeates, followed by Simon McLeod
with a good 51 break in his frame beating Darren Weston, 73-8.
Mick Brezwyn then defeated the very useful Shawn Harris to
give Broseley an excellent chance of winning the championship,
if they secure a win at Dawley next week.
Shifnal B may have too much to do now, although they went
to the Maddocks C team and came away with a 4-1 win. Darren
Wincott, who has played well all season, was the only winner
for the Maddocks side.
Anstice A, who have had a good season, visited the Audco
A side this week and beat the Audco team 3-2. Andy Elliot
beat Richard Jags comfortably, with Steve Camp who had lady
luck on his side, then making it 2-0 beating Mick Hughes.
Alan Turner beat Neil Price for Audcos' first point of the
evening, but Nigel Wallcroft tied the match up with a good
display against Andy Kendrick, having a 39 clearance on his
way to victory. In a good potting frame Graham Darrell beat
Frank Williams 57-41, 3-2 to Anstice.
Bayley A at home to Maddocks A, recorded a 3-2 win over the
Maddocks team, which gives them a great chance of beating
the drop. Bayley F have not fielded a full team for a couple
of weeks, and Audco have to go to Maddocks A next week! However,
in this match Chris Morgan-Adams had a very close, but good
win, beating Ian Eldridge 48-44, with Phil Davis then beating
Spencer Rowley 66-39 to level the scores. Bob Mason won another
close frame 47-4 playing Dave France. A fine win by Steve
Fletcher then secured the match when Steve beat Ian Skelton.
Leigh France took the last frame beating Maxwell Hodson.
After last weeks 4-1 win over the Audco side, that result
ended up in the lap of Dawley A this week when they went to
the Little Dawley A side and lost by the same margin. Little
Dawley A have finished very strongly in the latter part of
the season, and this victory was quite comprehensive. The
only winner for the Dawley A side was Ian Newstead who beat
a good player, young Lee Elcock. Lee has also had a good season
to date.
Bayley E received some assistance in their 5-0 victory over
the Bayley F team, with the Bayley F side fielding just two
players.
Second Division
Coddon A look to have this division title, and this week
they didn’t falter when they B travelled the short distance
up the road to play Second Club B. Dave Lloyd won the opener
in a tight frame with Graham Firmstone, and then Andy Jones
made it two, with an easy win over Bob Lane, who in fairness
hasn’t played many games this season. Dave Welsh stopped
the rot with a win over Steve Downes, 65-34 but Mark Wall
captured the match win, having a nice 32 break in his victory
over Tom Firmstone 57-32. Toby Welsh made the score line respectable
beating Tony Garmsom, just! 51-39.
In a sort of a reverse fixture, it turned out that the challenging
Coddon C were at home to the Second Club Trench A team. Both
Coddon C and Coddon A have had a great season with Coddon
C assured of promotion, whatever next week’s results.
Those results will decide the champions of this division.
Coddon C raced into a 4-0 lead before the Second Club A got
their point, courtesy of Carl Owen beating Josh Wall 48-24.
The only other close game in this match was in the fourth
frame when Daniel Ballard got the better of Lloyd Giles 53-42.
The Second Club A team will be a little disappointed in their
final placing, which could still be third? but I’m sure
they will be vying for honours next season.
Shifnal F were at home to Bayley D this week, and the Shifnal
team took three out of the five points on offer. Chris Painter
played well against Dave Dudley having a 31 break during his
match. That was topped by a great 61 break by Chris Petford
who beat Jim Lewis 80-14.
Minnesota Fats A have finished strongly, and they entertained
the Maddocks B side who suffered their second 4-1 defeat in
a row. The Maddocks lads have competed well this season and
they will be pleased to finish mid table. Mick Pearson beat
Wally Harper in a close opening frame but it seemed all one
way traffic after that until Steve Pritchard for the Maddocks
side beat Mick Egan to take the only point for the Maddocks
side.
Third Division
Audco C have run away with this division to date and cannot
be caught, and lets hope there is a venue for the Audco teams
next season. Audco were away to the Anstice B side who are
full of experience, but haven’t seemed to punch their
weight yet again! This season. Anstice B were beaten 3-2 at
home by the Audco side which did go to a decider. Highlight
of the evening would have been noel stones clearance of 33
during his win over ant Heathcoat that score 77-35.
No official result in from Comrades this week, but I'm told
they lost their Bayley Q away game 3-2. This will not effect
their league position and they remain five points clear in
second place. Bayley Q seem destined to finish the season
mid-doors.
Little Dawley C were away to the Maddocks d team and recorded
a 3-2 win. The match was started by chery caswell who has
won nine of her thirteen games to date. A very impressive
debut into the league, and this week she got her team off
to a winning start by beating Gary walls 61-48.the match was
a to and fro event setting up a decing frame between Mick
wainwright for Maddocks and c hris kesterton for little dawley.chris
won the deciding frame 44-24.
Shifnal D, at home to the Newport British legion saw a little
more fight from the Newport team this week and managed a 3-2
win over the legion. Andy easthope started for Shifnal with
a 22 break beating Allan Davies 66-27. terry askew continued
in the same style knocking in a 25 in his frame to beat Richard
Goldie 82-27.newport side fought back to set up a decider
and Barrie easthope duly obliged for the Shifnal side when
he defeated Ian Stevenson 83-16.
Hadley A have done well in this season’s campaign,
although losing 4-1 to the Audco B side at the Newport club.
Richard benting for Hadley, potted exceptionally well to beat
graham grocott 66-39, as did Andy turnbull for Audco, against
Alan Francis.
