New kids on the block, Bayley F had a brilliant win this
week over Shifnal B at Shifnal. In the first game the almost
invincible Matt Davies came up against young Tom Maxfield
who recently won the England under thirteen championship.
Tom must have been over the moon taking the first frame, especially
after losing his tip mid way through the match, and then going
on to make a 27 break and beating Matt 67-37. Richie Hulme
also recorded a 33 break in his victory over N. Stallard in
the second frame and the Bayley side went on to win the match
4-1, a great start to the season for the Bayley team.
Broseley with home advantage this week retuned a 4-1 result
over the Anstice C team. Steve Camp was the only winner for
Anstice making a break of 35 in his victory over S. Thomas.
Minnesota B, away to Bayley E had an emphatic 5-0 win over
the Bayley side, and the highlight of the evening was a 126
clearance from Darren Weston, who has retuned to the snooker
league this season.
Little Dawley A have not maintained the impetus of last season’s
dizzy heights after losing a few key players this season,
and went down 3-2 at home to Shifnal A, although the match
went as close as it could with Simon Biddulph beating Ade
Henry in the match decider 61-60. Anstice D were at home to
Maddocks A and lost the match 3-2 with Phil Davies beating
S. Collins compiling a 33 break on the way.
Second Division
After a fine away win at Coddon B, Maddocks C showed that
they can be serious contenders for the League with a 5-0 win
over the Trench side. Danny Bedworth continued to play good
solid snooker against Karl Owen and put the first point on
the board for Maddocks by winning on the pink. Next up was
Steve Hassack taking on Ian Ferriday and it was Steve who
found form first and took a healthy lead. Ian tried hard to
get back into the match but the Iron man was not to be beaten
and went on to win the 2nd frame. Joe Oliver, without his
first choice cue, also managed to find some of his old form
to overcome Lloyd Giles and win the match for the home side.
Keith Mears had little fortune against Jimmy Hill in the
4th frame with the home man taking control with some good
play. For the second week running Maddocks looked for the
whitewash with Darren Wincott taking on away man Graham Arnold
playing his first game for the Trench men. It was Graham who
took the lead with a solid mid 20 break and some good safety
play. Darren managed to pull the game back only to watch Graham
take a good black for a re-spot. Darren won the vital toss
and managed to creep over the line with a long pot to ensure
all five points and put the Maddocks in a strong league position.
Bayley B at home to Coddon B returned a 3-2 score line over
their opponents as did their fellow club members, Bayley B,
also at home with a 3-2 win against Minnesota Fats A. Minnesota
Fats G at home to Shifnal F took an early lead with new signing
Wayne Jones Beating G Love 52-22. Wayne Weeks lost in a high
scoring game when J. Briscoe made a 22 point clearance and
that score line ended 72-51.
Coddon C were at home to relegated Audco and produced a fine
performance beating the Audco side 4-1 in an entertaining
match. Alan Turner was the only winner for Audco in his game
with Sef Tusel. Sef got out of two almost impossible snookers
that a pro would have been proud of only to lose on the blue
ball.
Third Division
Comrades started their campaign with the first match of the
season for them, and visited Maddocks D where they lost 3-2.
Unfortunately for Comrades no one had informed them of the
Minnesota C team pulling out of this division, and Comrades
were left waiting last week with sandwiches prepared for their
opponents. I do hope that the members of the Minnesota Fats
C team that decided to pull out, refrain from entering our
league, as it could have been possible to have had a full
third division instead of a bye!!
Newport Legion got back to winning ways with a 3-2 win over
Little Dawley B, at Newport. Hadley A were at home to Dawley
B and that match went to Dawley B 3-2. Anstice B look strong
in this division again and although away to Shifnal D came
away with four out of the five points on offer.
