TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 8th November 2006

My thanks to Jimmy Hill for compiling the snooker report while I was on holiday.

This week in the first division, Minnesota Fats B increased their lead by another point over the Broseley team when they were playing away to the Bayley A side. Minnesota took all five games starting with Sean Harris beating Arthur Burrows in the first frame 57-31. Next up, Bob Mason found Simon Yeats too strong and lost 49-27. The third frame saw Darren Weston in action against Spencer Rowley and Darren made a nice 65 break effectively securing that frame. So, three up to Minnesota, and their good form carried on when Keith Price also knocked in a 35 against M. Hodson to win that one 69-19. Steve Fletcher then stepped into the breech to try and avoid the whitewash, but he came up against the formidable Ian Duffy who went on to complete the rout beating Steve 81-12.

Broseley were also away to the Dawley A side and managed a 4-1 win. Sean Nolan took the first and only frame for Dawley beating John Banks 61-33. Mark Jones put up a good fight against Carl Walker, but Carl took this frame 59-42. The next two frames looked completely one sided as Mick Brezwyn won his game against Pete Nolan 71-1. Followed by Simon Thomas who had two breaks during his game with Grant Heighway, one of 52 and the second of 24, that scoreline 84-1. In a high scoring game the last match must have been a thriller with Graham Long just getting over the line playing Rick Bailey, 68-65.

With the Anstice D result missing Maddocks A move into third spot after their 4-1 win over Anstice C. Maddocks, playing with home advantage opened with Phil Davis who now seems to have got his act together. His 58-13 win over Chris Woods set the ball rolling and gave Maddocks their first point of the evening. Ian Skelton was too strong for Frank Williams and recorded a score of 73-5. Les Stirling for Maddocks then came up against Steve Camp, and it was Steve who came out the winner of this one, outplaying Les for a 66-31 victory.

Dave France played very little safety and got in with a nice 38 break to win his frame against Darren Wilkie 71-14 and taking the third point of the evening for Maddocks. Last up, Leigh France was well in front and after a twitch in the middle of the frame John Jones found he could have won had he just managed too get a snooker on the blue ball, but in the end it was Leigh who triumphed 77-45.

Shifnal B at home to Bayley E saw Matt Davies, the usual opening bat! compile a 64 break to get his side off to a good start and beating Andy O’Brien 64-24. Aaron Sparkes then lost to Steve Hoof on the black 49-47 to level the scores. Ali Jones for the Bayley side then took the lead as he beat Rob Wright 67-35. Dave Peplow then came back with a solid display to beat Dave France 55-25. The last frame saw (Mr. Mcgoo) Nigel Stallard playing to win the decider, and this he did with a 62-32 victory over John Squires.

Second Division

In second division, leaders Maddocks C maintain their good form and this report courtesy of Jim hill.

Leaders of Division Two, Maddocks C took the short journey to third placed Coddon C and returned with an emphatic 5-0 win. Daz Wincott was first up against home man Daniel Ballard and produced a fine display of potting to seal the frame including a 29 break. Josh Wall then tried hard to level the match against Danny Bedworth. In a close finish Danny potted a good pink and black to snatch the game for the Oakengates side. Joe Oliver continued his good form against Ray Whitehead and, after hitting his head on the light shade, made it 3-0. Matt Bothwell took on Steve Hassack in the forth frame and nearly inflicted the ironmans first defeat, but after Matt went in off the blue, Steve potted a good pink to win. Finally Jimmy Hill took on the young Mark Tusel and produced his best display this year to give Maddocks their third whitewash of the season and look good for a swift return to the top flight.

Audco A chasing Maddocks C could only return a 3-2 loss when they played Coddon B. In spite of winning the first two frames Coddon B came back strongly to take the last three frames. Mick Hughes and Andy Jones had a fine match with Mick losing on the black ball.
