A happy new year to one and all, and I hope everyone
enjoyed the Christmas break, and perhaps be able to enjoy
a few more breaks throughout the season. I would like to point
out that although my name was attributed to the last competition
report, I did not write that particular report. So, back to
the first games of this year.
First Division
The top of the table match between Broseley A and Minnesota
B ended in a 3-2 win for the Minnesota team who were away
to the Broseley side.
Shifnal B at home to the A side in local derby in which the
A side won 4-1 which didn't reflect how close the games were.
In game one Matt Davies took on S Biddulph, and yet again
Matt was in fine form compiling an 82 clearance to win the
frame. In the next, Aaron took on John, both players potting
well, with just the pink and black remaining, Aaron fluked
the pink, but John potted the black to make the scores all
level, with John pinching the frame on the re-spotted ball.
In the next, R. Evans took on N. Price, both players not finding
their rhythm early on, this also went down to the last colours,
with Neil potting a superb black to take the frame. In the
fourth L Knox carried on his good season form, potting well
and restricting Nigel to few chances. Lindsay compiled a couple
of small breaks to put his side 3-1 up, and in the last it
was another tight affair as Rob took on Andy Easthope, with
Andy needing to take the final colours to win, which he duly
did and gave his team a resounding 4-1 victory
Report courtesy of Nigel Stallard.
Maddocks A, in fourth place were away to Dawley A and took
the first four frames before Rick Bailey rescued a point for
his side by beating Dave France.
LDSA, at home to Anstice C have returned to form with a bang,
and recorded a 4-1 win over the Anstice C team to put them
one point behind Maddocks A.
At the bottom of the table the two Bayley teams met, Bayley
A and Bayley E, but not much headway was made for either team
with a 3-2 result in favour of the Bayley E side.
Second Division
Leaders of the Second Division, Maddocks C, played host to
Coddon B and were fortunate to win by the odd frame. Darren
Wincott started the match off against Mark “£10
bet” Wall. The game started cagey but with the blue
and pink downed by Mark, he let a golden chance go begging
and left up a black ball finish for Daz. 41-36. The match
was soon squared up with another close contest between Danny
“Chelsea for the league” Bedworth and “Jonah”
Jones. After a good start by the Coddon man, Danny found some
form but it was Jonah that potted a great pink to take the
frame. 41-60
Steve “the boy” Hassack was the star man for
the home team after a fantastic break of 56 (7 reds and blacks)
and a 26 clearance to beat Dave Lloyd. Steve produced his
best form, after a much needed rest, and never gave Dave a
look-in to win 101-17. Jimmy Hill then played Nick Pearce
and somehow managed to creep over the line taking the last
two colours and win the tie for Maddocks. 43-41. In an entertaining
finish to the evening, Joe Oliver took on Dave Holmes. Both
men potted some great balls and it was Dave who took the advantage
on the colours. Joe fought back well and only just missed
a tough black to win but it was Dave who took a good pot and
made the score line more respectable. 52-60 Coddon B must
have thought they deserved a win here but the £10 bet
(of which team finishes higher between Skippers) looks safe
for the Maddocks team.
Second placed, Audco A, were happy to see a 3-2 result go
their way when they visited the Bayley D side. Dave Dudley
got the home side off to a good start beating Andy Phelan,
before Mick Hughes for Audco beat Craig Whitehead in an entertaining
match, and just winning on a re-spotted black. Andy Kendrick
was too good for Dave Williams, and didn’t seem to affected
by the aftermath of the festive season as he potted really
well! Darren Rhodes should have won his match more easily
than he did, and it was only for the colours he missed that
kept Alan Turner in striking distance. At times Alan looked
more on strike, than striking! The last deciding game saw
Graham Darrall clinch the match defeating Brian Aberdeen.
Second Club Trench, were also at the Bayley club, and fared
better than the Audco side as they returned a 4-1 to close
the gap to just two points between Audco in second, and the
Second Club A in third.
Minnesota G shoot up to fourth place after a 5-0 win over
their A side. The victory wasn’t as straightforward
as looks however, with the first three games being very close.
Wayne Weeks made a 23 break in his game with Neil Pearson.
Coddon C, although losing at home 3-2 to the LDS G, side
are just one point behind their Coddon B side. Daniel Ballard
had a 31 break in his game against Tom Bell, with Matt Bothwell
also making a 27 when he beat the away captain G. Copson.
In the bottom half of the table, the Second Club B-side were
at home, but lost by the odd point to the Shifnal F side.
There are just three points separating the bottom four sides.
Third Division
Dawley B have reached the top of division three after a good
away win of 5-0 at the expense of the LDS C side, while the
previous leaders, Anstice B, took three points from their
match with Newport British Legion, at Newport, 3-2.
Shifnal D entertained the Maddocks B side, although the only
winner for the Shifnal side was Peter Wharton who beat Martin
Colley 42-20. This win gave the Maddocks side a lift into
third place in the table.
LDS B took four points from the Maddocks D side at Maddocks,
and this result gave them quite a boost as well, into fourth
place.
Hadley A claimed their second win of the season, defeating
the team they beat in their only other win of the season,
Bayley Q. The game started well for the Bayley team, with
Steve Weatherall playing much better after a bad few weeks
and convincingly beating Gareth Hughes to give Bayley Q the
first frame. But Hadley produced a strong comeback and won
the next three frames to secure the match, Kev Whitehead,
Richard Benting, and Allen Francis winning their games. Bayley
finished with Richard Tranter winning the last frame to make
the final score three-two in Hadley’s favour. Could
this be the turnaround for Hadley, let’s see if they
can start to climb away from the bottom now…
Audco B have all but fulfilled their outstanding fixtures,
in fact just two more games to get up to date. Although second
from bottom, Audco retuned a match score of 3-2 when they
beat the visiting Comrades side. The games in hand may reflect
their position in the future games to be played!
