Leaders Minnesota B were away to the Shifnal A side this
week, and will be well pleased with their performance against
a useful side. Darren Weston got Min B off to a good start
when he played Andy Easthope scoring 68 to Andy’s 36.
Keith Price added to the lead with a comfortable win over
Lindsay Knox. Simon Yeats made it 3-1 beating Neil Price in
a high scoring game with Shaun Harris following suit to make
it 4-1 beating John Fallows. Last player of the evening, Angus
Way made a 35 break as he defeated Ian Duffy 68-11.
Broseley A who were also away to the Bayley F team returned
a 5-0 score line, but will need a lot more scores like this,
and for Min B to drop points for them to make headway, now
that they are five points off the mark! The first two games
were close as Eddie Whitehead lost to Carl Walker 55-62, and
then Tom Maxfield going down 39-46 to Simon Thomas. Az Khan
then lost to Graeme Long before Richie Hulme suffered the
same result playing Mick Brezwyn. The final frame saw Paul
Maxfield lose to Simon Mcleoud 72-27 with Simon having a nice
45 break in the game.
Maddocks A with home advantage met the Little Dawley A side
who always seem to put a nice run together at sometime during
the season, and this match was no exception. Dave France opened
against Darren Pountney and was never at the races as Darren
won easily 49-17. Phil Davis going very well against Jesse
Lowe, and was 26 in front only to watch Jesse clear the table
to win on the black. Les Stirling also saw Lee Elcock clear
the table to win on the black ball, before Ian Skelton gained
a very easy win over Stuart Russell 74-9. Leigh France also
lost on the black, and this must have been a match to savour
for the Little Dawley A side, and what might have been for
Maddocks A.
Dawley A were at home to Anstice D and in a very closely
contested match, Anstice D were the victors by the odd point
in five. The frame between A. Nolan and S. Collins was the
deciding factor as this game went to the black and saw the
away man get the victory 59-50. Watching the Dawley results
at the moment, Dawley need their usually steadfast player
Rick bailey to get back to form quickly! I’m sure this
would give the Dawley side a confidence booster.
Shifnal B are keeping their head above water, and this weeks
result, although not entirely unexpected, saw them defeat
the Sir John Bayley A side 3-2. Shifnal went straight into
a 3-0 lead courtesy of A. Sparkes who beat C. M. Adams, followed
by Rob Wright who defeated A. Burrows. Next up was M. Hodson
who had no answer to Matt Davies break of 63. Spencer Rowley
pulled one back for the Bayley side, who were at home, when
he beat R. Evans who stands in as reserve from time to time.
The evergreen Steve Fletcher got the second point for Bayley
against Mr. McGoo, better known as Nigel Stallard.
Anstice C, still in the quagmire of the bottom four, made
little headway, although beating fellow strugglers Bayley
E at the Anstice. This was a 3-2 result to the Anstice with
Chris Woods winning the deciding frame against J. Squire 58-37
to win the match for Anstice.
Second Division
Shifnal F took on leaders Maddocks C and very nearly inflicted
their first away defeat of the season. Simon Dyal started
the fixture for the home team against Danny Bedworth. In a
scrappy frame it was Simon that took the chances while not
leaving much for Danny and Simon went on to take the first,
61-31. Next up was Dave Chapman who played a solid game against
away skipper Graham Hoof. Graham could not find his form and
watched the Shifnal man put his team 2 up, 55-13. John Briscoe
started his match in great form against “most wins”
leader Steve Hassack and took a healthy lead onto the colours.
With Steve going in-off the green, John needed to hold his
nerve but missed green to centre that would have taken the
frame and match. The Ironman dug deep and managed to win on
a doubled black, 61-53.
Home captain Chris Painter came up against Jimmy Hill for
the second time this season and in a dour frame Jim took advantage
of the run of the balls and won on the pink to take the match
into a decider, 46-29. Joe Oliver, who has been finding his
best form lately, took on home man Fred Harper and soon took
a lead. Joe held the difference of 20 onto the colours and
with a great pot on the brown, Maddocks “Anchor”
man took the match by the odd frame, 27-52.
Report courtesy of Jim Hill.
Audco A still in second place by one point, but are only there
virtue of other teams not taking advantage of Audco's poor
showing of late. Audcos only win this week came virtue of
reserve, A. Heathcote, although two of the games were decided
on the pink and one on the black.
Coddon B were away to Minnesota Fats A and won that match
3-2 to keep well on the heels of Audco.
Second Club A were at home to Bayley D and the Trench club
suffered their second 5-0 defeat in a row. Once again some
close games, but none of them went to the Trench side. Dave
Dudley got the better of Ian Ferriday on the black, with Mark
Beddall emulating Dave, his teammate, another black ball game!
Brian Aberdeen won his frame against G. Arnold more convincingly,
45-18. Next frame saw L. Watson losing to Darren Rhodes 43-35
and in the last Dave Williams of Bayley beat K. Owen 59-45.
Coddon C are now on level points with the Second club and
they put together a 3-2 win for themselves when they beat
the Second Club B side at the Coddon Club. This match went
to a decider with Fraser McKinnon beating Neil Robinson on
the black.
Bayley B who were away to Little Dawley G gave themselves
a huge boost by bringing back all five points from this encounter.
Kev West started with an emphatic win over I. Fleming, 75-2,
but the next frame was much closer with Graham Copson losing
on the black to Craig Baugh.. Dan Oliver made it 3-0 beating
G. Wiley with Richard Bedall following suit and adding the
fourth point getting the better of R. Levenue. The last frame
secured the five points when Dick Oliver overcame T. Bell
53-28
Third Division
Dawley B met closest rivals Anstice B at the Madeley club
this week with the result coming down in Anstices favour.
Paul Harper had a 29 break in the opening game when he beat
Stew Wimbush 75-10. The Madeley side replied with Noel Stones
levelling the score beating Barry Roden. The match then swung
back to Dawley when Ian Ward with a 26 break made it 2-1 against
John Darrock. More breaks in the next frame as Mick Cahill
made a 27 and a 30 with a score of 68 and just 5 for Kev Jones.
Anstice took the last frame courtesy of Billy Watson who won
comfortably in his game with Alex Jones.
Not a very comprehensive report from Mr. Atkinson this week
except to say that his team, Hadley, were rubbish, or words
to that effect. However, take nothing from the Maddocks B
side who put together a fine 5-0 win to go to third spot in
the division. Looking at the scores that all the Maddocks
players rattled up, it’s a pity they weren’t batting
for England a few weeks ago!
Little Dawley B at home in a local derby match, gained a
3-2 win over their LDS C team with the match swinging both
ways until Luke Woods won the decider beating G. Walls 52-38
to clinch the match for Little Dawley B.
Mid table Bayley Q entertained the Newport Legion side and
returned a 3-2 win for themselves. Steve Weatherall got the
Bayley side off to a win beating John Yapp with Allan Davies
replying for Newport in a high scoring game with Chris Bates,
and coming out of that with a score of 66 to Allan, and 56
to Chris. Rob Cook restored the lead playing Keith Gardener
before Chris Fletcher secured the match for Bayley Q in his
game with Richard Goldie. Nigel Simpson took the second point
for Newport when he got the better of Richard Tranter 66-48.
Comrades were at home to Shifnal D and the Shifnal side came
away with three out of the five points on offer leaving both
clubs around mid division.
Audco B who are second from bottom and a full ten points
in front of Hadley lost their home match 3-2 to the Maddocks
D side. The home side Audco, lost the first frame when Ken
Davies beat Chris Hughes. Alex Turnbull pulled a frame back
against R. Lowe, but then teammate G. Groucott for Audco,
lost the next frame to I. Courtney. Andy Yates made it two
each before P. Smith lost the final game to Mike Wainwright
Junior.
