Dawley met Maddocks B this week, where both teams were
in the running for honours. Dawley B, at home, saw Paul Harper
get them off to a good start by beating Wally Harper 56-15.
Ian Ward made it two with Les Hicks on the end of that defeat.
Martin Colley for Maddocks then pulled a frame back beating
Kev Jones.Gentleman, Doug Morrey, than got the second of the
evening for Maddocks, getting the better of Barry Roden. The
deciding frame between John Archer and Alex Jones saw Alex
make a nice 29 break, and take the last frame for the Dawley
side.
Antice B were away to LDS C and came back with three of the
five points on offer, which keeps the Anstice side still in
touch, and just three points behind the leaders. Some very
close games in this match, as John Darrock for Anstice, returned
a score line of 58-46 against K. Kesterton, with John Richards
for LDS C winning his game easily. Noel Stones made it 2-1
for Anstice, just beating Andy Garbett 48-44. C.Niblett then
beat George Hammond to set up the decider between G. Walls
and Billy Watson. Billy Watson won the frame 61-40 to maintain
the Anstice B side push for promotion.
Comrades A are one of three teams locked with the same amount
of points after this weeks matches, but Comrades, away to
Newport B fought the Newport side all the way to end up playing
yet another deciding frame. John Yapp took the last game for
Newport to give the home side victory. Richard Goldie, still
in good form made a twenty break in the opening frame as he
beat M Wordsell.
Maddocks D played visitors Bayley Q this week with the Bayley
Q side losing out 4-1. Ken Davies opened the scoring for Maddocks
beating Steve Weatherall 69-25, but after this game all the
other frames were very much in the balance for either side.
Chris Durham levelled the match 50-48 playing Roy Love. Chris
had been ahead by 33 points earlier in the frame and it was
potting a long black that meant he was able to scrape a frame
he looked like losing. This was followed by Ian Courtney getting
the better of Chris Fletcher 59-50. The majority of the game
was something the players would probably rather forget, but
the last four balls were all excellent pots from Ian. The
next two games made it 4-1 for Maddocks, with Tony O’Neil
coming from 20 behind on the colours to beat Richard Tranter
44-37, and Mick Wainwright beating Chris Bates 49-34. As I
said, a very close match indeed.
Shifnal D, although with home advantage, suffered a 4-1 defeat
at the hands of the LDS B side. Phil Cottey took the first
frame from Terrie Askew, 75-33, with Colin Gittus adding the
second for the little Dawley side by beating Sanjay Chauhan,
62-21. The only point for Shifnal came in the next game with
an emphatic score of 59 points for Peter Wharton and just
one point for Pete Clarke. Luke Woods and Tom Wotherspoon,
both with easy wins took the last two games to complete the
rout.
Last report this week comes courtesy of Iain Atkinson of the
Hadley A side.
Good Morning gents, match report for Weds 24th Jan 2007.....................we
got beat 3-2 by Audco B! Roy Francis beat Mr.Gee (Graham Grocott)
in a very close game, which went on & on & on, well
into the night! Roy eventually winning 62-54 even with his
new PINK chalk & 3piece cue! The 2nd match threw together
the 2 Hughes’s, Gareth & Chris, Gareth let the Hadley
side down BIG STYLE (by drinking coke all night), however
he also lost the match 12-51 in favour of the Audco boys.
The next game was between two of the "heavyweights"
of the division, Kev Whitehead & Alex Turnbull, Kev winning
the frame 63-26, Kev obviously was overjoyed at winning yet
another frame, celebrating well into the early hours of the
morning, cus nobodies seen him since!
The penultimate frame was between Al Francis & Andy Yates,
the rest of the Hadley boys thought Al obviously threw the
game in return for a lift home in Andy's cab, However Andy
did play well defeating his "fare" 51-18. With the
match perfectly balanced on a knife-edge Iain Atkinson went
on against Pete Smith & proceeded to constantly miss the
f'kin barn door with his proverbial banjo! Losing the game
quite easily 13-72 handing the game to Audco, & thus losing
our last remaining chance of winning the league! Shame!!
Second Division
Maddocks C maintained their push for promotion with a fine
4-1 win at home against the local men from Minnesota Fats
A. Danny Bedworth started the balls rolling and produced some
great long pots to beat Kirk Stevenson. 53-20. Darren Wincott
played well and soon made it 2-0 against an unlucky Mick Pearson
who did have a chance to win it on the colours. 55-46. Next
up was Steve Hassack against Mick Egan. Steve missed a few
early chances but eventually found some form to take a healthy
lead. Mick tried hard to save the match but it was the Ironman
that got over the line and take the match for Maddocks. 56-29.
Jimmy Hill, fresh from winning the 2nd Division individuals,
came up against Phil Bufton, and it was the Minnie man that
played a great frame of safety whilst hardly missing a pot
to stop the chance of a whitewash. 35-61. The final match
of the night was between Home man Joe Oliver and Neil Pearson.
Neil took an early lead before Joe started to find his range
and with it a good advantage on the colours. With a great
pot on the green, Joe managed to give Maddocks C the 4th point.
Audco A, still chasing the Maddocks men, lost the three opening
frames when they visited Second Club B. Bob Lane for the home
side, beat reserve Richard Jaggs who was making only his second
appearance of the season. Paul Crooks took the next frame
from Alan Turner with good length of the table potting before
Tom Firmstone made it three by out potting Mick Hughes. In
the fourth frame Andy Kendrick stopped the rot for the Audco
side by pulling a game back when he defeated Dave Welsh 49-13.
Captain, Graham Darrall then got the second and final point
of the evening in a good game with Neil Robinson.
In spite of the Second Club B sides win, it did no favours
for their A side, as they went the short journey to the Coddon
club and failed to take a single point from the encounter
with the Coddon B side. Mark Wall took the first frame from
Ian Ferriday in a close frame, 50-41, with A Jones adding
the second over L. Giles. Another close game saw D. Lloyd
beat G. Arnold 53-43, followed by a good display of snooker
from D. Holmes, who recorded a 37 break in his victory over
K. Mears. N. Pearce made it a clean sweep for the Coddon B
side beating K. Owen 55-20.
Minnesota G remain in fifth place after their match with
LDS G. The home side Min G saw their captain Wayne Weeks open
the batting, and win the first frame, with the LDS G side
taking the next courtesy of R. Levenue who beat Tony Marsh.
Craig Davies restored the lead for Min G beating G. Copson,
and then James Price secured the match defeating G. Wiley
before I. Fleming took the last point for the LDS G side.
Bayley D, at home to the Coddon C side, could only take two
points from the fixture, and cannot seem to make much headway
up the table recently. Dave Dudley got the Bayley side off
to a good start beating the useful Josh Wall, but then Coddon
hit back with Matt Bothwell levelling matters in the second
game playing Jim Lewis. Daniel Ballard added another to Coddons
account beating Mark Bedall before Darren Rhodes took the
match to a decider by beating Ray Whitehead. Frasier McKinnon
proved too strong for Brian Aberdeen and took the match for
the Coddon side.
Bayley B fared slightly better in their home match against
the Shifnal F side, and took the first two frames when Kev
West beat Chris Painter in a high scoring game 65-51, and
Craig Baugh beating Phil Edwards 65-25. Fred Harper pulled
one back for Shifnal defeating Dan Oliver, and then Dave Chapman
for the Shifnal side levelled the match to pave the way for
another deciding match.Dick Oliver won the last game comfortably
51-11 when he played John Briscoe.
First Division
Leaders Minnesota B seem to be on course for the title with
a 4-1 win over the Anstice C team at Minnesota. Keith Price
made a 53 break in his win over Darren Wilkie and then Shaun
Harris had a 38 break whilst defeating Danny Weaver. Ian Duffy
suffered a rare defeat when Steve Camp overcame him with a
score line of 86-52, but that was the only blip in the match
as Darren Weston put min B back on track also recording a
42 break during hid game with John Jones. Simon Yeats made
it 4-1 beating C. Woods.
Broseley A managed a 3-2 win in a tough match against the
Shifnal A side. Broseley who were the home side, saw Graeme
Long lose on the black to John Fallows before Mick Brezwyn
returned a good win over Neil Price 57-1. Angus way had a
comfortable victory over Carl Walker 72-17, as did Si Thomas
for the Broseley side, when he played Lindsay Knox. The last
game must have been very entertaining as Andy Easthope put
together a 42 break and still lost the frame to John Banks
77-67.
LDS A send the Bayley F side down a notch or two in the table
as they inflicted a 4-1 defeat over the Bayley side at Little
Dawley. Little Dawley raced into a 3-0 lead courtesy of Tim
Hicks, Jesse Lowe and S. Russell, before stalwart Ritchie
Hulme got the only point of the evening for the Bayley F side
defeating Lee Elcock. B. Mitchell made it the 4-1 result as
he beat Paul Maxfield in the last frame of the match.
Shifnal B were at home to Maddocks A, and although Matt Davies
took the first frame with a 46 break for the home side defeating
Ian Eldridge, Maddocks were determined to give nothing away.
Maddocks took the next four frames with only Dave Peplow getting
close to maybe a second point, and that was against Ian Skelton,
and the score line, 64-55.
Finally Anstice D at home to the Bayley A side also had a
4-1 win putting the Bayley A side back in the relegation scrap.
The Anstice team saw the return of Steve Nichols to the Bayley
A side and it turned out that Steve would be the only winner
on the night for the Bayley side, and in fact that was in
the opening frame when Steve got the better of L. Badhan.
After that it was all downhill for the Bayley side with S.
Rowley losing out to N. Wallccroft 62-25. A Elliot then beat
Bob Mason 54-21 followed by M. Musgrave 64-7 defeat of M.
Hudson. The final frame was in much the same vein with S.
Collins notching up a 55-5 win over Chris Morgan-Adams.
