Following their resounding win last week against Bayley
Q, Hadley came down to earth with a bump against division
3 high flyers Dawley B. The match started with a closely fought
game between Roy Francis & Kev Jones, despite Roy playing
with an innovative three piece cue ! He produced some sparkling
snooker but unfortunately lost 63-44. The next game involved
Tugboat & Ian Ward, in another closely fought game with
Ian coming out on top 49-39. Kev Whitehead then restored some
sense of justice with a resounding 69-30 victory over Colin
Thorpe producing some majestic snooker play along the way.
The next game threw together two of the leagues best known
artists in the 3rd division, Al Francis & Barry Roden,
Al (unusually) kept his calm throughout, what was a very tense
battle, with Barry edging it 54-45, another very close game,
Al accepted defeat gracefully. With the match already lost,
"Invincible" Iain Atkinson was "vinced"
for the 10th time this season ! by Alex Jones 56-44 despite
a heroic comeback claiming brown/blue & pink but completely
missing a simple black ball pot into the middle bag, 4-1 overall
result.
Anstice B faltered a little this week, as they could only
get two points in their home match with Shifnal D. Audco B
are returning better results of late, and managed a 3-2 win
when they visited the Bayley Q side. Little Dawley B just
got the better of the Newport British Legion, with the home
side, Little Dawley B gaining a 3-2 win over the legion. Richard
Goldie was an easy winner for the legion after his blip last
week when he lost his first game for some while.
Maddocks B found some good form this week and had a comfortable
win against Little Dawley C. Maddocks B were entertaining
and the Little Dawley side made more of a match than it looks
by the end result, with some close games during the match.
Comrades A, at home just got the winning post 3-2 when they
played Maddocks D.
First Division
Minnesota B, at home, lengthened their lead this week as
they beat the Bayley E side 5-0, with Shaun Harris having
breaks of 47 and 35. Team mate Paul Smith also recorded a
39 break in his frame. 2nd placed Broseley A, who were away
from home to Anstice C, took four points from that match with
Simon Thomas, the Broseley man making a 35 break during his
frame.
Shifnal A stopped Little Dawley A’s good run, with
Shifnal winning 4-1. A rare appearance from Darren Pountney,
whose job keeps him from the game from time to time, was the
only winner for the Little Dawley side.
Maddocks A, at home to the Anstice D side, found themselves
on the end of a 3-2 defeat with one of the winning frames
producing a 47 break, that, from Phil Davies of Maddocks A.
Tom Maxfield got the Bayley F side off to a good start when
they visited the Anstice D side. Tom had a 40 break on the
way to leading his side to a 3-2 victory.
Second Division
The match between 3rd placed 2nd Club A and leaders Maddocks
C featured the top three players in the league “most
wins” and all came away with their records intact. Ian
Ferriday took on away skipper Graham Hoof, who had been hit
by the flu, and it was the home man that did enough to take
the first frame.55-25. Graham Arnold stepped up to try and
defeat Steve Hassack in the next battle but, in a tactical
frame, the Ironman levelled the fixture with a good clearance.52-80.
Joe Oliver then played his best frame of the season against
Gentleman Keith Mears. Joe opened up with a fantastic 44 break
with only his second visit to the table and never looked back
as he went on to win comfortably, 1-92.
Karl Owens then attempted to take the match into a decider
against Jimmy Hill but it was the bald man that had the run
of the cloth and took the tie for Maddocks 25-62. With no
pressure for away man Darren Wincott, things looked good for
a four-one result but Lloyd Giles had other ideas and played
a solid frame of snooker to make the score line more respectable,
58-37. Both teams should be happy with the result and could
be seeing each other next year in the top flight.
Audco reversed their result with Coddon C and having a 4-1
win at home. Graham Darrall made a nice 36 in the opening
frame. Mick Hughes cleared from brown to black to win his
game, with Audcos only loser, Andy Phelan losing on the black.
Coddon B nearly made a 5-0 win at home to the Bayley D side,
but for Dave Dudley winning the first frame for Bayley D on
the black. Coddon will be well pleased with this result.
Bayley B suffered the same result, although they were away
to Minnesota A. Kevin West was the only winner for the Bayley
B side although two of the other frames went to the final
black.
Shifnal F used their home advantage to the full, beating
Minnesota Fats G 4-1. A couple of close games in this match
too, except for Chris Painter who made a 20 break and won
his match in comfortable style.
Apart from the cards not arriving on time, it would certainly
assist me if teams could make the effort to write which division
they are in, the date and what their team name is, I do know
them all, but it makes the job a little quicker if the info
is written down, thanking you in anticipation.
