My report this week starts with Maddocks A at home to Minnesota
Fats B where Maddocks lost 5-0 to the Minnesota side. Phil
Davis started the match and although having chances, he missed
them whereas his opponent, Darren Weston didn’t. Next
frame saw Shawn Harris get the better of Ian Skelton, and
then came a comprehensive win for the Minnesota man, Keith
Price, notching up 71 points to Leigh France’s 11. Les
Stirling gave Ian Duffy a good game but was edged out 69-53.
Finally, Dave France was beaten by Simon Yeats to make it
a clean sweep for the Minnesota side.
Broseley A were away to the Sir John Bayley A side, and they
gained a 4-1 win with Spencer Rowley being the only winner
for the Bayley side. Highlight of the evening was a 72 break
from Mick Brezwyn whilst he was playing S. McLeod.
Shifnal A also compiled a 5-0 win over the Bayley E side
with John Fallows having a 34 break against M. Francis, that
score line 69-34. Dave France from the Bayley E side also
knocked in a 27 but it wasn’t enough to overcome Lindsay
Knox.
In the local derby between Dawley A and Little Dawley A the
opening frame saw M. Jones lose to Lee Elcock on the black,
with Jesse Lowe putting LDS A. two up when he played Rick
Bailey. B. Mitchell made it 3-0 after beating P. Nolan before
S. Nolan pulled one back, getting the better of C. Hales.
Grant Heighway then recovered another point on his way to
victory over S. Russell.
Second Division
Third placed Audco A took on leaders Maddocks C and inflicted
their first away defeat of the season by four frames to one.
The game kicked off with Andy Phelan playing Danny “rather
be watching Chelsea” Bedworth. The game started with
Danny taking control but Andy put in a good break to fight
back and leave the contest on the black. The away man held
his nerve and cut the ball into the middle to win. 41-48.
Next up was a mouth-watering game between Andy “Jenny”
Kendrick and Steve “the Boro’” Hassack.
Andy took the advantage but Steve fought back well with a
good break. All went to the pink and, after Steve missed the
object ball, Andy took the pot in the middle to win. 53-34.
Graham Darrell then played a great entertaining frame with
Jimmy Hill, with Graham playing a solid safety game and Jim
potting from the lampshade. All went to the black and an unfortunate
miscue from the Ironman left Graham with the easy task of
putting his team in front by a solitary point. 55-54.
Mike Hughes took on away skipper Graham Hoof and went for
his shots with not leaving much for his opponent. Despite
Graham playing one of his best performances, it was not enough
and Mike took the match for Audco. 65-32. The final frame
was between Alan “retiring” Turner and Joe “retiring”
Oliver. The silver fox played some great snooker (with a little
bit of luck) and showed his best form to make the outcome
4-1. 61-37. The result of this match has given Audco a great
chance of Promotion with Maddocks looking over their shoulders.
What a match in store next week with Audco taking on Coddon
B, both pushing for that.
Report courtesy of Jim Hill.
After Audco’s result, the second place in division two
is tied between Audco and Coddon B who played away to LDS
G. A couple of very close games in this match with the Coddon
team taking the first three points. In one of those frames
Andy Jones made breaks of 30 and 31 has he beat Rob Whithington,
but LDS G then took the last two frames with both games appearing
to be on the black according to the scores. G. Wiley beat
Steve Downs 56-50 followed by a win for T. Bell over Dave
Holmes, 54-45.
Minnesota G recorded a fine 5-0 win when they were away to
the Second Club B side. Nick Turner, first up, won comfortably,
54-3, playing G. Firmstone, then James Price followed suit
adding another point beating Paul Crooks. Tony Marsh wasn’t
to be outdone and duly took the third frame from Toby Welsh.
Neil Robinson for the Trench side couldn’t’ stop
the Minnesota impetus, and Craig Davies made it 4-0. The final
frame saw Aaron O’Donnell beating D. Welsh to make it
the full five for Min G.
Second Club A returned to form this week and will be well
pleased with their 4-1 win after visiting the Shifnal F side.
Second club took the first two frames courtesy of L. Giles
and K. Owen, before John Briscoe gained the first point of
the evening for Shifnal with a win over Ian Ferriday. In a
close game K. Mears just got the better of Fred Harper 58-50
before G. Arnold took the last game for Second Club A with
victory over Chris Painter.
Coddon C and Bayley B, in mid-table, were playing at the
Coddon club, and this match went to the wire with Daniel Ballard
from Coddon winning the deciding frame against V. McLeod 50-32
to give the Coddon side a 3-2 win.
Third Division
Dawley B returned a good result when they made the trip
to play Comrades A. Comrades started well enough, just taking
the first frame when S. Jones beat Colin Thorpe 47-38, but
that was the only frame they took for the rest of the evening
as the Dawley side showed why they are top of the division.
Kev Jones for Dawley opened the Dawley sides account with
a win over S. Preece 51-34, followed by Ian Ward in a tight
game with C. Bristow, where Ian got the to the winning post
54-45. Barry Roden had a comfortable win over M. Jones 44-13,
with Alex Jones making it four to Dawley when he beat C. Crook.
It just gets better & better, Hadley A went to Anstice
B, who are 2nd in the league, with, what we thought was a
severely depleted squad, missing 3 of our regular players
& having to sign a last minute replacement to even make
a team up! However we started brilliantly, with first dependable
Kev Whitehead beating Johnny Darrock 64-37 with some majestic
snooker. This was followed by the new "lad" Ken
Booty, who we picked up in the pub earlier, not knowing whether
he could play or not! He was really chucked in at the deep
end when we found out he was to play Noel Stones! However
despite his affliction of having had too many curries (a clear
case of Booty & the Beef!!!) he proceeded to play some
brilliant snooker to inflict Noel’s first defeat of
the season, 69-26, however in all fairness to Noel he did
miss some easy shots (by his own high standards). The 3rd
frame threw together young Danny Francis (playing only his
2nd game this season) & Mick Cahill, the writing was on
the wall when Mick went into a 32-point lead, only for Danny
to respond brilliantly by taking a few reds & all the
colours to take the game 47-44, a superb performance!
Unfortunately it went downhill from there on, but with the
match sewn up, there was little pressure on the 2 remaining
players, Tugboat losing in a very high scoring game (8-37!)
against Steve Wimbush. The final frame saw Ian Atkinson take
on Billy Watson, in a controversial match, with both players
being subjected to a torrent of abuse, heckled, barracked
& generally having the p**s taken out of them, they proceeded
to play some c**p snooker with Billy coming out on top 39-33.
All had a cracking night & thanks go to the Anstice lads
for their hospitality, especially the food, which was gratefully
received by Tugboat who obviously hadn't eaten since August!
Onwards & upwards then for the Hadley team, who are now
eyeing up a league & cup double!
Maddocks D visited the Newport British legion and came away
with a 4-1 win after K. Davies lost to John Yapp in the opening
frame 53-46. That was as close as it got for the Newport side
as Maddocks polished off the next four frames.
Bayley Q were at home to LDS C, and even though Rob Cook
and Steve Weatherall won the first two games for the Bayley
side, they then saw the LDS C side win the next three games.
G. Walls had a 25 clearance in his frame to beat Chris Fletcher,
and Chris Durham lost the fourth frame after completely missing
the pink with only two balls left and a thirteen point lead!
Last on for the Bayley team was Richard Tranter, who in his
own words, played possibly his worst game ever.
