Broseley A took on 2nd Division leaders Maddocks C at home
and had to forfeit a 75 point handicap. Carl Walker started
the match off against Steve Hassack but it was the Oakengates
man that played some great snooker. He cleared from the blue
ball to increase the handicap to 112 points, 26-63. Next up
for the current Champions was in form Graham Long against
Darren Wincott and it was Daz who took control with some excellent
potting and safety to increase the handicap even further,
40-70. Graham Hoof then tried to keep young Simon McLeod at
bay but the Broseley man played superbly to keep his team
in the match 75-25.
With the difference 92 in favour of the Ironmen, Jimmy Hill
took on Mick Brezwyn and played, unnaturally, with safety
in mind. With the black cushioned it was always a tough ask
for Mick and Jim managed to hold on for a few precious points
43-59. Finally the match was played out with John Banks needing
a minor miracle to beat Joe Oliver by 108 but he played his
heart out and at one point had the spectators excited but
Joe played well and cleared from the Green to take the match
for Maddocks, 72-52, which gave them their best cup win for
many a year.

In the match between Little Dawley C and 2nd Club Trench A,
it was the home side who progressed through to the next round.
In the 1st match, C Niblett took on the league’s Vice
Chairman Ian Ferriday, with both players potting well throughout
the frame, but it was Chris who took the remaining balls to
extend his sides lead on the handicap. In the second frame,
S Hamilton played G Arnold, this time it was the away player
who took the initiative, potting and playing good shots throughout,
to pull back 29 points on the handicap.
The third frame was a high scoring affair for both players,
but it was G Walls for the home side who eventually overcame
L Giles by 75 to 50. In the fourth frame, M Rhodes took on
J Williams, and Mick played superbly throughout the frame,
playing good safety shots and capitalising when his opponent
let him in, to put his side in a very good position going
into the last, winning 85 to 22. This left A Garbett with
a 100 plus lead going into the final frame, and even a valiant
fight back from Karl wasn’t enough, he took the frame
58pts to 37pts, but that wasn’t enough and LDS C, go
into the hat for the next round.
In the consolation cup Hadley A took on the Division 1 side
Anstice C, who had to concede 125 on the handicap, and things
didn’t start well for the Anstice team with Kev Whitehead
putting in a determined effort to beat Darren Wilkie 49-47.
The next two frames saw the away team put in some solid performances,
first of all Anstice captain Frank Williams beat Alan Francis
61-22 and in frame three Steve camp saw off Roy Francis 61-26,
leaving the division 1 team some 53 points behind with 2 frames
to play. Iain Atkinson then put in a captains performance
for the Hadley team, playing some neat safety and potting
to put in a good win over Chris Woods, putting his side 60
up with 1 frame to play, and Tugboat for the home side held
his nerve over Dan Coleing to win his frame 55-39 and put
the Hadley boys through to the third round.
The other result in this competition saw Audco B from division
3 knockout Minnesota Fats G, no match card has been received
for this, so unable to do a report, but congratulations to
Audco B on their first season back in the Telford league.
